Seriously, it is easier to fit a shield suit with armor modules than actual shield modules. P.S. they cost a lot more CPU too. You should think of it like this. Armour was never meant to have native reps. A shield Extender provides X Shield but unlike armour would regenerate without the requirements of a module those hit points many times over in the course of a battle at a naturally high rate. And one of the reasons why suits were given small armor reps in the first place was to discourage shield users from being forced to equip an armor rep module. Shield users are the ones that wanted it the most. I was honestly content with only Gallente having that feature but whateves, stay away from our women armor modules.
Serious question, have you actually used shield tanked suits? You said earlier that you can't just stack ferroscales and be good... a Caldari assault with extenders stacked is a pretty **** fit bro... 30 regen a second sounds great and all but 0 damage from a forge gun splash effect will stop that regen, let alone any stray bullet. A Caldari assault that is brick tanked with nothing but extenders in the high will be hiding in corners for most of the engagements and easily be flanked. Before I respecced Minmitar I used to use Gallente, Minmitar, and Caldari suits at adv level and by far it was more effective to run a Gallente armor rep skirmisher with equivalent e/hp as my Caldari skirmisher. The Gallente skirmisher had 20 shield regen and 16 armor rep while the Caldari Skirmisher had 40 shield regen and 6 armor repair. I could effectively hold off targets and take a ton of punishment to then repair as long as I was able to keep players at range. I had two choices on the Caldari skirmisher... wait until I was fully recharged which made me extremely vulnerable to flanking or I could peak out and risk my shields being reset until they did flank me.
I just wish players who have never really explored both styles would refrain from claiming to understand both sides. |

People that know how to set up a shield suit are not always the people that know how to play with them
I actually edited my post to include that question lol, and still there's no reason not to armor tank at long ranges. Let me ask you a question... How often is a Rail Rifle outside of Laser Rifle range? Also, as I did point out at any range where a gun registers a hit will your shields reset which makes traversing the map in shield tanked Caldari suits pretty difficult. Their regen doesn't really matter unless you can rely on your team to carry you when your waiting around. This can be done by armor tanks too though. With the added benefit that they can help in a fight while repairing. |

Agreed. Laser rifles are super rare though, so im not calculating those as a thread. The shield delay reset after 1 or even 0 damage from splash or super long range **** me off too. It should have a damage threshold
I do agree at range under certain circumstances Shield tanking is tolerable, but given the layout of most objectives it's not very useful, and the bigger issue to me is that Armor tanks can stay at range as well, and perform much better in CQC. Movement, speed aside. |

Because I've been here since the beginning when they let EVE players have access. I shield tanked once but that was ages ago, that doesn't mean that I forgot how to properly fit a shield tanked suit and I have a Caldari alt that does just fine and he only has 9 mil SP. Advanced tier stuff but damn it's impressive. So, long story short. I've been here longer, I play EVE, I've played the suits and have common sense. So I will continue to correct shield tankers when they are wrong because I have a little bit more understanding about shield tanking than some casual.
You haven't played them in ages? Explain how that makes you an expert? Shield tanking isn't how it was back when I started and I haven't even been here since beta only uprising. Define just fine on your Caldari alt? Do you solo play the alt and do you go for the objective? Because I found in solo play I can solo hold objectives much better as an armor tank Gallente assault then I ever could as a Caldari. Also, mentioning EvE just makes you sound under confident about your position as you should know that has no bearing on this game whatsoever. You are just trying to sound important because you have played an older CCP game that is from a completely different genre.
I mention solo play because literally any build is effective if you have a competent squad backing you that is playing towards the current meta.
I'm good at checkers!!! Bet i'll be good at axis and allies!! That's what you sound like right now. |
