Depends entirely on what you want to do with it. Min Assault is a quick bastard and the magazine size buff is awesome.
Minmmando is sweet with the +10% damage to swarm launchers and the reload speed. I personally love running AV and AP at the same time so I go with the Commando, but it really comes down to your playstyle and what you want to do with it.

Min Mando is the best area denial in the game.
Shield and Regen tank it, slap on a boundless assault MD and Proto CR and sit on some hives.
People out of cover get the CR. There is no escape from the Assault MD
I run it almost as much as my Min Assault and Scout.

Gotta be a dmg stacked Minmando. You can take on Sentinels in CQC And consider that on a Minmando, you can just equip two CR's, effectively doubling the clip. Kinda makes the Min Assaults bonus seem lacklustre. That, and you'll be reloading lightning fast. Minmando really shines as AV though. I'd say Minmando when you need a hammer, Assault when you need manuverability? IDK I just prefer Minmando. At least the Minmando has a place in PC!

Both. Min assault is amazingly good. MinMando is the best commando. Go wreck house. |

Minmando is a heavy hitter with the mass driver/swarms + CR combo. However, you're the most effective while camping high ground.
Min assault is just quick as ****, hella eHP and is a strafing machine. Min assault is really good, I specced out of the commando to get it.

If you need to kill vehicles or have the high ground go minmando.
Everything else minassault.
However, I still think Amarr Assault is better than Min assault but I still use them both.

Minassault is IMO almost as good as an AV platform as the Commando, because that 25% clip bonus applies to SMG as well, so you can carry a Breach and a Swarm and be almost as good as a MInmando, but faster and with higher tank capability(and nades)
Personally, i only use my Commando(level 5) when i'm just THAT in need of a vehicle kill or a PC tier suit. My minassault(Lv3) is very effective, even against the dreaded slayerscout. My main uses for it is it's supreme versatility in tanking, either damage mods and a shield energizer with 3 plates and a repper, or 2 reactives, a ferro and a shield regulator with 2 extenders, a energizer and a damage mod.
Alternatively, I have my 2 regulator, kincat and damp with 3 extenders and a energizer fitting for "those moments"
Even further alternatively, I have my 3 damage mod fit with 1 recharger, a repper and 3 plates, or 4 reactives, or....*continues rambling like Bubba in Forest Gump*
*Ahem* They're both amazing suits IMO. The commando makes a great pub fit, due to how I can fit it for specific maps more reasonably(shotgun/CR, MD/CR, MD/SG, Swarm/CR etc.) and still have decent base HP to not absolutely need a tank mod on there.

The Min Assault is incredibly good at most situations, even against sone to most scouts. It can speed tank just as well and out strafe everybody except scouts. I can't even tell you how many times I've out strafed people, even scouts, and beat them. Really you have a nearly wide array of fits to the Min assault because of the 4/4 layout. And that extra clip can guarantee you will have enough ammo to kill someone. Unless you are missing and at distance. But really it just depends on your skill with the suit that will make you effective with it.
The min Commando is a great dps brawler that can out damage anyone in the game and wreck all vehicles with its bonus. Even though it's a lighter heavy class, it can tank pretty well and it's pretty fast for a heavy (on a diet). In all of my time that I hardly use it I can kill anyone who dares take me on whether they got the jump on me or a straight out dual, hell I've even dealt with multiple scouts and a heavy afterwards and still won. IMO this is the best CQC dps close to mid range brawler that is out there.
But all in all it really depends who has the better skill, aim, and tactics to determine who would win between an assault and commando. But as a dedicated min player I'm more prone to the assault do I would say the assault would win, but ideally (due to Ehp and dps) the commando would win varying on his dozens of weapon choices he has

Min Commando is good for area denial as has been said but like all Commandos it stops about there.
Fat suits are fat, nothing screams "I'll take all your bullets!" Like a fat suit. Minmandos are speedy fat suits... kind of an oxymoron like an Amarr scout (OHHHHHHHHHH.) If not for swarm launcher and Mass driver bonuses they wouldn't be all that great, they fold pretty quickly when dps is applied on them because you know... you can't really miss them.
Min assaults however are swarmy bastards that really are the true Light Assaults when not considering Ewar pansy tactics! |

Sense I have both
I use my Minmando mainly for AV (Swarms) and touch off with some long reach slaying (CR). However, the CR is more for self defense then actual oriented role use
My Min assault is designed for slaying practically for CQC 1v1's. Good DPS, Tank, and regen is acceptable. Mobility is a key factor in slaying IMHO. Thus, being able to get to the right place at the right time is crucial to racking up kills.
Bottom line, if you're more of passive player who kills from range, and you also want to be a viable vehicle deterrent then go minmando.
If you like mobility, Flanking, and in you face gun fights go Min assault. Its all preference at the end of the day
