You can choose to believe me or not but I don't have any issues with frame rates on my PS3. The PC matches I've played, I've not seen any of the issues that many have described. The worst thing that's ever happened is that maybe the sound has been out of sync a little because of the Hive spams playing hell with the 5.1. I've not experienced rubber banding, LAVs pausing in the air or 30 metre teleport jumps.
The texture and Map loading improved with the SSD as I expected that's why I brought it. Didn't expect a frame rate increase from it because it wouldn't effect that. The thermal paste switch was something I'd heard could improve the PS3 performance so I had a afternoon off, some spare TIM cleaner and paste and thought I'd have a crack at it. PS 3 runs much quieter now, not only on Dust but The Last Of Use and Wipeout HD, the only other games I have for it. Almost certainly due to the GPU now having full contact with the heat sink.
I've heard that there are many different variants of PS3 as Sony often swap and change component suppliers to minimise costs. That might be a contributory factor as well. When I get the chance I might borrow a couple of friends PS3 and spend a day comparing their Dust performance in my set up compared to theirs and compare my PS3 on their set up. Has anyone done anything similar to that themselves in the last?

Can you alter your ps3 to cool more efficiently and reduce drops in framerate? Yes
Can you adjust the video output to help smooth framerate? Yes
Is the framerate for this game 'good' or even decent? No
I am suprised by how many people think that its ok just because it has been worse or that they have gotten used to it.
I get used to it too and have matches where I go 25/2 with 3500wp but if I go play any other fps shooter on the ps3, ps4, or pc and come back to dust it is noticeably choppy even with 150mb down 15mb up
You can learn to play with it but let's be serious. It is not good.
I don't know in what Universe you are living but Dust has been running smooth as butter for me. Unlike other shooters such as, Buggy Field 4 in where the frame drops at random.

Typical thermal throttling behaviour of CPU and/or GPU. Sounds like a lot of bullshit to me. As I've stated in my other threads, this has been a issue ever since Beta. This is my newest PS3, that I got back in June. No other game causes this extreme Frame rate drop. I will not give CCP ANY excuses as this isn't a new issue. People should stop damage controlling for CCP.
Your PS3 still has sonys stock thermal paste. Its utter sh*t.

^ This also, unless you play in 576p resolution. But you lose out a lot on accuracy in that case.

Sony will not put on Arctic Silver 5 in their production lines, they are more likely using something silicone based, which you buy buckets of (not small tubes): http://www.dowcorning.com/content/news/etronics_news_TC5026_auto.aspx

My mothers Yorkshire Pudding batter is a likely better to use than the Sony gunk I scrapped out of my PS3.

When I got my ps3, I had it cleaned, re-pasted and ventilation holes added (and an extra fan). I get bad frame rate, and always have. The new maps and sockets are really bad - I have to stand still for 10 seconds sometimes before the wall no longer looks like it was built in mine craft. I didn't realise there was a door in one wall the first 3 times I played on one map!
About a week ago, I was swarming a tank with a squad mate, and we both saw it dissappear and then pop up at the other side of the map a second later. |

Below 20fps, every other game. In Gal research it 'peaks' at 10 fps.
People would enjoy Dust a lot more if they accepted the fact that EVERYTHING is subject to change

Do you have a mechanical hard drive? Try with a SSD, even a cheap hybrid drive will do fine. Unreal Engine 3 has unfortunate slow loading of textures due to them being streamed directly from the hard drive.

Watched Starlight Burner's video again, this time with sound on.
You are ranting about CCP making a bad game, while you can hear your loud PS3 fan in the background, and seeing thermal throttling (extreme framerate drops). This is not normal behaviour of the game or your PS3. I do not know if you are just trolling or?
This specific thing is not CCPs fault, its your hardware failing on you. Fix your ****, i.e. clean your PS3, or it is going to show YLOD sooner or later.
At the same time, I am not pleased with CCPs mouse input, the frame rate in general and aim assist being a part of this game. But you can't blame them for your broken hardware.

Just in case you dont read comments on youtube.
1. Defrag your PS3.
2. Get about a gig free at least.
3. Reinstall Dust 514.
4. Clean your PS3; its sounds like its about to die with the fans overworking any hotter and it might blow up to bits. Surprised the fans hasn't melted yet from over use.

Actually a good rule of thumb for PS3 is if you can hear the fan noise over the sound of the HD access, then your PS3 is running too hot.

Guess what you guys had me doing yesterday? Been little over 2 yrs since I bought ps3 and never took it apart. Nothing more than blast air through. Noticed my fan is running more lately and figured I'd take more advice found around here. Heatsinks looked like they were covered with felt. Paste wasn't dry but looked like sony could have been a little more generous with it.
Either way, cleaned everything. Repaste. Added some extra ventilation. All I can say is thanks for the tip guys! I either forgot to plug the fan back in or it really enjoys being clean. Fan never kicked into high and ran cool all eve. |

No problem.
When I used to run a gaming shop, the number of people complaining that x console had stopped working that when you queried had the damn thing near a radiator, fire, on top of a cable box or even had magazines kept on top of it....

Good job dude, you just saved your PS3s life :)
I hope you can enjoy a better gameplay experience from now on.
