I miss the time where 90% of the game used starter fit because they were useful and free.
I miss when the Heavy was the classic AV fit
I miss when 99% of scouts used the SR from the points accessible to everyone
I miss when a Laz0r could melt HAVs
I miss when Dropships were easy to fly
I miss the old assault being caldari only.
I miss almost all of it, but not the 'invalid fit' glitch

I miss when snipers where actuall snipers and there system worked, not shots missing targets, no daft range restrictions, better scope. I miss having a lag free game, Beta might have had many bugs, but not a lot of lag, neither in menu's or ingame. To me this game is getting worse with each update and all they do now is avoid the mayor gameplay issue's in the hope no one see's it or care's enough. But most of all i miss those big clans/company's/community that i fought against in the olden days, for they where the reall warriors. |

I also miss when all the old Vehicle Content was in the game and Dust had a real gritty, rough and tumble vision of being EVE's little brother.

Closed beta: Potential incarnate Now: The product of this game's performance worsening since a time possily a bit after closed beta.
Beta:
Beta had some better maps. No one had to deal with the extreme scout abuse, the product of hotfix charlie and other changes. No one had to deal with extreme AV/Vehicle abuse. The skill tree didn't create an immense rift where older/higher/highest paying players will always have an advantage as it does now. The graphics in some cases were better. Players strafing back and forth at 200 MPH didn't exist. You actually survived from strafing and not dying from it. You didn't have to worry as much from being easily shot at from a distance(To be honest players outranging you being a near constant risk never should be in any fps) To some extent better UI Better vehicle controls I think then it actually cost WP to deploy vehicles, now? Spam away. And so on.
A lot of old elements need to come back. |

Nope. People laud BETA like it was some kind of Utopian area in DUST's history when in fact it was really pretty bad, to the point of unplayable. The only thing I miss from BETA is the original way skirmish was played and being able to damage/rep MCCs. Other than that it was bad and people shouldn't tell all the stories about how good it was because it wasn't. I love DUST and I was in one of the first rounds of players but it was a BETA and to be honest, BETAs suck and that is why they are called that.
The game is much better than it was then and the only real problem is the number or active players. Raise the number of players actually logged on and on the ground to at least 5k and 99% of this games problems would vanish.

Overall? Games better now. Much better then Codex or Chromo, or pre-Codex.
As for the games FEEL... Codex was the best IMO. I felt powerful and useful in Codex, but now I feel like a bit of a number to be killed off. Admittingly, people only ran Standard and Militia Fits then, cause the skills were impenetrable, and ISK was worth a damn then. Felt more fast paced, with (IMO) better AA, and a much tighter game feel.
Uprising kinda wrecked that, but it's still good. If you can get past the faults now, this is so superior to the old. So much more content to work with (unless you're a HAV, in which case you're getting bumfucked right now), pretty good gameplay feel, improved skill tree, map variation from the 3 whole options we had then. So much MORE now.
I remember back when the HAVs were routinely used to blast MCCs out the sky and when the SMG was added and back when the melee was a NK.
I was there.
Because you wanted to be something you're not.

Raise the number of players actually logged on and on the ground to at least 5k and 99% of this games problems would vanish. It was not perfect, had many occurring glitches and bugs. I remember a bug where all fits were invalid and another where your squad would be placed alone on a map... I miss that one, my squad alway just started a 'roadkill' mode and we all tried to slam into each other in LAVs... I jumped in assault and got an assault proto w/ duvolle. I don't see how it was unplayable, I played a ton in closed... my activity dropped with open beta and new players hopping on and shout 'sick d*ck bitches!" I miss when I didn't have to see that in local... The game was fun, not very complex, but fun.

I only played the last 2 weeks of the Closed Beta, but thatGÇÖs technically enough to be a Closed Beta vet. I started just a few days before DUST was moved to the Tranquility Server.
I believe the general consensus is that the Open Beta was a high point in DUST, being both better than the Closed Beta, and better than the first year of DUST after official release. With the release of Uprising DUST went downhill steadily, and was at its worse in Uprising 1.7.
This downhill slide stopped with 1.8 which made DUST fun again. Then Rattati took over and started his balance Hotfixes, and with each Hotfix DUST got better. It is generally agreed, even for those see the past with rose colored glasses, that now DUST is finally in a better place than it was in the Open Beta. The only real argument is on weather Open Beta DUST was surpassed in Hotfix Bravo or Hotfix Charlie?
I never got to play it myself, but I think generally to feature of the Closed Beta that I hear people ask for the most was Skirmish 1.0.

The only things I honestly want at this point is parity amongst Heavy weapons and PvE. With those, My personal dream of dust will be complete and I'll be 100% satisfied.

I never got to play it myself, but I think generally to feature of the Closed Beta that I hear people ask for the most was Skirmish 1.0.
No hotfixes have yet to balance scouts. AV was made overpowered. Specialised tanks are overpowered still. Sentinels are still super slayers. There is still ADS abuse. Stealth, something that never belongs in an FPS as is it gives very few too much of an advantage, is still here. 4 out of five suits still have no completely solid role for teams. The strongest weapons are still the easiest to use to a certain majority. Still we have maps more empty than a visual concept of nihilism. Hotfix charlie made the scout problem worse. Hotfix Delta only made guns more powerful/harshly less useful instead of targeting efficiency. Players can literally outstrafe your ability to aim, regardless of sensitivity. You don't run as fast as a human can.(Taking out the fast paced part of this FPS, and the maps have the same effect)
There are still many problems left. Sometimes I question the Dev's choices, but mainly you could say that Uprising 1.8, and possibly other versions, was a product of the Devs listening to a harshly complaintative community. Complaints with no logical reason, just "Boo hoo I want my rail rifle to do 1,000,000 damage in point blank CQC and have the bullets pass through the player and explode like a nuke so I can get easy kill streaks with my unpractical gun". Mainly selfish or silly demands.
There is going to be compensation for these issues now, luckily, yet if people don't stop this pure progress has yet to be made.
