Gallente because I hold freedom in high regard (thought they're a bit hypocritical on this).
Caldari because I can be cold and calculated and I also value teamwork and unity.

Amarr as the big theocracy crushing the wills of their enemies. But they also really do believe they are doing best for the universe and do follow their principals. Jeez, it is part of the law that Minmatar salves that become good religious 'Amarr' would be set free as citizens.
Gallete are all peace and freedom right? Well, not exactly, no. (Trigger Warning: Torture, in detail). They also like to go all "1984" and pull a 2 minute of hate to execute a traitor.
Minmatar seem like the scrappy good guys but reading into them you pretty much see that they are just as 'evil' as everyone else. The oppress themselves, have lots of infighting, and generally pull the victim card when being jerks themselves.
Caldari can be seen as "hard work and sacrifice will make you successful" and their code of ethics similar to the Japanese/Samurai might make for a cute look of "American Dream with honor." Add in the fact they are also the smallest military and ran from oppression by the Gallente on a miserable home world and they look to be the scrappy good guys... until you realize that their entire economic and social system is more ridiculous than Ayn Rand could ever come up with when trying to parody her own work.
So saying that you are going to be fight against oppression and for goodness as ANY Empire is kind of silly. They are all a**holes.

The Amarr.
This neither because I am religious (which I am not) nor pro slavery (which again I am not) but simply because the values that hold their society together and have done so in the modern age of New Eden have their merits.
A sprawling Empire of stable high security space, a wealth of art and history, multi-ethnic society, and a Unitarian focus.
The average Amarr citizen lives a pretty normal and uninterrupted life. Kids go surfing during their free time, go to schools like anyone else, find themselves a pretty normal job perhaps in agriculture producing wine or wheat, in trade, or in the militaries.
The Amarr are a very conventional, very private, but unified culture.

Caldari. Why? Because Caldari is the best race, certainly do not have the best ships in EVE though. In my opinion this is held by the Minmatar and Angels Cartel for having super hard hitting super fast hit and run ships.
Vagabond, Cynabal, Dramiel, Machariel, Loki..........at least they were super badass when I used to play last.
Don't get me wrong, all races in EVE have some wickedly awesome ships but as you may or may not have noticed, I have a bit of an obsession with speed and the ability to GTFO when things turn south.

Amarr used to think they were the **** (Read, at one point they WERE the ****), then got there asses handed to them by the Jove and thus began the gradual decline of the once super mighty empire.
As a Caldari I sympathise. While it was nice to see a moment of humility in the Amarrians, we Caldari were there too. Before the splitting up of ourselves with the Gallente. We had to pay a terrible price to make the Gallente scum see the error of their ways but the morale of the story is any foe can be defeated if attacked in the right way.
One of the reasons I think the Caldari and Amarr get along so well, both have bruised egos that they are trying to repair.

In Dust514 I have two characters. I chose them based on the descriptions.
Gallenti as stated for freedom, liberty and such. Caldari for corporate greed.
I never liked EVE Online and until I met some nice EVE players here in Dust I have never like EVE players either. So their lore ... really doesn't matter to me.
My favorite tank is a Lightning. Just sayin.

The Amarr did and still do.
They wholly believe they are the chosen children of God and no instance in their collective history has given them reason to doubt this. Currently they are still considered in many respects to be as the Imperial Navy is the largest active military group in New Eden and in many respects (even being confirmed my Muriya Mordu to be winning the Cold War) is also the most advanced Navy in New Eden as they were the first to be able to develop the T3 Destroyed. Moreover their economy is incredibly strong leaving them able to on several occasions financially destabilise the State.
As for Vak'Atioth lets not even start. The Amarr broadcast their intentions of war to the Jove long before they made contact at Vak'Atioth and additionally made the assumption based of population reports that the Jove were numerically inferior and thus unable to pose a threat to the Amarrian Navy. As such they sent 1 squadron...... 200 ships at most out of the entirety of a Navy that could deploy cynosensural fields and Dreadnaughts.
During the conflict while the Amarrian fleet was completely destroyed, this being a result of Amarrian battle doctrine and not inability to do so, destroyed 1/3 of the opposing fleet. The reason Vak'Atioth is considered a crushing defeat for the Amarr is because they realised for the first time that they were faced with a technologically superior force centuries more advanced and that in only having just met the Caldari and Gallente that the appearance of invulnerability was shaken.
