As someone mentioned before I was led to believe that your "closed eye" contained your HUD as a result of inability to produce a technologically superior model of sensor suite that accommodated and allowed for the use of both eyes visual data. I like to think of it as the minmatar's way of keeping our suits working in any possible condition. If an EMP were go off all suits but minmatar suits would be blind, while we would have one eye to shoot all the headless chickens. This also explains why minmatar orbital support is EMP (wish it blinded people though).
