Have you ever payed attention to the forums? People want this game to work realistically and I don't blame them. But so many people have been crying for years about remote explosives but have you noticed they never change? I'd like to explain why they don't change and why they shouldn't change.
Do any of you know what a landmine is? Back in Vietnam, you'd be bebopping about and step on one and hear a very distinct "click" sound. You know you were screwed. There was no coming back from those....you either had to think of something clever to get away from it or your ass was dead.
Remote explosives are the Dust 514 equivalent of landmines. Obviously a true landmine would be ridiculous in this game because they could be littered and spammed all over the place and anywhere you stepped, BOOM! And that would be a drag for sure.
But remote explosives SHOULD be how they are. They're basically a mobile landmine and that's wicked cool. Its like C4. It functions like C4 and it should. I could throw a brick of C4 at you and detonate it mid flight so why shouldn't RE's be used the same way? Its tactics.
RE's are one of the most well balanced and useful weapons in this game but all of you complain because you don't know how to counter them or look for them. You know how often I get killed by remote explosives? Probably 1/10 times I see them. I usually spot them immediately because I've just learned from using them and being killed by them what they look like on the ground when you're near. Plus using a flux grenade to clear out objectives doesn't hurt either.
Using RE's is why I started playing this game in the first place....because I saw the potential in them and I was like hot damn what a clever weapon CCP designed.
TL;DR - Stop begging for a nerf to RE's because you're too lazy to learn about them and look for them. |

1. RE is not a landmine 1a. The RE has to be triggered by the player, a landmine is a put down and forget about it and hope that someone triggers it
2. Contact grenades got nerfed because they exploded on impact and your C4 idea is basically the same with an instant detonation timer 2a. The detonation timer got extended in the 1st place due to players throwing them like grenades

the basic and adv REs could use another round of damage nerfs.
there's essentially no point in running proto REs unless you're tank hunting. advanced will kill any dropsuit

Very useful yes, but not balanced. In this universe they aren't even capable of making grenades that can kill a guy in a dropsuit, so how is it fair and balanced that are they making REs that 1-hit anything? |

Edit: too lazy to fix caps. Enjoy. I agree. There should be a short amount of time before you're able to detonate it so as to avoid mid air C4. Though the remote explosive should continue to explode instantaneously as a booby trap.

I think the reason RE's are so effective is due to matrix bullet time scouts taking no damage as they toss them as a full squad is trying to down the scout before the player detonates and takes out 3 players Next fix might see REs take the power slide if scouts actually take damage once again . After rendering and fps are fixed Nov 4 and REs are still over the top, then better fixes to the RE should be looked at.
P.S. I hate REs and the current slimes that use them.

Two Things would fix the RE problem we have now. 1- Breakin's 5 Second timer 2- NOT being replenished by nano hives. They are equipment after all not ammunition.

re is the only counter to heavy spam and equipment spam both of which present a very unfair scenario towards other play styles. If there is a building objective only re/heavy can clear the heavy spam out. If you don't have heavy yourself this is the only counter. I have proto heavies and I know it's a pain to be RE'd, but honestly it takes me just as long to kill a scout with hmg as it does for them to throw re and detonate it, seems pretty fair.

Significantly different to land mines when you could remotely force them to detonate and of course magically attach them to the front of LAV for Cruise Missiles of Gowdawful mechanics.

The part of RE people are complaining about is that you can chuck them and immediately detonate killing everyone. People want to nerf the throw range and add a timer on it before you can detonate.
Theres always money in the banana stand.

One simple fix to REs is to force some type of animation when deploying (similar to when you inject someone).
They then become traps rather than the frizbee of death. |

RE's are more like Claymores and I have never seen or heard of anyone throwing a Claymore into a group of enemy and exploding it. If they tried they would likely kill themselves and not the enemy.

Since when are res claymore??!!! They are Damn C4 sticky explosives that can be lobbed, stuck or placed as desired to maximum effect, and their detonation time is just as much if not more than it takes a heavy to rinse a scout throwing them

My problem with RE's is that often they can't be countered. Many times I have seen the RE getting thrown, seen it land and try to run but the blast radius is large enough to kill me anyway. A 5 meter radius allows about 75sqm of coverage, 3 RE's can then make a 225sqm death zone which is far too large an area with that kind of damage.

Ummmm, a Claymore is C4 encased with projectiles to make it more deadly. The similarity is that it must be manually detonated, remotely. I agree that RE's are much more deadly and versatile but the OP was trying to make analogies to RL and if we are going to do that then we should try to make them at least a little accurate.

The problem with nearly every person on a team being a heavy with an HMG and standing in a doorway spraying is why people use the RE's.
Heavies cannot be effectively countered without them....plain and simple. No dropsuit or fitting can withstand 3 heavies shooting at them, that's instakill. But bunny hop into their fire, you have enough time to drop a proto RE and if you're lucky you can blow it and BAM! Heavies down or damaged enough for other players to get through.
You want to fix RE users? Fix heavy spam. I use RE's to give MY team a chance against teams of heavies and I've always been THE guy that was known for that. I'll suicide myself and my gear to clear an objective of heavies or anything else so we can get the hack.
RE's don't need an arming timer or anything else...they're fine the way they are. Hell, you want a time? Make the heavies HMG's have to spool up before they fire....bam! That solves two problems at once. |
