I got a message from someone that I knifed saying 'Tryhard'. You know, that's kind of what I'd think if I were knifed... Knives are no longer a niche weapon, and are getting to be a pretty common sight in battle. Since Charlie, knives have become a lot easier to use, and it's not like it was that hard to get into CQC anyway. Not to mention that everyone suddenly wants to use knives now to seem 'cool', but that ship has sailed. Mainly, I'm upset that they're becoming mainstream XD. How do you feel when you see a knifer in the kill-feed, or someone tries to knife you?

When I get knifed I feel the same way as when I get shotgunned: cheated out of a fight. I run assault dropsuits primarily and even in a squad a cloaked scout can BANZAI! stab me and run before a squadmate can cover my ass. It feels too much like an instagib. No time to react and utilize my dropsuits' abilities.
I sometimes hope that Legion doesn't have melee weapons. They feel very antiquated in Dust 514.

Feel the same when you get blapped by a forgegun? Blown to smithereens by REs? Get your head blown off by a sniper? Ran over by an LAV? Vaporized by an orbital?
They have the same effect, after all. I'd rather have legion have a fun play style than have it removed for absolutely no valid reason.
Anyway, more on topic: why would I care about more people knifing? Knifing was only ever "cool" or outside the mainstream due to the myriad of aggravating issues that hampered the effectiveness of knives, thus preventing all but the most masochistic from using them. If knives had been "fixed" from their implementation, they would have never been "cool" and would have always been mainstream.
Welcome to the way things should have been from the start.

Forge guns lack the precision of a point-blank unavoidable shotgun blast to the head or knife to the back. I can zig-zag a bit and avoid a forgegunner.
I haven't died to an RE in months. Typically they are strapped to the objective. Throw a flux, watch them pop, hack the point. I WISH I could throw a flux and pop a scout. Somehow they would dodge it so there goes that idea.
Are you really going to bring up road kill deaths? LAVs make a lot of noise driving around at full speed. Don't get out in the open, listen for their incredibly load engine sounds, and you will die from a LAV once every thousand deaths.
Warbarge strikes aren't able to be dodged. You got me there, but at least someone earned a warbarge strike All you have to do to be a scout with knives is invest a thousand SP.

I've been noticing this a bit. The influx in knife users along with the buffs CCP gave them, while small in most cases, seems to have people jumping on the bandwagon in saying they're OP. Why the need was felt to give them AA and a 2.5 meter range (?) is something I can't understand; seriously, 2.5 meters? That's taller than your clone. They're still fun to use though and it's entertaining to spot one in the killfeed. Usually don't worry about it unless I actually get knifed, at which point... It. Is. On

Now, perhaps it's different with AA, but both shotguns and Nova Knives are far from unavoidable at close range. It's so easy for a target to take a single step and have the knifer stumbling past like an idiot, or to have them realize you're there and start dancing around you. Ballerina4lyfe! Shotguns aren't much different, that strafing against a forgegunner will work pretty well against a shotgunner.
RE's are still plenty common, I think they're losing some of their thunder though. Seem to be a bit less common for whatever reason, and there's not much you can do against LAV's on some maps. Sure, stay in cover all you want, but you're generally going to have to move eventually. You might hear that LAV coming, but if you're trying to cross the street with your friends and some drunk driver speeds around the corner with the nitrous on, good luck getting out of the way in time.
Nova Knives are best sidearm.

For example, if he used his cloak to wait until you past, deactivated it, sprinted at you and knifed you, then sprinted off, he earned his kill. As it stands, he can simply sprint to you cloaked, kill you instantly, and be gone before anyone can even know he's there. This is improper use of the cloak.
What we really need is for profile to increase with speed, meaning a sprinting scout is easier to see coming, making ambushes a) much more cat and mouse and b) giving people time to react if the scout springs the ambush too soon/late.
But alas, Legion.

Hit a nerve? You think you hit a nerve when all I did was ask a legitimate question?
Yeah, all you have to do in order to "instagib" a suit with NKs is invest a few thousand SP. Never mind anything else, like biotics and range/camps/precision mods...
Looking at things like that, being anything, from heavy/assault/logi, nothing is SP intensive. All you need to be an assault and wreck face is lvl 1 assault of any race and a basic weapon and sidearm. Heavy? Just whip out a militia suit and HMG, no SP at all.
And NKs are unfun for hundreds of players? Please, link me to the poll/research that was conducted on this topic. How often do you die to knives on a normal, non event day? How many kills do knives get in PC? How many kills do NKs get across all players in all modes compared to other weapons? How is it that you know this "ratio?"

That's an exaggeration. The range is not as big as some people here make it out to be. The reason it was increased from 2 to 2.5 meters is because striking with the knives has the effect of canceling your sprint. Back in the old days when the range was still 2 meters, this cancellation of the sprint when striking presented a major problem in which your target will have moved an extra 0.5 meters before your knives strike. There is also a slight delay between the time you tap the trigger and the moment the knives actually do their strike due to the animation speed. This resulted missed opportunities where knifers miss their marks despite being within humping distance of their target that's running away from them.
With the tiny buff to range, this now made it possible to hit your mark while chasing your target. There is still a slight delay with the animation and your sprint still gets cancelled out when you strike, but the range buff compensates for that. As a consequence, it is no longer necessary to ask for a sprint-charge mechanic because the changes to the knives more than compensates for the lack of such mechanic.
Surprisingly almost nobody, up to this point, has complained much about them outside of little things like tunnel vision and the recently-introduced Nova Knife Fitting Optimization skill book which requires a lot of SP to train but only gives you 2 PG savings at level V -- t's actually 1 PG saved if you fit anything else along with the knife.
The fact that the knives become more mainstream doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I'm happy for it. It means the knives are now totally viable rather than just being the laughing stock of the game. Also, popularity doesn't always equate to something being OP. I'm running into knifers more often but those people don't seem to know how to kill me with them and they drop like flies when they challenge me to a one-on-one duel with knives. This brings me to my next point.
Ninja knifing requires a massive amount of investment in both experience and skill points. The knives won't be scary enough until you have trained up to at least level 3 on NK proficiency and level 3 on Minmatar Scout Dropsuit. That's not accounting for core skills like handheld weapon upgrades for the damage mods and engineering & electronic skills for the PG/CPU buffing on a suit that is notorious for having very limited PG compared to the rest of the scout suits. There is also the heavy losses you will encounter. I've been knifing since 2 years ago and I still suffer negative KDRs every match.

Lol I remember that Aria me and you ran into each other and I let you go cause you didn't have knives but to expand on what you are saying I ran into a mk.0 that had a SG/knife combo I shot them once to get his attention and he stared at me but didn't want to pull out his knives.. Eventually he shot me so I hunted him down with my TT-3 then I saw him stab my team so I tried one more time to knife fight him.. he cloaked and ran... let's just say I tortured him with my knives... I just want a fight is that too much to ask for?
Yes haha everyone wants easy kills nowadays with the knives. And I think that's why we have so many new scrubby knifers. And yeah that day was awesome. I wish stuff like tgat would happen more often.

That's nothing. It still irks me to see scouts challenge me with a pair of knives only to blap me with a shotgun when I got close. ******* dishonorable little pricks.

Knives just suck. I don't like that they terminate you instantly with no chance of being picked up. Same as the bolt pistol. Is is just me, or is anyone else getting tired of being instantly terminated by organic knives or a bolt pistol to the face. For all those new players out there, this can't be fun and if it were me, I'd probably quite this game before I even got to level 2. Keep trying cause even LVL 5 proficiency means nothing atm. I say, everyone put down the knives and breakout the proto spoons.

Knives only suck when in the hands of inexperienced players. In the hands of players who have dedicated 2 years learning how to master them, they don't suck at all. And don't you dare compare the knives to the bolt pistol. There is multiple huge differences between the two. First off, the Bolt Pistol has long range of about 40m compared to the knives which only have 2.5m maximum. Second, bolt pistols are really easy to pick up on compared to the high level of patience needed to fully utilize the knives. There is just no comparison and the knives are ok where they are now.

Perhaps not lately because of the event being a side arm event, but shotty scouts are still too plentiful to be termed hipster.
Ion Pistol scouts maybe hipster.
Or Melee scouts; hipster for sure.
Shotgun scouts are just too popular.

You got me there, but at least someone earned a warbarge strike All you have to do to be a scout with knives is invest a few thousand SP. Vicious Minotaur wrote:They have the same effect, after all. Having fun with a Ginja (Sever scout) with MLT Nova Knife BPO with three red bottles for speed. No cloak.
