He made the wrong choice;
He stuck around and got rekted in a similar manner of how a two snipers kills a shotgunner they spotted at 300 meters across open field. Where the shotgunner could have ran back and got cover instead he chose to run across the field like an idiot.
The correct choice would have been to break los and lock to find a better engagement.
He didn't have any squaddies inside to bail to deal with the infantry either two heavy hmgers bailing out as he flew for cover would have ended that AVer's spree. If done any serious amounts of aving you will know that the most lethal thing to most AV is generally not vehicles. Its generally the infantry that support vehicles that proves the most deadliest.
^This.
People keep bringing up "Rock/Paper/Scissors" but, when discussing AV/V balance, so many seem to conveniently ignore the Scissors' influence (in this instance, Rock = AV, Paper = V, and Scissors = Infantry).
While focussing on a vehicle, AV is EXTREMELY vulnerable to enemy infantry.
The vehicle and the AV are not the only people out there. A vehicle should need to rely on it's allied infantry to suppress the AV and, conversely, the AV should ALSO need to rely on IT'S allied infantry to protect them while they deal with the vehicle.
Proper use of teamwork should provide an advantage on BOTH sides, as it creates a more dynamic battle, and a better gameplay evperience for everyone.
Long story short: STOP looking at AV/V balance in terms of 1v1 engagements, and START thinking about how TEAMWORK can be used to increase your advantage, regardless of which side of the AV/V debate you happen to be on. |

Sorry but thats a horrible way to look at this game. AV vs Vehicles with the exception of swarms is 50-50 based on skill. AV can fight vs infantry, Forge guns, plasma cannons, commando's wth plasma or swarms + light weapons, sidearms got a huge buff, with the exception of swarm launcher gallente, caldari and minamatar logis. Swarm launcher is just one type of AV. Its the only lock on weapon in the game, the only one thats fire and forget. Stop expanding one type of suit with one type of fit to encompass all of AV.
Relying on teamwork is a horrible way to look at a game that is focussed on teamwork? You're kidding, right?
Read again:
WHILE FOCUSING ON A VEHICLE, AV is EXTREMELY vulnerable to enemy infantry.
(I emphasized the part you seem to have missed)
Whether an AV is dodging around, looking at the sky trying to get a lock on an ADS with their Swarms, or a Forge Gunner is aiming at an HAV trying to get a clear shot at it's weak spot, guess what NEITHER of them are also doing?
Watching their back for enemy infantry.
Yes, a Commando can carry two light weapons, but he cannot USE two light weapons simultaneously. While he's got his Swarm Launcher out, he CANNOT defend himself against infantry AT ALL. If he switches to a rifle, he's then vulnerable to the vehicle.
To be fully effective, ANY AV should need teammates to watch his back WHILE HE DEALS WITH THE VEHICLE.
At the same time, ANY vehicle should be more effective at combatting AV with the support of their allied boots on the ground. They can follow the AV behind cover and get to them where the vehicle cannot, and take them out easily while their attention is on the vehicle.
Properly balanced, Rock/Paper/Scissors works for everyone.
Rock/Paper - by itself - doesn't work at all.
For BOTH sides, Teamwork >>>>> 1v1 engagements. |

Logis who are focusing on reps get killed. The assault shooting at one enemy he can see infront of him getting flanked by an invisib scout gets killed. The heavy focusing on the enemy in front of him stead of the remotes he cant see or pick up on scans gets gets killed. The scout running around who stumbles infromt of an HMG gets killed.
Teamwork multipies you effectivness of course. But you should NOT have to rely on strangers to do something you should be able to do yourself. i can rely on my side arm, my plasma cannon, might light weapons on my minando and my forge gun to defend against infantry. I can use my tanks because they have the HP to take hits, get around cover and get the hell out of dodge.
The ADS should be able to take on swarmers. on pilot skill alone, I can try to take on multiple forges 9no matter how ill advised it may be) because not every single one of the forge rounds is a garunteed hit. Every single swarm volley is.
1 vs 1 Its not even close to a fair fight, its BS.
Correction: A SINGLE player in an ADS should be able to take on a SINGLE Swarmer by himself, with the winner determined by skill alone (and vice versa).
If one side applies teamwork, then the other should be at a disadvantage, or respond in kind with teamwork of their own.
Teamwork >>>>>>> solo. |
