I agree with the OP's first two suggestions. RE's should never have become super grenades, but they should not make any sound because their purpose should be as sneaky guardians.

I doubt I'd hear it over firing, nades, hives and cloaking sounds. The problem for me is not that I don't know they have been deployed, just that I can't do anything about it. If I get tricked into running over one or someone sneaks up on me and places one, well, I can't really complain about that.

The beep on the RE is awfully similar to someone placing equipment.. One may think it's just a friendly placing a hive, but it's actually a scout who launched the RE from a distance... Even when we do realize and try to run... It's just boom and "killed by" screen.
I think giving different equipment different deployment beeps solves 1 problem. |
