I just wanted to share what a PS3 can do when used correctly. Yes, I know there are multiple PS3s computing together but no other game console can claim that they make scientific breakthroughs. Suck it to all of you who say the PS3 is junk, it is the programmers inability or inexperience that hinders the PS3. The hardware may be difficult and it may even be limited by the amount of RAM but it is a powerhouse none the less.

SONY should have kept the cell processor and told developers to HTFU and get good. Give the PS4 the cell instead of an x86 and let it eat.

It was pretty cool. I Folded a lot when not using my PS3. There was a discovery made but I don't remember where I read it at. Too bad they stopped it, I would have figured that they would have kept going for a long time. I have been thinking about doing it on my PC but I don't want to burn up my graphics card.

yea i remember all the hype about cells 10 years ago.. it was supposed to revolutionize gaming.. instead it seems we've taken steps backwards, the gratphics are better is all that came of it. i used to play on a modified server for battlefront with 128 players and that was on a PS2. then came the removal of friendly fire and aim assist that's all that PS3 has given us so a bunch of next gen turds that jumped into gaming after it became casualized can feel elite.

Yet, what will the current gen supply over previous gen?
Will it actually be more than "prettiness"?
What about from ps2 to PS1? I don't recall much improvment other than graphics... Same could be said for most generations.

The PS4 build is basically a gaming optimised PC which helps developers ALOT unfortunately there is like allmost no decent game on the next gen consoles that justify the cost for it.

I tried to reply 3 times now so I hope this one will actually go through.

Yes, a PC will load faster than a PS3. I would say that has more to do with overall system bandwidth and things like that. If I were a betting man I would bet a cell processor powered PC with the same specs and the same level of code optimization would load faster. The PS4 has and 8 core processor and has about 1.84 tflops of power and a PS3 has a single main core and a 7 special cores and produces 1.8 tflops. To be a processor from mid 2000s that is pretty good.

I am not saying the PS3 is better than the PS4, I am saying that the cell processor was a step in the right direction and that putting new and better tech into the current generation of consoles would have (in my opinion) been smarter and would have given a longer life the the current consoles. The current generation of consoles are just mid range (at best) gaming computers with half the functionality with a low price.

Cells running with a PS4 specs and code optimized for the cell will blow a x86 out of the water. The cell was designed to fill the gap between regular CPUs and GPUs. x86 architecture is from the late 70s and the system architecture of most PCs are from around in the same time. The PC needs a revolution and the cell was made to do that but SONY gave up and now they are only going to be found in task specific computers.

Kasparov was beaten by IBM's RISC CELL, not by INTEL's CISC X86.

That is not the point. Yes they have anemic RAM and woeful allocation of that RAM but that shouldn't take away from the power of the processor. Point still stands, the cell processor is a beast.

Lol wasn't disagreeing, just commenting that the amount of RAM a PS3 has compared to its processing power is ...idiotic. So I was actually agreeing with you ^_^

It is both. The PS3 can't handle what we want from a shooter and CCPs inexperience with PS3 programming compounds the problem. It takes lots of experience to develop for the cell. They have done a good job but it is just too late in the life of the console.

Thanks for agreeing! It is funny that 16 of them have only half of the RAM. If only we all could have 16 rigged together, DUST would play like a dream. Hell, if SONY had put in a memory expansion port like the 64 they may have been able to curb some of the problems of the PS3. More RAM (up to a certain point) always makes things better.

 WOW-

 hook, line and sinker.

Face it you're a CCP groupie. CCP is a little under funded developer that sits in a country that was bankrupt in the early days of dust.

You should reflect on SONY, and PSN distribution.

CCP's screwed the pooch, early and often.
