What the hell, CCP? I take two scout-y steps and everyone starts walking forward for 5 minutes, through objects, or ascending into Amarrian heaven. Two more steps, and it's rinse and repeat.
I'll see you all in Delta (will still sign in to read fan mail and daily SP, though). |

Always do. If it's someone cheating and you have evidence, spell it out very clearly so we can potentially draw Dev attention to the issue and perhaps have cheaters banned. |

Ok. Then I dont need to explain when the symptom leads directly to the method of cheating thats happened in the likes of COD, BF, Halo etc.

I am somewhat relieved to hear that the stuttering frame rates and rubber banding I've been experiencing is not just on my side. How many other players experience this's frequently?
I know there won't be a fix or even an explanation for the cause because ccp doesn't really support this game but it's good to know it's not just me

I am not a console gamer. DUST is the only game I bother with, and even then the touch of the console sickens me.
I am unfamiliar with the mechanics, symptoms and effects of lag switches. I am more familiar with headshot scripts and wall transparency hacks, having been on the receiving end of them frequently in PC games.
And to answer the poster above, yes, I see it every morning about 5-10 AM Pacific time, not consistently, and nearly always in ambush maps. |

lol it's not lag switching, it's next to impossible for a game with (crappy) dedicated servers.

FYI Lagswitches don't work when games revolve around a central server.
The reason they work for other FPS games is that one of the players is used a server, then that player can use a lag switch and cheat.
If I am mistaken, I am more than happy to hear what really happens, but this is my understanding of how lag switches operate.

Bros, if it isn't lag switching then what is it? The same symptoms of lag switching that happens in other games, happens in Dust. It's weird that when you start winning a match, all of sudden people are walking on air and shots fired are not landing. Then boom, you see a kill screen.
Either they are not admitting to the problem or they don't know what it is dude. It is some kind of cheat. It's apparent that the upload/download is disrupted, reason why people are walking on air and firing shots that don't land.

Dedicated servers is the alternative to player-hosted games. With dedicated servers you cannot control anyones connection except your own. With player-hosted servers players can stop the upload on their router so everyone freezes except himself, but you have to be host.
Edit: sorry, to answer your question, it's cause CCP is too cheap to buy decent servers. |

Dude, some information is missing here. Never in my life have I played on a dedicated server that has symptoms of a lag switching component affecting the upload/download. The walking on air is an example of this bro. It shows that the upload has been disrupted and the download has not completed. So how is this some minor bug on a dedicated server that would cause such?
The disruption shows there is some outside interference to cause such. The walking on air, firing at targets that react with shield effects, and the teleportation shows this to be true.

I like that people think there is a difference between P2P and a dedicated server. A server is a server is a server is a server. They can all be cheated and corrupted. |

basic premise of lagswitch is you have the 4 basic cables for the data flow.. the lag switch is to turn off one of the 2 outflow cables ( i think) for a breif time causeing your charater to lag for the other person but your fine on your side due to no interupted IN flow of data pertaining to the hostile so you can easly flip it on when you start getting shot turn around and pewpew turn it off done.. or something to that description.. theres meny videos about it on youtube.
PS.. iv seen bot players in some maps that are just occationally squatting or doing a single attack just flocked around a spawn point.. last one was 3 charaters of which i believe 2 were the BPO starter AV suits and 1 in a frontline suit again starter BPO.. on an urban map with all the tall ish flat roofed buildings.. like a white complex.. anyway.. it was at the Clone spawn unit at one of the lesser frequented areas.. so i popped all 3 of em and hacked the CRU cause i dont need to farm afk isk/sp farming bots

the code and servers are fine its trans atlantic latency ie US players->asia server or Asia players -> us server at peak times being a UK/EU player i do feel a little hit to my latency when i play on US server

I only get extreme lag in FW.
My guess is because its a more open system so more players with genuinely higher latency can join in. Also it seems to be far worse when Eve support is added into the mix
