It's frustrating. But you have to remember that CCP has destroyed a lot of goodwill with the community through making big promises and not delivering. So maybe, just maybe, they have learned their lesson.
Rebuilding that trust will take time though. And it needs to be built by actually delivering a good game, not just promises. |

I'd say that failure to deliver on those promises potentially came from 2 things:
1. A lack of familiarity with developing under console constraints, and not using their in-house engine.
This is completely reasonable and understandable.
During Fanfest, some devs were regularly stating how they would make certain changes to cope with the PS3's limited capacities. Or how they had to take more time coding new tools to work within the Unreal engine, because it simply didn't come with the tools they needed. For example, they have a lot of maps developed that they can't release, because they have to stay within a budget on hard drive space (and let's be honest, most PlayStation owners have no clue how to upgrade and reformat their PS3 hard drives).
2. Someone felt that developing Dust on the aged PS3 was a good idea, and disregarded all advice from people in his team to the contrary, as pedantic.
This is just speculation, of course. Forbes contributer Kathy Caprino helps employees have a good perspective on such bosses. To the boss narcissist's credit though, I'll say this... "If Dust514 was a PS3 LAUNCH game, then your idea would have been ahead of the curve. People coming from PS2 games to Dust, would have been amazed with it. Your timing was simply bad."
If CCP Shanghai stays focused on Legion 'like a weak laser rifle', and they deliver on making Legion play the way Dust was envisioned... they will NOT fail. Legion would very well be the game that infuses the EVE universe with the injection of ground players that they want. As long as they remember the VISION.
I still find that E3 trailer more appealing than Destiny or Star Citizen. All this time later, and there's still nothing like it. smh

Actually CCP have a long history of promising lots and delivering less even on the PC. EVE's history is full of examples. My personal suspicion is that it has more to do with the way CCP is run as an organisation that any technical limitation (though they exist too)
In any case. The only way we can judge CCP is by what they actually deliver ...
Star Citizen looks pretty cool in my opinion. Of course it could end up the victim of it's own hype balloon, but time will tell. |

The only two things I can think of that CCP really, truly dropped the ball on Was Walking in Stations and Monoclegate, which we're both the Incarna release (IIRC)
Sure, they've had some other, ahem, technical issues (Boot.ini) but straight up wiffing a slow pitch soft ball over the plate, I can't think of others other than the 2 listed above. |

yeah, Ccp will surely deliver....
one day....
maybe another day....
okay, sorry it had to be delayed.....
.........
......
soon.....
soon(tm)......
sorry we had to cancel the project not because of hardware limitations but because of limitations within our development team, but hey we kind of maybe have an idea how this new project probably maybe one day will pay out like the dream game we all envisioned for dust. Just on case it gets grrenlit, which is not quiet sure right now, or in a couple of momths. maybe you wont hear a long time from us, but maybe we actually do something or maybe not. But hey dust ist still kindof running I guess, or maybe not, we will see.
Dust was a nice idea, starting the project on ps3 while it was in its ending cicle was plain stupid. Promising and not deliviring was also stupid. The whole Ff presentations should be taken and used as showcase material on advertisement schools to show how to NOT deal with your customer base. And once again:Silence.
Ccp screwed up Dust and definately will screw up legion. even IF they are working non stop on legion, their great ideas womt pay out. They already said Legion will not start eith eve connection which was the biggest selling factor on dust. So all this ideas Ccp has or had for Dust are now not anymore in a "universe" they are in a stand alone game. But its gonna be awesome! Its gonna have Pve and Pvp, and cool scifi stuff....
But wait, isnt there a game which is not only "envisioned" and dreamt of coming out on 9/9 with exactly this? oh and wait? its also getting released on the limited ps3? oh well, too bad :(
My whole point is simple: ccp screwed up, and they will once again with legion. And while ccp envisions their new project other companies are out there and RELEASING awesome games. Games with similiar ideas, which are not buggy as f*ck. Ccp had the chance to bring Dust to something awesome. I'm pretty sure Sony would not have denied Dust enterimg the Ps4 which is much less limited, but instead they backed off to start all over again. All the ideas they have NOW, are done in other games, and when ccp one day will show up with legion, nobody will care anout it anymore since all this new content is already old again.
its a sad story, Imwould really loved to see dust grow, but I just lost all hopemin ccp, not because of the constant screw ups they delivered with dust, not because of this god awful presentation on ff, but because they are already screwing up with legion again. The community asked for a transparent development process since day one for Dust. Legion was their chance to do everything rigjht. Get int ouch, blogs, screenshots, videos, vlogs, but instead we once again get silence.
To me thats a clear sign that ccp clearly doesnt care about their community, so why should we care about them anymore? Other mothers (devs) habe pretty daughters (games) too, so why wait till ccp finally gets their ass up to deliver?

Personally, and this is just a guess, CCP is busily trying to figure out how they're going to weather the next 3 years and stay afloat.

I backed star citizen, mainly because they aspire to be the complete scifi simulation that EVE once aspired to be.
And if it flops, well it's hardly the first time I've wasted money on a game that failed to live up to expectations *looks at Dust*.

The time investment it takes you to post and the time investment it takes to make a good post are distinctly different. Make sure you're approaching this with the proper frame of reference.

What they should have done is release it on PC in the first place, and they never would have been faced with an entire platform's worth of potential new customers that will never touch anything they make again.

Your controller will work with a PC (USB for the win!); mac support likely won't appear until an update after launch; and spec requirements will likely be between 6.7 - 9 on the universal scale of computer hardness.

While a controller will work with the PC, it's unlikely to be an effective way of playing Legion, assuming Legion gets made at all. |
