As the title says, this is only a theory, but shield suits will be indirectly nerfed by the new FoTM Amarr Assault with a scrambler dealing ridiculous damage with >1000 total HP and buffed damage mods...
Shield suits will not be able to run or hide when this comes out because of the range and power of a charge shot+volley from a viziam.
Armor stacking will be the only form of survival.

Amarr assault isn't the only one getting a buff, ALL assaults are getting buffed. Damage mods don't just effect anti-shield weapons, they work on anti-armor weapons as well.
I don't know what about the changes makes you worried shield-tanking will be disproportionately negatively effected.

All other assaults are not.
Amarr assault gets equal buffs to all other assaults.
Amarr assault remains best assault and becomes FoTM=more common on the field=shield tankers get more screwed.

Well,never have i lost vs a Armor suit with my Six kin ACR either .... and it doesnt even have the CPU-PG requirements NOR the overheat threat of the SCR rifle.

The ttk on shield suits is just way to low, they don't have 1% chance of winning 1v1, aka op.
Something needed to be done vs shields, as long as the scr maintains its shield damage, shields will always be up, unless we get an armor version of the scr.

I have to roll with Kagehoshi on this one....loathe as I am to do so....
Plus the Min Assault Fits I have been making are very viable...... protofits of course..... I'm actually basing them off Min Frigates I have destroyed in FW.

shield tanking in the game has always been one of the hardest things to do. the first weapons had stronger affect on shields, the massive cpu and pg requirements with little hp return and as the game progressed the most OP weapon ever the scrambler rifle just melting people. Have you seen the numbers on the Calassault? You can be running up to 750 shield HP with a 2s depleted delay.
I've already got my fit planned out. 680 shield HP, 50 HP/s, 1.5/2s shield delays, a kincat, proto weapon, core locus, SMG, and a proto hive. I don't really see that as a weak fit. Not by a long shot.

I've watched again scout numbers, they suck.
Caldari scout = wallhack + radar invisibility + long range radar+ fast regen (why the hell they have a dampening bonus) Amarr scout= wallhack + HP or radar invisibility Gallente scout = precision bonus is pointless Min scout = fu.cked as usual
Assaults will get more HP, but surprise, 150 more HP are pointless when you stand in front of a heavy or when a scout can scan you and backstab you.

I call bullshit being a pure Amarrian skilled player...... I might be able to drop most players shields in 4-5 shots...... but I will never take their armour down in less than 2-3.
Now if I had precharged my shots and followed up a volley then I might 5 shot a suit.... bearing in mind after the charged shot I have between 5-7 follow ups shots tops before I overheat........ and strafing suits are very difficult to hit.

Pretty much, although many of the weapons just shoot through hp like nothing if you aren't a sentinel. Instead of changes to other things I say work must be done for the weapons. No matter what a game is it needs some realism on specific features. An example being how in reality weapons such as guns follow the rule of being harder to use the stronger they are on most cases, which of course many of our guns here don't follow. Some weapons may be on par with recoil and power, but definitely not things such as dispersion, effective range, or movement penalty. I don't think a weapon bonus such as less kick should have any purpose other than reducing the stronger kick of a stronger weapon variant instead of making a weapon super deadly.

considering everyone tries to stack as much shield extenders on their fits and run headfirst into the enemy, that tactic is UP. The use of shield regs/energizers allows you to have a greater regen than any armor suit can dream of. allowing you to duck and dive, rather than "Tank" your way through engagements.
The Minmatar is able to get up close and personal against an Ammar suit, while the Caldari can kite its way around it, either way, as long as you think it through, shields can be run to take more damage over time than armor

To play this game without going postal you have to have at least two distinct suit/gun fits you can run that complement each other. So if shields aren't working, yes switch to armor. If there are tons of laser and scrambler rifle wielding Amarr assaults, run armor with a mass driver or HMG and tear them to pieces. Every fit has its hard counter, and you don't have to be proficiency 5 to make it work. |
