so what is going on with this? I have myself noticed a marked difference between the boundless and the mh-82. and it does not seem better! seriously.
I got melted by somebody using the mh against me and I noticed that my own boundless didn't do the damage that the other guys did do. so I looked into it...
sure enough my own boundless was outclassed by the mh in my own hands too.
wtf?
is this a hit detection issue on the boundless?
I have asked around some disagree but a lot do agree with me. |

It's simple. When you're talking hundreds of DPS, to the point where an HMG can kill you faster than the human reaction time, a 5% increase in DPS isn't noticeable.

Cat Merc, you are very insistent on nerfing everything and that's all that your posts be about. Nerfing stuff.
OP, factors to consider:
HMG proficiency rating
Damage Mods
Personal Skill
I've seen people beast with the basic HMG, the MH82 and the Boundless. It's all about personal skill. I know you guys are intent on nerfing the HMG (and I wonder what the wise folks of General Discussions will choose next after they get that nerfed), but its really no need. Alot of you just suck using a HMG and alot of you lie just to get the weapon and/or class nerfed. The Sentinels are in a good place. |

You probably found yourself out-performing with the MH-82 simply because you were in a better situation, as the DPS increase (36 HP) is negligible.

Thanks for replying, I agree the damage that's labelled shouldn't be noticeable.
but it was noticeable, in the wrong direction. I actually ran it for about half a day in case it was due to weaker opponents. then went back to my boundless, same thing. it seems to perform the same as my boundless when it has 3 damage mods equipped, but without the need for damage mods
it could be a hit detection issue if more of the bullets are hitting on the mh...
I find it a bit puzzling. |

The heavies are in a good place, I just hope the HMG overheat is a reasonable enough nerf. I do think currently though that the HMG is slightly too good, (why else are there so many heavies around with HMGs?), and you can see this with people getting mowed down 50ft away...). But nonetheless heavies are pretty balanced.

JUST TO BE CLEAR.
I run a calsent heavy BELIEVE me, in no way do I want a heavy nerf. I'm not even happy with the slight nerf were getting in Charlie.
I'm an average heavy, I manage to go positive and normally am within top 7 or so
it could very easily be that I just came upon a very good heavy (the round that made me question this guy went 85-4. fair play to him)
followed by some bad blueberries on the morning I played with the mh, but it seemed to me like the boundless didn't do the damage it should.

I don't like the HMG overheat idea because the buffs prior to the Sentinel being hugely popular now were designed to make the gunfights better overall. It's not the HMG or the Sentinel's fault that they are doing what they are supposed to.
I can compromise (or better yet, get over) the possible overheat changes for HMG.
It's really unnecessary and just a catering issue to players who just plain suck. |

I really want to see how the heat buildup is on the HMG....once I see that it'll be easier to determine which direction the HMG should go.

i think we all agree the hmg needs a range nerf right? i was on my scout alt using an e-war gal scout and got melted at 47 meters by an mh-82 while i was backpedaling and spamming my rs-90 at an amarr heavy. the combat rifle should most definitely win at that range, even on an untanked suit. I support a range nerf and maybe hmg overheat increase, as well as fitting space reductions on heavies, and im proto heavy with maxed hmg skills, so that says something |

I can notice the damage upgrade from a GEK to a Duvolle, from an RS-90 to a Boundless, but not with the HMG.

Is your proficiency skills maxed out. I know mine is and if I run a MH-82 it is equal to a boundless that has few points or none skilled into proficiency. The person most likely was maxed out in skill or they are very good at the weapon. I know a few tricks to take down heavies faster, many times I have dropped a proto before he got 20% into my Armor and I run a Dren Heavy 98% of the time when I run heavy. Info fact a Dren heavy is a Tier 1 heavy or basic.

Because like most people, you view things in black and white. If a person is against the nerf, you and others assume the person uses it. Did you know Im skilled into all suits and run all roles, depending on the situation?

I've seen plenty of things getting nerfed that don't deserve it. The Sentinels were nerfed before. Became a joke, now buffed and people want to nerf it again.
The ARs, once the dominate rifle out of limited choices was nerfed as well. Later it would be buffed when other weapons came about.
And here's the thing about FOTM that so few understand. There are players who will go with whatever is strongest due to their desire to win. So when you nerf something, they look at the stats and see its not powerful. They then look for the next powerful combination of suits and modules according to the changes. Once found, that becomes the next "FOTM". So we are doing nothing more than chasing a unicorn. In order to destroy FOTM, you would need to make a flat balance attempt. Basically, everything would have to be equal to each other.

Hmg vs hmg combat is silly sometimes. Also the gallente is resistant to projectiles so that could lower your dps. I'm not asking for any nerfs, but the hmg should be more for killing medium and light frames instead of other heavies. The clip size and rof should be the perks of using the hmg, but maybe the heating changes will make sprayed less. |

You probably found yourself out-performing with the MH-82 simply because you were in a better situation, as the DPS increase (36 HP) is negligible.
This.
Also, was your suit fitted exactly the same or did you put the extra pg/cpu you had to work in the form of a little more HP?
The tiny difference in DPS along with being able to tank a little more leads to the MH-82 being superior to the Boundless in most situations. The cost also makes it much better when you consider that you are losing very little.

Try spooling up your HMG before you engage the enemy.
While yes it shouldn't matter, it makes your reticle smaller which ends up dealing tons of damage to the enemy before they know it.
Works well with any HMG, especially in combination with headshots :P

I'll try to answer everybody being helpful here,
yes I am maxed out on proficiency hmg, I'm also aware that my calsent wouldn't be as good in sustained fire as gallente etc, I did use the same fit and only changed the hmg, it was what I wanted to find out after all.
the heavy I was against when I noticed the difference was way better than me, I am definitely an average heavy, it's my secondary role which I only do for fun and according to the map, I'm under no disillusion about my prowess, lol
but I noticed the difference on my own fit too, the mh seems to do more damage, it is possible that it's circumstantial illusion, after all the difference between them is minimal, against weaker enemies etc.... but I did run it for a full morning and I wasn't coming up against the same people over and over.
thanks for the spool tip, I do forget to do that. |
