Sorry, ADS swings the balance too much, they have to be critically vulnerable. They do 2 things that impacts everyone else; They destroy uplinks on roofs or in the open. This prevents a flank and keeps the fight just a ground level heavy vs scout vs heavy slugfest. They also provide air support to harass logistics vehicles and armor protection.
No other item in the game has the ability to make as much of an impact.
As for ramming, it makes complete sense. Its an airship, not a tank. It has systems designed to keep it in the air. One would only expect that a kinetic impact mid air with a similar size vehicle traveling at a high velocity would cause extensive damage. Cracked metal plates, cut wires, compromised fuel lines, loss of thrust, loss of targeting, ect.
Incase anyone is wondering, yes, I ram ADS all the time. If you fire on my milita dropship or destroy one of my uplinks, Im going to hurt your wallet by ramming your ads from the sky. My favorite method is to fly the ceiling till im high above a Python, then slowly lower myself down till im about 20M above it, then I cut all thrust and fall right on the roof of the Python. Both dropships go down in flames, sometimes with all hands on deck.
It is worth noting though, that Incubus ships are much less vulnerable to this tactic. Ive actually had Incubus pilots throw on the hardeners and ram me out of the sky without falling. |

Take the Python for example.
You get a great bonus for small missile turrets, to the point that you can rain down hell on just about anyone or anything. If you get targeted by a FG, you can fly high enough to get away especially if you put on a speed mod. The thing that sucks is that any red dot and call in a Militia drop ship and crash into you and you both get destroyed, unless they happen to call in a Gorgon. Then the red dot survives with some hp left and land then either recalls his or just lets in blow up.
Now in all reality shouldn't it take alot more then a Militia drop ship that crashes into you to destroy you? I think it should do some damage to it but not to the point of destruction. After all your flying an Assault Drop Ship, so should it not have the ability to survive a militia drop ship just crashing into it?

If the guy flies towards you, then sure it's my fault for not out manoeuvring him. If the guy dives bombs purely because he's not good enough to use a swarm launcher (which tracks the target for you), then he is a scrub and I take great pleasure in killing and terminating his clone, hopefully costing more than my drop ship did.
However if he even bothered to strap RE's to the front and require detonating them to kill me, sure I'd be cool with that!

I have a few forge fits. Youll either run to the ceiling or run to your red line or put a building in the line of sight. The FG is more of a deterrent than a killer. After 2 hits youll run, so I can use it to keep you at bay. Only bad pilots stay around to risk the 3rd shot after ive nailed them twice in a row.
In any case, often the ADS survives and then dives down on me a few minutes later. I dont like spending all match forge gunning just so me and my team can have the ability to use rooftop spawns.
Monkey MAC wrote:Large Missile Turrets
This is a moderate threat at most. Besides, in most matches, tanks will have destroyed all the turret installations within the first few minutes
Monkey MAC wrote:Swarm Launchers
You can outrun those. Also they hurt armor more than shields, and Pythons run when their shields are about to fail.
Monkey MAC wrote:Even Grenades and Plasma Cannons if you get to close.
Yeah but again this is very situational. Not only do you have to be prettymuch in my face, I have to be dodging the XT-1 missile launcher if Im that close.
Look, I get that you are just trying to play the game your favorite way. Me too im doing the same thing. Im trying to prevent my team from being redlined by having several forward staging areas where we can rally and charge back. If you open fire on me in my milita dropship on the way to place uplinks, that dropship becomes a human guided missile.
I wont lie, most of the time I do prefer to FG the ADS. 75WP then you fly away, recharge, come back and give me another 75WP. Its profitable. But if youve impeded my ability to to provide my team with flanking options, then you gotta go. |

After all your flying an Assault Drop Ship, so should it not have the ability to survive a militia drop ship just crashing into it? I think you should complain less on the forums about a valid tactic and gain more experience in the air. It would serve you better. And for the sake of argument, in reality if one aircraft collides with another aircraft at high speeds, what happens?
ok so by that logic a jlav should not need any r/e attached to it in order in blow up a tank when it crash into it at high speed, but that is not how it work. with a tank you need r/e to do any damage to a tank by crashing into it. so why does it only take a tap from any other drop ship to blow up an ADS? it does not matter how much shields i have on my ADS i could stack as many heavy shield extenders i can on it and still just get tapped ( not even a full speed ram ) and get destroyed.
it not a valid tactic, just like jlav is not a valid tatic.........its just something that people with little to no skills against tanks or ADS use because it is not very costly to use a militia drop ship or lav and crash into a high costing tank or ADS.......and with jlav you need time to set up with leaves you open to get killed.....so no its not a valid tactic. |

If you don't want/aren't prepared to play as AV all match, I suggest you don't bother at all, AVing is a role and vehicles are still a constant threat. I mean do you seriously expect me to be ok with my enemy spawning in advantageous location and not do my best to stop it? Even if it took 2 shots (which by the way, the first usually hits unnanounced), I would just wait until you stoped being an AVer and do it thenMonkey MAC wrote:Large Missile Turrets This is a moderate threat at most. Im not motivated by lack of having something. i have the ADS SP unlocked and I have a few Incus sitting in my garage. I practice flying on sunny days. Eventually my plan will be to use that as my main ADS killer. But until then, i use the options I have.
And rather noble of you to. But consider, you just want to give your team the ability to spawn on tne map in safety, yet close enough that you can maintain constant defence.
I want to allow my team to advance without having to outclone or outlast your uplinks. You have a tactic and I have a counter.
Like I said I wouldn't mind ramming so much if 1) A 3mph collision will destroy 3500 EHP dropship in 1 go. 2) You actually jury rigged so that you could do this. (JLAV style)

The problem, currently, is how easy it is for ships to flee to safety the moment they take any sort of damage; one volley from my Wyrkomi swarms and they immediately take off, usually using an afterburner to do so. My second volley (if I can even get it to launch before the lock-on is lost) is never able to catch up. Five seconds go by and here they come again, raining death from above with their missiles. Seriously...do any ADS pilots use any of the other turrets?
