I think its a shame more ADS pilots are not in favour of buffing the generic dropships and giving them skills focused towards being tough transports and shooting platforms, it would make them relevant on the battlefield for more than just dropping uplinks at the start of a match, for people that love air to air combat they get something to shoot at, for people that love the teamwork of working with a dropship crew they get a craft more suited to the role without exploiting a bug.

I'm still butthurt about logi dropships. What you described is the logi dropship, or what it was supposed to be anyways.
Main reason I'm not in favor of buffing standard ships is: very small SP investment, buffed suicide dropships.

Logi DS was never supposed to be a Gun platform. It should have been a repair and resupply vehicle.

It should have been a repair and resupply vehicle. Except it had the potential to fit a massive tank, and was really slow, which lent to it being a gun platform for your side gunners. Repair and resupply would have been nice but clearly CCP didn't want anything to do with that, so going more with what they ACTUALLY gave us, yes, it was more of a mobile gun platform / reinforcement unit.

Hey I'd love to see the logiDS return, but the culture of development atm is to work with what we have, though they have said they would consider bringing somethings back (in the context of the old tanks like the Sagaris)
I should also explain when I speak of the standards being buffed I'm thinking more of the grims and myrons not the militia dropships and I think their skills should be tied to the dropship command skill, as for rammers, just something we have to live with even if a tap didn't kill us people would still try bumping us hard and causing a crash, just gotta roll with the lame, hopefully you don't get the blues trying to ram you like I do.

DUST Fiend wrote:Where ADS pilots and gunners can co exist in harmony without abusing bugged mechanics to feel relevant.
Currently, fitting side turrets is far too taxing for a standard build, which is why most people will only do so if they're abusing the bugged pilot stacking mechanic. This, clearly, was never intended. However, it seems that it WAS indeed intended to have side guns. So, what's an easy fix?
Once Pilot stacking has been addressed in 2024 with the next client side patch, I propose an addition to the Assault Dropship Operation skill:
15% reduction to the PGU/CPU fitting cost of side turrets per level, to a maximum of 75% reduction. In addition, a very small buff to PGU/CPU of assault dropships.
These ships are intended to rain hell down upon the battlefield, but without the added (read: bugged) DPS of pilot stacking, there is very little incentive to risk your more expensive ship to do so. This would reward pilots who invest in the ADS skill while not buffing solo players who refuse to fit side turrets in order to have cheaper fits. HELL NO. I dont want flying tanks with 5000HP on armor. And there are allready fitting optimisation skills.
-Small turret operation: 2% less PG+CPU per lvl -small turret fitting optimisation: 3% less PG+CPU per lvl
So now lets have a look what you just proposed: 75% from the ADS skillbook+10% small+15% optimastion= 100% fitting reduction on a ADS.
You just want to have a brick tanked dropship and 3 guns on it which each will require 0PG+CPU. And people call skill stacking broken. |

Reducing the fitting cost of small turrets in general would be nice too. I just tossed this together in response to the good news that the bug is a bug, and to drum up some conversation. 5% off per level would be fine too.

Reduce small missile magazine to 7. This stacking promotes teamwork. Everyone knows that dust rewards teamwork. When the pilot and gunner have 10-30 mill sp into nothing but ADS and small turrets, It would be expected that they kill everything in one pass.

i will only support an Advanced dropship thread if the TL;DR is removing the nose gun but giving +2 gunner seats so there is 4 gunner seats and 4 spare for passangers..
As the problem stands far too meny people use ADS for SOLO play seemingly invulnerable/unkillable yet rakeing up the kills with the nose gun.. its OP and has to go.
ps. also if ADS had 4 gun seats that would be enough for a squad of 5 to jump in on while the 6th is the loner who drops out to place an Uplink on the roof

I'd take a swap from the rof bonus to a fitting bonus, I've even suggested it elsewhere, while suggesting side turret rof should have it's own thing in the small turret skill tree... I'm on lvl 2 missile bonus and lvl 3 rail/blaster bonus... And frankly I find it less fun and less balance the more I spec into them... I'd love to be able to fit side turrets on my bus and not be in fear of someone 2 shotting me with a swarm launcher. |
