To me it seems like having the defenders start with the null cannons is a huge advantage where they can just race to say 2 out of 5 objectives with 8 people each and guarantee a win. Any mode where one team is given the better starting position in combination with the current matchmaking and people that realize these things and leave if they are on the wrong end just seems a bit disastrous to me. It is very possible that I am being a bit too pessimistic on that but I really do not think so. While the defenders have the starting advantage, the fact that defenders cannot take back any objectives once fully taken by the attackers balances this out. If defenders are only defending 2 objectives out of 5, and the attackers get the other 3 fast enough before their MCC takes too much damage, than the attackers might win on MCC damage. Also, if the defenders are protecting 2 objectives at a time, then attackers can just focus their entire team on just one objective at a time and outnumber the defenders.

Because the game had more problems than Jay-Z. Seriously, the game was buggy as all hell. But I suppose the main reason for the discontinuation of Skirmish 1.0 was due to balance.
See, the thing was that the MCC would move forward a bit and then be stopped by the relay towers and wouldn't start moving again until they were destroyed. But the thing was that they were actually destructible like any installation today. So the attacking team would always, (if they were smart) call in a rail tank or two, rush the towers down, and let the MCC just move straight on to the station to dock without ever stopping. This meant that the defenders literally could not destroy the MCC even if they held all of the null cannons for the duration of the match because the dps of the null cannons wasn't enough to bring it down in time.
Alternatively there was glitch that forced a win for the defending team.
Occasionally when you tried to call in a vehicle, the game would glitch out and send in an infinite number of whatever you called in. So what would happen was that there would be a vehicle cap consisting entirely of rail or missile tanks, the defenders would all pile in and using the powers of the tanks they would be able to shoot down the MCC even if the attackers held the null cannons. You got points for damaging the MCC too, it was nice.
Of course, that was if the game would let you finish. If you were able to get through 3 full games without having your PS3 hardlock on you, it was basically akin to finding a leprechaun riding a unicorn who has a son that is also a successful honest politician.

If by fun you mean harrowing, then yes. Those hardlocks were dangerous.I recall getting on the forums back then and occasionally hearing reports that after hardlocking, some peoples PS3s died or were damaged. And I'm not kidding when I said 3 games; it was pretty y much clockwork that if you didn't freeze on game 1 or 2, you were doomed on game 3.

I'm very concerned about the experience in a public match where nobody wants to protect an objective that isn't being fought over right now. In effect the attackers can hack all objectives uncontested until the last one or two when finally an actual fight starts. It's basically ghost-hacking the game-mode.
What do you think about having the objectives be hacked in (a potentially randomized) sequence? That way we're practically playing a Domination match where the losing team gets pushed from objective to objective instead of ending up at the red-line and having to wait it out. I like having precisely one objective to fight over at any time. That seems easy enough to figure out so even the blueberries can participate in the fight - rather than walking around the map confused while being killed at seemingly random intervals.
Other than that I'm all for bringing some new game mode variations to Dust. I still maintain that Skirmish 1.0 was very much fixable. |

Yes, I too, would like devs to address this. As long as I've been on forums, I haven't seen devs talk about new game modes. Only enhancements/changes to the ones we already have. Let's breathe some life into this game and bring on some new game modes. Hell, I will even go for zombies at this point. |

Ambush OMS could be the new game mode it just needs to have the way it's laid out addressed.
Ambush has always been an issue because of the spawn mechanics and choices of where players spawn. When you wipe your enemy team they then have to flip spawns and spawn at another location. If you then can get tanks and mercenaries on them before they fully regroup it just becomes a stompfest and ease to grind both kills and ISK.
The thing with Ambush OMS is we have the ability to really put Installations anywhere on the map.
What if we made 4-5 "Bases" per Ambush OMS map. That had 4-5 Turrets, Supply depot and a CRU. And you spawned each team in one of those bases..
Teams would then have to completely wipe out the Turret installation defenses before they could get into the base and wipe the opposing team to cause the spawn to flip.
Then? the team that got their spawn flipped spawn in another base and get's to setup and maybe have a chance and a come back or turn around.
The Way Ambush OMS is currently.. just seems like someone said at the office "I KNOW, let's have an ambush where installations spawn" And missed what amazing game modes could be made if we planned the placements and game mode around them. If players had the ability to call in structures with warpoints? this is what we would of built out of our sandbox anyway. |

It's an interesting idea for a game mode, Kage. Tbh i don't think we're going to know how it's going to play out until we try it. But it does seem clear that the team with the most AFKers loses.
One mode i would love to see come back is skirmish without MCC-to-MCC missiles, i.e. all damage coming from null cannons. That way when the match maker put us in a match with out MCC down to 20% armor it might still be worth playing.
To date, the most interesting matches i've played in DUST were the matches without MCC missiles(With the exception of skirmish 1.0, ofc).

Sounds like skirmish used to be better than it is now. I like skirmish, its at the top w the bush on the bottom, but this old skirm sounds like what someone else mentioned "rush" from battlefield. Wonder why they dumbed it down to current version? You think they got the old code lying around somewhere and can just re-implement it. |

The map would be divided up into 3-4 pieces with 2 null cannons in each and it is basically a progressive version of op idea. To advance to the next area, the attacking team must hack both null cannons but they would have say, in dusts case i'd say 50 clones per area and when/if they manage to hack both to progress to the next area then their clones would be replenshied back to 50.
The defenders would have infinite clones.
Ps. only skim read ops idea lol.
