So a bit of a question.... to all, devs feel free to chip in ;)
I think I read somewhere that each weapon in legion will have a racial varient, like the standard rifles do now (assault etc) is this true?
My point of asking this really is around concern about adding extra weapon choices in the market and fitting also adding needless complexity to the progression tree depending on how its implemented also doing this would also cause dilution of the racial stereotypes currently established in New Eden Lore....
For example a gallente blaster (or shotgun if you will) is fine... as is a Caldari one as both races use hybrid weapons... but an amar blaster? no amar ever used this type of weapon (well not unless he wanted his killmail posted all over the interwebs and people laughing at how stupid his fit was). The caldari suit would give a range bonus and the gallente one a damage bonus. If teh amar wanted a close range weapon he would choose a pulse laser based gun like the scrambler rifle. Long range he would choose the laser rifle. To act as a counterpoint to this the Gallente wearer could choose a rail rifle which would get a damage bonus in his hands but not shoot as far.
This would also encourage (further down the line) people training into different races suits and weapons like in EVE. My oldest can use every races sub capital ships and weapons pretty much and this adds versatility not having to train a racial varient of every gun, just the guns that race uses.
If this is the plan - Why are CCP moving away from the established lore. I didn't understand the reason for having the racial varients of the rifles in dust to be quite honest... In fact when I first started playing i thought i was using a minmatar weapon on my gallente character for gods sake... the assault rifle is a machine gun which is similar to minmatar in eve.
The vehicle guns have me in a mix as well... i have posted this several times... Rail gun is a longrange high damage gun which bears little resemblance to both its eve counterpart and also its in game hand held version its just not consistant. To be honest youd be better off averaging out the sniper rifle and the rail and calling it a Rail Gun. And dont get me started on the blaster.... rapid fire wtf? blaster in eve are to use against the same size or larger targets.. yet in dust they are to use against smaller? (well the small turrets are at least).
Don't try to make legion a generic shooter please Make it an EVE shooter.
Anyway there is a question in there somewhere lol before anyone trolls and says well come up with better I will try to in a later post.

I don't think that's the case. From what I see, we'll see a class of weapon having all races such as how the Minmatar have the Flay Lock, Gallente with their Ion Pistols, Amarr with their Scrambler Pistols, and Caldari with their Bolt Pistols for the sidearms. That's the general understanding I have right now.
Honestly I can't picture the Amarr ever relying on hybrid or projectile weaponry at all. They are a laser-oriented race after all.

Caldari do use blasters - the Ferox even gets bonuses to it. Lorewise, here are the weapons of choice for each race
Minmatar: Projectile, Missile Gallente: Drones, Hybrid Amarr: Laser, Drones Caldari: Missiles, Hybrid

Basically you have to assume Godin...aka Roger is not willing to accept reasonable arguments and base his opinion off fallacious generalisations reinforcing the notion he actually understand the lore of New Eden.
In actuality he doesn't and stands by this belief even in the face of lore evidence and in game items and EVE lopedia summaries items.

I said nothing about manufacturing =ƒÿè and caldari can use blasters or rails just the bonuses affect the guns differently. My point being that there should need to be a racial variant of each gun

EDIT: Your last bit made absolutely ******* 0 sense Look for any Caldari Industrialist who produces and sells blasters in Caldari Space...... BAM Caldari Produce Blasters. You know damn well that counts zero. Doesn't matter who the manufacturers are, fact is that Caldari use blasters - the Ferox even gets bonuses to it. Lorewise, here are the weapons of choice for each race Minmatar: Projectile, Missile Gallente: Drones, Hybrid Amarr: Laser, Drones Caldari: Missiles, Hybrid Weapons in Dust and Legion should follow the same logic when it makes sense. EDIT: clarified my thoughts that manufacturing isn't the key factor.
1: The Ferox gets bonuses to optimal range, not blasters. You could have made the case that optimal range helps blasters more than Rails (a load of bullshit), but that doesn't really help blasters much at all (why it's a load of bullshit), and tracking or falloff (blasters actual problems) are solved by Gallente's gun boat bonuses, which is more damage, better falloff, and better tracking (because usually people say **** it and use AM rounds anyways?).
2: This Entire argument is about manufacturing and manufacturers (the reason why Caldari should or shouldn't get blasters, which you guys are losing due to little/no logic being used). What in the god given **** are you talking about?

Yes, you did. This is from your OP. did you not check over your own OP? Caldari has not yet made a signle blaster for our creation and use, and I highly doubt they ever will. They will use them? Yes. Make them? No. Every Race uses cloaks. Caldari made cloaks. Does that mean everyone makes their own ****** ripoff? No. |

If you quote in context you will find that I said.. I had heard that there were to be racial variant of each weapon in legion. And yes the cloaks are racial ripoffs of tech stolen from pirates at a live eve event originally.

Railguns + Missiles = Caldari
Blasters = Gallente
Lasers = Amarr
Projectiles + Missiles = Minmatar
The in-game weapons are correct in terms of lore. Only problem with them are the sound effects. The Gallente Assault Rifle sounds too much like a normal projectile weapon. Back in the 2012 Fanfest showcase, the Assault Rifle had a more fitting sound effect. Don't know why it was removed.

In EVE, the only reason Caldari and Gallente ships can use both Railguns and Blasters is because they need long and short range roles. Blasters and Railguns have an obvious difference in appearance too.

The whole op is against proliferation of racial variants not promoting it.
1: iirc, that live event featured a cloak that wasn't the same as the one we have now. The Caldari took the tech, and made it into the ones we use now.
2: Why do all of you hate reading? [quote=Roger Cordill

Read the entire post before you yell at someone like they're an idiot.
3: Caldari and Gallente both have bonuses for blasters and rails not because they need both long and short range things (drones covers the long range for Gallente, and Rockets/HAM's/torps, cit torps covers Caldari's short range. It's just that Caldari and Gallente both get bonuses for hybrids. ANd really, Caldari's bonuses don't really help Caldari ships use blasters; in fact, Caldari ships with blasters is usually quite silly compared to a Gallente ship with blasters.
4: You've still yet to explain wtf you're talking about in the rest of your OP. |

Tell me Gallente don't use Railguns now? Will look for State Blasters.
I've already stated several times that Gallente uses rails. I have a ship with Fed NAvy rails (which imo are much better than the state rails, probably due them being better in closer ranges). You're way off.
Oh, and I'd love to see state rails, as I've never seen them. They surely aren't ingame for our use, and there's no named one that has anything to do with Caldari ingame.
EDIT: You say I don't understand it, and yet you say that a REALLY tiny possibility, which can be argued by a simple explanation that it used very commonly in like everywhere, even in the lore, and yet refuses to take ingame evidence, by both proof of no items existing, and on top of that, no hulls or frames in both games to support them (hybrid damage bonus isn't enough, and optimal range doesn't help a blaster, as getting a extra km doesn't really help you.) |
