They cater purely to the vets really.
And just when the enemy looks to be fighting back and there's a decent gunfight, an orbital is dropped and basically finishes the match.
I hate to admit this but its just not necessary and its just a cheap I win button.
Literally as soon as there's a decent gunfight, someone drops and ob.
I played about 50 ambushes yesterday.
We lost 4-5 matches, if that.
Everytime the enemy fought back, an orbital p!ssed in their cornflakes and a lot of players in ambush are newbs.
There's really no need for it and I have never seen a newb squad get that game changing ob ever, us vets get them within a minute roughly because we are brutally efficient.
It never works for the newbs. It just ends the match quicker for us vets.
We cloned 1 game at 11.47 timer..........
What are everyone else's thoughts?.

Here's how it is:
People can either drop them or save them. Save for prototype vs militia. Sure, the proto users can get off the crutch, but where's the fun in that when they can suffer a massive stomp without that gear? They, too, have that choice.

Honestly, the game's reached the end of its life cycle. There's nothing that can be done except wait out the inevitable.
Here's how it actually is.
With what's happened, dust will require a re download with every content update so right now the current balance issues are getting sorted first.
Rattati explains in another thread himself so go check that out, I can't remember which one.
And concerning choice, dust has shown 0 integrity in making the 'right' choice. Everything so far has been farmed and exploited beyond ridiculous. This shows that people generally cannot handle choice but its not all the players fault.......apparently.

OB's in ambush OMS would help with tanks. I understand completely about the OB's in ambush because I had two dropped on me in the same match. I think it's kind of ridiculous, and at that point I generally just quit or usually just stop spawning.

The games literally go like this more often than not.
We spawn.
We spawn camp newbs.
We follow to the next spawn about 30 metres away.
We spawn camp them.
We get an orbital.
We drop it on them.
We clear out those gimps that actually run and hide.
The orbitals just make it worse and sometimes they really fight back but we just ob them and end the game quicker.
Even if its an even match, the OBS aren't needed as it just kills the gunfight.

OB'S are a direct punishment for blob warfare which happends now again more frequently in ambush. I allways love to drop a OB on a group of 10 heavys. |

I actually agree that War Barge strikes have no place in Ambush. WP for OBs is already a pretty bad "win more" system but in Ambush where the primary objective is to kill and not hold points it is even worse.

The WP cost of OBs is far too low as well. Up that OB cost up to 4k and you would see less OBs before the end of match.
I don't disagree though, OBs don't really have a place in Ambush. |

get them alot for our side but why?
The thing about Ambush is; Once one side is wiped... they will never get a full 16 mercenaries back on the battlefield in an effective manner again, mostly due to spawn mechanics.
And the Orbitals cater to the stomping and uncompetitive matches and eventual boredom. |

I don't disagree though, OBs don't really have a place in Ambush.
Its just a cheap shtty way to further make the match one sided.

I will only say this - Warbarge strikes need seriously higher WP requirements. They are much to easy to farm these days.
Increase the WP needed by a thousand or even two thousand more. |

Increasing it only makes it harder for newbs and still a guarantee for us vets.
It should just be removed from infantry ambush i believe.
You can either raise the wp so its basically vet exclusive or make it so high that MAYBE a vet will get it but there's no chance a newb will.
On a slightly nostalgic note, dont yoou just miss when everyone in the squad would be like "OB! omg!"

I can literally farm 1000 wp alone within less than two mins with my hives, links, rep tool and injector set up.
Not even farming either, just playing the game and getting orbitals.
Raising the wp cost will further push it into vets only territory.
they should just be removed from regular ambush.

Sounds really cool but my mlt gear with my passives is as good as adv almost. You might want to propose that passives are de activated in this mlt ambush, maybe even have a vr training simulator that never ends etc?.

Why limit it to Ambush, the same factors are even worse in Dominatiin. The whole OB strike system favors stomping.

The 2500 wp threshold is too low for a 6 man squad. It was set that way from back when squads were smaller. It's 625 sp each for a 4 man squad...this could be coupled for 2 extra players adding 1250 for the threshold.

Someone mentioned dom having alternating objectives during the match.
If done right then it would remove camping.

I'm still in favor of having them kill players from both teams, no matter the game mode.
Orbitals are a far worse problem in dom because any squads just spam orbitals onto the objective.

This thread has nothing to do with dom mate.
the issue is that we are literally just farming newbs in between occasionally fighting each other in bush.
the newbs begin to fight back and we just ob them.
Or we just go from spawn camp to spawn camp farming them and then drop an ob right at the end to finish them off. It is almost systematic lol.
in many cases its 'who gets the ob first wins'. theres also the morale degradation that comes from being obed and newbs have little while facing proto anyway.

theres been many times when they fight back and gain ground but by that point, almost every time, someone is already crouching in a corner and i have my rep tool on them ready for guardians.
ambush should be straight gun play but keep the obs in OMS.

My major issue with Orbitals is that the WP from them COUNT TOWARDS THE NEXT ORBITAL! If there was a way for CCP to put in a filter that still allows for the WP's but those points do not count towards another orbital, I would not have nearly the issue with them I do now. I think the highest I've ever seen for a single Orbital is 10. That is 500 WP right there, 1/5 of the way to the next orbital. With a 5 person squad, this means 400 WP a person to the next one (I know that's versus 500, but that's not the point).

Then finally split them up as two distinct modes making it:
Skirmish
Domination
Ambush OMS
Ambush
And we are golden, I bet we would see some amazing competitive fights in Ambush if this change is made.
