My best is still 43/2 with adv cal scout and CRW. I couldn't find anymore reds to kill the last few mins of the match. Gun control is not about guns...it's about control. I think the truth is you're a heavy and hate the fact that a proto shotgun can 1 shot you... and you're probably a bad heavy who doesn't know his role so you die to even militia shotties cause you aren't doing what youre supposed to do. shotguns are supposed to be the king of CQC, and they aren't quite, because of bad hit detection, which at one point seemed fix, but now not so much... my dren shotty with a 3% dmg mod takes 3 hits on a heavy to kill... unless its a minmitar, then, 2. a proto can pretty much kill any heavy but a proto with one shot... as it should be....but you're not supposed to let them get that close...and that's the shotguns limitation.... range.... this is what you call "balance" and the shotgun (minus hit detection issues) is the most balanced weapon in the game.

Cloak isn't good to have up in combat (if you want to avoid combat thats different) so decloaking in urban environments and using range amps is a much more effective combo. Shotgun is about having situational awareness and map knowledge. So a vet with a MLT shotgun in an urban environment can be highly effective. Cloaks are great, but they are much better used for hauling ass over long exposed distances. They actually combo much better with long range weapons. Turrent - the sound a tankers pants makes when he finds out the four swarm militia doing squats around him aren't AFK.

Quick question, OP--were you using a cloak? If so, I'd say that counts for a lot. Also, with 50m+ SP and presumably most cores and proficiencies maxed or close to it, you running basic gear is equivalent to someone with very little SP running proto gear (which is obviously impossible), so you outcompete at least 50% of reds in any match anyway based on that alone. I mean, I went 37/4 the other day running solo with an advanced ScR fit, but I was playing a bunch of t@rds, so it's not that special. Oh, wait--it must be OP because I "brick tanked" my scout to a whopping 600 eHP. IMO, the ScR (after the HMG, which is a small vehicle weapon that for some reason heavies can equip) is the most OP weapon in the game. Good thing most people are afraid too of semi-auto to find this out, so it will remain that way.
