Say what you like to say, but the PS3 is just as dead as Dust is. It's just no longer a practical platform for realizing the Eve universe Dust tried to aim for.

+ Same team of devs. I don't know what the executive director has envisioned, but I do hope they do more than simple just port old ideas and codes into Legion.

Having watched their "dust 514" presentations and from probably more play time then all their devs combined I can say they do not truly grasp where they went wrong and are looking to mess up all over again. Ironically many in this community could explain to them their mistakes if they would only listen.

Doesn't appear that they have yet.
And why are PC gamers so determined to explain the deficiencies of the PS3? Most if not all of the console gamers new that the PS3 was a dead end we were hoping that the CCP would make a move to the PS4 which is substantially more powerful and flexible.
Yes PC's can be far more powerful, if you are willing to pay for it, and continue to pay for upgrades for evermore.
Off topic - Why are the legion fans assuming that it will be free to play with micro transactions funding the game. I am not sure how successful that has been in Dust. You may find that Legion may be subscription based or some other form of revenue stream involved.
You do not have to be crazy to play here but we are willing to train you.

On PC you can release patches as quickly as you can make and test them. On console you have to submit every little thing to Sony and let their QA sort it out before proceeding.
With PC, problems could be hotfixed in days, rather than weeks.

I agree. The problems were not with the PS3 themselves but the fact that I honestly don't think CCP wanted to do anything on the PS3. It is cute and cool to say "we are the first to link a PC game and a console game!" but then you actually have to do it. I don't think CCP wanted to really. This is just based on the fact that Legion had half the developers working on a separate PC game in secret. No one can play DUST and say that it is optimized in anyway. Try this. Turn your PS3 on to another game and leave the room for 20 minutes. Come back and see no problem. Do that with DUST and your machine will be stuttering and running like a toaster.
Would CCP have been better off not wanting to innovate for the sake of innovating and just had DUST on the PC from the beginning? Yes. The problem is that this pregnancy was allowed to go full term. If they were planning on killing the PS3 version of DUST, they probably shouldn't have waited until it was in a crib.

LOL, you do realize that a ton of minor things... like the HMG and commando HP change, can be done without going through sony right? You know why they can do this.. it is because those are server side adjustments that do not require a patch.
Also, CCP has proven that they need someone to check their code before they deploy, or have you forgotten about boot.ini, melting motherboards, bricking Ps3s and whatnot?
Also the patching process was never the problem in Dust development, it was the shoddy code written by CCP.

Oh but I forgot... PC will fix this.... (god some of you just know nothing) You forgot to mention code that is so messed up the entire console freezes. That does seem to be corrected now though, last couple times i played for multiple hours it did not freeze. Where before it would freeze at least every hour. |

With PC, problems could be hotfixed in days, rather than weeks. Honestly with how bad CCP programs they really should hire an outside firm to check their code before releasing. I am betting that when legion comes out that there will be multiple times where ccp releases a patch that bugers the whole pc. |

If they were planning on killing the PS3 version of DUST, they probably shouldn't have waited until it was in a crib.
I also think they didn't really understand the implications of linking the huge and complex economy of EVE to the comparatively tiny one of DUST. That's why, even after two years, there's no (official) way to transfer ISK or assets from EVE to DUST. Because if there was, even with massive tax rates, anyone with even a moderately successful EVE character could make it so that grinding money in DUST was pointless. I mean in EVE, I can easily earn 50 million ISK in an hour. In DUST, I've been grinding for months, and only have about 25 million ISK.
And I don't see how that is going to be any different in Legion (or even Valkyrie). Whether Legion is successful as a FPS or not, is moot. But I'm willing to bet, even at this stage, that the EVE-Legion interactions will be just as trivial as they are with DUST.

Oh but I forgot... PC will fix this.... (god some of you just know nothing) Great point, in fact the bugs will be much worse on pc as there is no common architecture. Even the best PC developer in the world always lets some bugs through simply because they can only test and optimize a tiny proportion of hardware /OS combinations. Ive never played a pc game that hasnt crashed, chugged far more than it should for my build (think of ps2 if you have the 'wrong' cpu brand), etc. For all its strengths (the unlimited power, kb/m, etc) this is just a fact of life with PC. So buggy as dust ps3 is, the bugs will be multipled on pc |

Well actually, these items on the list -are- PS3 related as they stated in the Q&A section of one of the presentations.
However, many of the core mechanics and design concepts may very well be attributed to the company's development standards.
Also I actually am quite fine with the voice comms capabilities in Dust, have you played other games with voice support? Take GTA5 Online, one of the biggest releases in the gaming industry in the past few years and it's voice quality is utter crap.

The op's point is that dust pc (legion) will fail for the same reasons that dust ps3 did. So they are taking your supposed counterpoint (dust on ps3 is dead) as their starting point. |

This is why I laugh at all the fools clamouring for character transfers. The biggest thing that was wrong with Dust was its idiot progression system that puts new players at such a massive disadvantage to any vets.
So either CCP is going to get a clue and fix this and the fanboys clutching at their SP life raft are going to $hit napalm, OR, CCP are going to go jelly-spine and design these same stupidities into Legion thereby causing it to be an abject failure again.

CCP IS pushing the PS3 to the max - They max they can achieve.

Top development houses took years to understand how to work with the PS3, and by the time CCP manages to do that, the PS3 will already be obselete. Sony has bent over backwards to help CCP, they even allowed CCP to break rules that they have about PSN. At this point in the life of the PS3 the middleware tools are outstanding.
The problem is simply put, cheap chinese labor. Zipper was not a large studio, and by no means was it Sony's A-listers. As stated by the devs, they heartily modified just about every part of the UE3 engine, and they did this with the absolute cheapest labor they could find in china.
No, CCP is running un-optimized code on the PS3 because at heart they are PC programmering company , and as such are just horrible coders. (want proof, go look at how many times CCP has had to re-write eve's base code.
