When EVE: Legion was revealed, I had conflicted feelings. On one hand, it's what I've always wanted. On the other hand, it seemed like Dust 514 was being abandoned entirely. I've had some time to reflect on EVE: Legion and what it means for Dust 514, and I've come to a conclusion.
EVE: Legion... doesn't seem so bad, even if it's not perfect. I'll list my reasons for coming to that conclusion.
1. Is CCP abandoning Dust 514? Not quite. Looking over the information provided, it seems that Dust 514 isn't going to be abandoned. Assuming that CCP is honest about Legion becoming an open-world FPS, which Dust is not, it's not unreasonable to infer that Legion is not replacing Dust. Rather, Dust 514 will remain as a lobby-based shooter whereas EVE: Legion will use more EVE-like concepts, such as asymmetrical warfare, player-run industry and open-world gameplay.
To be honest, I'm somewhat disappointed with that idea as this means that Dust 514 is not likely to have these concepts, or at least will not have as many of them. However, there are some who enjoy Dust 514's current mechanics, so I can't really say for certain whether this is a bad thing without being heavily subjective.
2. Are you losing money and progress? Maybe, but probably not. Some have voiced concerns that they will lose their progress, and thus money they spent on said progress, in Dust 514 if and when they emigrate to EVE: Legion. This is an understandable concern. However, CCP has promised that if EVE: Legion is released that all characters and assets (possibly excluding BPOs as you know them, as CCP has stated that Dust 514 BPOs are at odds with their desired open-world vision) will be copied over from Dust 514. As such, you will not lose any money or progress, even if you do transfer over, with the possible exception of BPOs which will likely be reimbursed in some way.
3. Console gamers don't get to experience EVE: Legion. I cannot debate this claim. It is certainly true that you cannot play a PC game without a PC. However, owning a PC is a pretty common thing and you have no one to blame if you prioritize buying a game console over buying or upgrading to a moderately capable PC. Not trying to be rude here, but them's the facts.
4. I wasted my money buying a PS3 just so I could play Dust 514! This is an outrage! I have a confession to make. I, like some others, bought a PS3 mostly so I could play Dust 514. Am I upset? Not really. Firstly, buying a console solely to play a specific game is a really bad idea and there's really no reason to be upset at someone else for it. Secondly, after I bought my PS3 I ended up using it to play other games in addition to Dust 514, because otherwise it would be a waste. Don't blame CCP alone for your wasteful spending.
5. Do you like the way Dust 514 is, but hate that progress will now slow? Well, I'm not really sure how that feels, but I suppose slow progress is never a good thing. Don't worry, though, Dust 514 is not going anywhere anytime soon, so even if the progress is slow you can still enjoy the game as it is. This is probably the most legitimate complaint I can think of, so even though I don't feel too bad about it I sympathize with you.
Well, that's all I can really say for now, assuming CCP is being totally honest here. But don't feel too bad. Maybe in the future CCP will port EVE: Legion to consoles. Also remember that EVE: Legion isn't set-in-stone, CCP isn't completely sure whether they'll go through with it or not. If you really don't want EVE: Legion to be implemented as it is, you can always tell CCP that. Just be reasonable, please. Don't condemn it before you understand it.

EVE: Legion is certainly not as bad of an idea as it's being made out to be.
I'm still disappointed that Dust 514 will be neglected, though. Well, the PS3 was a dead console anyway. |

Take 1 min and google the two following phrases
Digital spy + dust 514
Polygon + dust 514
CCP confirms, direct quotes from the VP, dust is dead, it will receive no more updates. Dust was a complete failure and they can no longer support it. Their team has been removed from dust and are laser focused on legion. |

Best case scenario. They could just can the game and be done with trying to expand EVE universe. They instead took it to a platform that didnt restrain them with bullshit outdated hardware.

Honestly I was expecting the PS3 to be almost irrelevant in 2 years tops and that's being optimistic.

CCP has already stated that EVE: Legion is just an concept they came up with and were considering implementing, like EVE: Valkyrie. People liked the idea of EVE: Valkyrie, so it became an official thing. If people don't like the idea of EVE: Legion, they probably won't do it. I read what he wrote. I've read 10-12 articles about it. They will no, Sony owns the data.. They said they "want to" but they actually won't do it.
Why would they?! Build a game then give a select few players a 50m SP head start, wtth BPO's nope. Not going to happen ever. They want people to start even and buy boosters.
Now if they take even one piece of data, say someone's total AUR and reward them in legion, then Sony will sue them. They will not take it and they will blame sony as ax excuse, instead of just saying what we all know.
One guy said we are working on it but its unlikely due to their sony agreement, one guy said they will and then their CEO and VP said its being discussed and that it probably won't happen. Now I've read the two polygon articles and the two game ones, it seems that legion will not reward dust players for a few more "excuses". One, they will not kill dust completely so they will argue you can still use the game. And two, they said legion is a fresh start in the evolution and a fresh start means everyone at 0.
The choice is be sued and get 5% of dust guys to PC and lose money from boosters and get PC users mad because they are put at a disadvantage. OR They can say we want to, we tried, but sony wouldn't let us, now come buy boosters at legion.
Which one you think will happen? Based on what their VP says, there will be 0 chance of a transfer. Based on the legal and CCP money problems, they won't want it or can't afford to pay sony for data rights cause they lost 20$m last year.
Face it, you've been tricked. Face it, CCP is in damage control mode and their underlings are lying to cover up negative opinions about legion and CCP being linked to dust 514 backlash, |

Quote:Earlier today at the CCP Presents keynote presentation, CCP took the opportunity to respond to fears and complaints that have surfaced on the DUST 514 community forum. The official word is that DUST 514 isn't being shuttered and that development will continue, but CCP admitted that it will have less development time going forward. A promise was also made that if Legion goes ahead, the names and assets of every DUST player will be copied over to the new title. |

I swear, some of you guys either do. It or can not read. The developers of dust 514 have been working on legion for 6 months. CCP ask given legion all the developers that were working on dust and said now they are laser focused and all hands on deck for legion. Read the quotes, read the articles on digital spy and polygon about dust being done and you can see there is no reason to have items/sp transferred. It causes more problems than the 5% of players it makes happy.
LEGION IS NOT A CONCEPT, ITS BEEN IN DEVELOPMENT FOR 6 MONTHS. HARDLY AN IDEA, ITS A 100% FULLY BEING DEVELOPED PROJECT.
I swear, you hear one CPM say something and you think his views are more important than what the VP of CCP said. Dust is dead, face it.
Here is transcript:
PCGN: Your blog post on the Dust website described Project Legion as "the experience we've all dreamt of". What I'm trying to get at is whether Project Legion is replacing Dust 514 as the FPS experience you guys want to make.
JCG: Well it's tough to say "replacing" today. Today we have [in Dust] a really strong product out live and doing well, while Project Legion is still in early development. Personally I find that, yes, [Project Legion] will complete that [Dust 514] vision, the vision of being on the ground in a first-person experience in EVE. It would absolutely complete and realise that vision.
PCGN: And that's not something you could do with Dust?
JCG: As I've described it a few times, it would be a bit like changing the engine of a plane in flight. Such severe changes to an already live experience, that's what triggered the development of Project Legion.
Ok, we know he is lying because CCP said its been 6 months in development. Months is 6. Hardly recent. Also, changing engine of a plane mid flight is terrible but true. Legion is replacing dust because dust failed and they are going to abandon ship.
Now if you want i can get you copy pastes of the fresh start, evolution, new beginning stuff too.

Yea: http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/3/5677566/Dust-514-project-legion-reaction
Here is what is going to happen:
"I ran DICE for awhile, and the first shooter game out of DICE was a game called Codename Eagle, which tons of people donGÇÖt know anything about, and never would, and probably shouldnGÇÖt," he told Polygon. "I think it sold like 20,000 units and got a 50 Metacritic, maybe a 40, something like that. It was horrible, and at the end of the day, teams usually have to do multiple iterations of something to get to something really great."
Or
And if people are like, GÇÿyou know what, thanks for all the fish and weGÇÖve moved,GÇÖ then we wonGÇÖt. ItGÇÖs as simple as that, and I think itGÇÖs true for any game service."

"That's the risk of coming in early into Project Legion, but we're not good at keeping secrets away from our consumers," he explained.
Or you can go watch the youtube video in skill trees, where the guy off camera says they have transferred the team and are laser focused on legion.. Which team did they move, the dust team.

3 - This is a console game. It started as a console game, and it needs to continue as a console game. Expecting a console community to buy a PC to play what they were promised on consoles is absurd.
There's only one to blame - CCP
6 - You are overestimating CCP's ability to ban cheaters. There are rage hackers, the type that will turn on aimbot, speed, whatever and absolutely massacre a sever. Those are the cheaters that get banned
Another type is the closet cheater, they just have simple stuff like wallhack, and they make sure to die a few times so they won't be suspicious. The second type is much harder to detect, and most players don't even know they played with one.

So stop your lies. CCP stated otherwise about the data transfer. they didn't. they said 'applicable skills and items'. that can mean almost anything, or nothing. i'll give you two guesses. It means that the game has different systems. You can't just translate SP, ISK and Aurum, because it will all be different in EVE Legion. They have to figure out how to compensate players in a way that makes sense.
They explained that very clearly.
Also, some Sony guys were at FanFest and the decision to allow character transfers was done on the spot, at FanFest.
Guinea Dust Bunnies are watching you, CCP Rouge.

Look,
If you read a few of the CPM and what they say happened in their round table or even listened to what rouge and others said at fan fest you know there is a lot of backing off of the dust killing and legion is a brand new game and will start fresh.
They said they want to start new and cannot cause their data is owned by Sony and they would have to make deal with sony for its rights. Logi bro sounded more negative to this idea, and said it wouldn't be likely but they will try.
Now what the vp CEO and other dev's have said is that legion is a fresh start, a way to break away from the failures of dust and start a new evolution. It doesn't make financial sense, or sense as a developer to reward dust characters. Dust was just a beta and a proof of concept for legion, sorry to say it.
They made a bad game, and are getting off a sinking ship before failure and CCP are linked forever. Also, legion was going to be free for all eve subscribers which sounds good, but does that mean its a pay system... That also is being round table discussed due to negative feedback might be forcing them u to F2P again.
There's no reason to reward dust players, there's no reason to begin a brand new game with a few select players at 50m SP.. This legion game is for eve players, not console players. It will be an even playing field and CCP will make money off people buying boosters and not cheap asses like me who have 23m SP and never spent a single cent. They don't want to reward me and my freeloading, and now i enter legion with ad advantage over their paying eve customers, its a recipe for disaster.
So, apart from rouge going into damage mode and lying to various companies... The truth is legion is a brand new game and will not be a continuation of dust and stand alone. It's not in their interest to transfer and they will use the sony has the rights to data excuse as the reason, and everyone will take their word for it. |

Hmm, so yea. I can tell you IMO dust will be a beta testing ground for their ideas. But dust is dead, they will have no one working on it, they will have no one playing it, no one is going to play a game that is going to be killed once their sony agreement is over. Legion will be released asap, probably q1 or 2 next year. Dust is dead.
What does he say, like dust was a failure and they need to start fresh and focus on legion and the new evolution of eve. THEY BASICALLY CALL IT AN AIRPLANE THST IS GOING TO CRASH. Yup, sounds promising to me.
Failure, crashing airplane, bad engine, no dev team, failure, we will see, we are discussing many things... Yup, they are gonna give you everything cause they care about you, they care about your money only. |

Dust is dead. It's an airplane without an engine. CCP is going to cut bait asap and legion will be their new dust, but it wont be called dust or associated with dust.
If you read the interviews the VP constsntly says, its different but we are gonna make it how we wanted to make dust. It's not different at all, they need to separate themselves from the failed dust 514 so they are making excuses and distancing by saying dumb things like its the same game but better lol |

Ulysses Knapse wrote:When EVE: Legion was revealed, I had conflicted feelings.
6. Aimbots won't be a big deal. They just won't. If you use an aimbot, CCP will find you and they will ban you and your character and assets will be lost. It's not like other FPS games where you can find another server to play on and where your characters and assets don't matter. Even if you create a new account, you won't get your ISK, skills or items back. Legitimately skilled players with enhanced gear and mad skillpointz can and will outdo aimbots, because aimbots can and will be banned regularly.
I'd love to see skilled players outplay this level of hacking, and I'd love to see the hacker themselves care if their free account is banned.

GÇ£[It's] a new approach to being a mercenary on the ground,GÇ¥ CCP chief executive Hilmar Veigar P+¬tursson told news website Eurogamer in an interview. GÇ£ItGÇÖs almost that experience made anew.GÇ¥
During the Dust 514 keynote at Fan Fest, CCP emphasized that Project Legion is not a port of the PS3 shooter to PC (which it didnGÇÖt talk much about other than to say an unspecified number of players are still enjoying). It is, instead, an entirely new GÇ£projectGÇ¥ that takes what the developers learned from producing the first title to make a new sandbox-style shooter that puts players into the role of a mercenary. The word GÇ£projectGÇ¥ is important, because CCP wasnGÇÖt definitive about whether it will release the game.
Ok, they said it was only a concept. That's untrue or else they wouldn't have been sending developers to do it for 6 months and then said they were laser focused on it so as to make their dust team solely laser focused on it. They aren't stupid, legion was planned and has been in the making and has been the goal for at least 6 months.
Next, CCP says that legion is totally different and if dust 514 is not shut down why would you be able to port your SP?!? No, what they want is you to use your user name as an eve user name, so you feel attached to eve. Dust is dead, they just want you to have a shinny new legion account and start fresh opinion their fancy new PC game. Project legion is dust 2.0 without the advantages you can carry over.
Their Vp seems like dust is such a failure it's not worth knowing about it, he marks remarks about not knowing its player numbers and how it's such a failure but its a good failure because they will do better on PC and leave the console failure players out in the cold. |

Oh, how about their will be one character for eve, legion, and Valkyrie. That doesn't include dust. It also include Valkyrie which is suppose to be on a different platform, so saying dust isnt included because its ps3 is wrong |

Sony is no longer a problem. They literally cut a deal at FanFest, they announced it a couple of hours after they got confirmation from Sony. And where is this info coming from?? heard nothing what so ever about Sony & CCP coming to a deal CPM. After all the **** and lies IWS & co have been saying for months upon months I wouldnt believe a word any CPM has to say Not IWS, Hans Jagerblitzen.
Actually it might have been Aeon Amadi, I don't remember by now.

Okay, they transferred their development team. So what? That doesn't mean it won't be supported. They could have made a new development team, or have Dust 514 be a sort of side project. In one of the articles you yourself linked it said that Dust 514 would continue to be supported. So either CCP is lying, or you're a little too fond of making assumptions.
2. Sony stores the account data (and maybe the character data), yes, but that doesn't mean it can't be transferred.
3. They do not say Dust 514 is a crashing plane. No one would ever say something that stupid about their own MMO.

There's also a questionnaire being passed around at fan fest, according to people there. The options are about how much would they pay for legion and would they take an increase in subscription fee on top of their eve accounts oh say 5$ a month.
So while its up in the air, they wanted it as a pay system but who knows what they will decide to do now. You think console free to play players are going to pay to play legion?! Not in a million years are the okay station, a free to play system online are going to leave buy a gaming PC and pay a monthly fee. |

According to the a twitch subscriber on the eve forum pages the out rage in a round table open discussion got so much "revolt" about possible dust cancelling for legion next year that they killed the twitch feed. I dont know if this is true ur the eve playe responses are ones of laughter about the incident and ones of laughter about how dust is done and legion is PC king |

Well, even if they do cancel Dust 514, EVE: Legion would probably use a lot of the same assets. Wouldn't want all that progress on Dust 514 to go to waste, after all, and Sony might own the account and character data but CCP most certainly owns the actual programming assets for Dust 514. I don't even view EVE: Legion as a separate game, but merely the continuation of Dust 514's original concept on a much more well-suited platform.

Hey, i watched the feeds, i read the quotes on day one.
Then i read how CCP is in full damage mode, protecting their investment until legion can be released.
I'm simply taking some quotes by their VP, taking what I saw and heard in the dust fan rest stream during the question period when the dev off camera said they are not focused on dust anymore. And if you read what their VP said about the game in his quotes, they are clearly killing the game just not until their agreement runs out.
Sony owns the data, CCP has bought character info ration and naming rights is the rumour from fan fest, CCP wants to have it all in one account, makes sense.
But if you want to apply some logic + what they said about how great of a failure dust was and how its a failing plane without a he working engine.. You can see the writing is on the wall. CCP is just in damage mode and lying to keep players buying boosters and AUR in dust until they can get legion developed. But make no mistake about it, dust developers have been assigned to legion and it should be released q1-2 of next year.
They are just trying to save face and they keep saying we are going to try and we are going to see what we can do... If you want to apply logic and again, add their quotes and what they are saying to these publications it is very clear. Legion is not dust, they are going away from a failed game and will be starting fresh.
They arent going to give former dust players advantages, you think eve players deserve 1000b ISK cause thats what they have in eve?? Never. They arent going to transfer sp because of competitive advantage and it would be counter productive to them making money. New money needs to flow and boosters are that new money. Dusters with 40-50m SP arent going to buy boosters, arent going to make CCP money.
Also, dust is a free game and legion questionnaires at fan fest suggest legion will not be. Maybe it will be free for eve subscribers but even then some questionnaire questions are asking how much extra would eve players pay for legion add on... That's discouraging.
So whatever you said day 1, and now are in damage mode day 2.. I'll take your day 1 thoughts as what you really wanted to do and the fact that day 2 they used the words... We are discussing that, we will see, we are working with our community... Those are lies, they are just lowering backlash towards them by saying they are considering this. |

No question period were, and he talks about round tables and how they have discussions about things. He keep saying round tables were discussions and now cements and Will change.. But if you look at sabre and what Logi bro and other CPM were told about legion months ago. Logi bro and sabre been posting about things discussed in these round tables.
People know far more than they are saying, and they said the wrong things day 1 and are covering their asses day 2.. Even though their VP calls dust a failure and they want to focus on legion instead. Yup, whatever rouge and his fellow guys say now dont change what their VP said before, dust is done its going to die and legion will be there to catch you with your character name and account details already there to make you have an emotional attachment. |

CCP doesn't normally make public mistakes like they did at fan fest, they under estimated the backlash and are in damage control mode. Its more reasonable to assume their op day 1 ideas and original bad ideas were what they wanted to do. The second day lets cater to you a bit and get your player info and account to eve world, is just an effective way to connect users from dust to eve and appease them.
But providing a new game, a new evolution of a game and then giving dust players 40-50m SP advantages is crazy. It's not a level playing field and eve and new players to legion will be furious.
The first post i saw after was a CPM saying don't be mad most sequels do not carry over SP and since legion isnt a sequel but a different game completely, or an evolution as CCP puts it. Then you cannot expect or you don't deserve one. Now i was mad, told him there are many games which carry over progression.
But from what CCP said and what makes sense, they will have everyone start at stage 1 together. It makes more sense to their game, makes more sense money wise, and wont upset legion player base.
Enter new game at 400k SP, get stomped by 1000 dust players with SP ranging from 10-40m. Meta level bullshit aside, it's about the fitting and the access to more the more SP you have. If you saw the skill tree, you can see the bullshit you will have to weed through to run what you want and run ideal fits. No one is going to believe, or should believe what CCP says today. It was about their original plans to get off the airplane without an engine and jump into PC and legion will be that jump.
Dust will die a slow, buggy death. Legion will rise from its ashes thanks to the dust team of developers. Legion will be everything dust was, and dust will be literally dust.
Say what you want about CCP today, but CCP IS BACKTRACKING DUE TO NEGATIVE REACTION. They wanted someone one way and aren't going to compromise at the risk of losing profits. |
