CCP, I defend you guys on most things. I think Dust is great and has the potential to be one of the best shooters of all time. But I have to be completely honest, THE NEW PLAYER EXPERIENCE SUCKS
I have gotten a decent handful of people to try this game. I regret to say almost none of them are having fun. That's even after I give them all a complete 1 on 1 tutorial on suit fittings, and dump truck loads of AE. ISK on them to get them started, which most players certainly don't get.
You should be able to just hop into a game and have fun. Not hop into a game and have to cross your fingers that the Proto-Stomp squad will happen to be on your team this match.
Even veterans need to realize, it probably wasn't this bad when you started. This game was much easier when the majority of the player base was still learning.
Now the Dust player base has gravitated into two groups of players: The die-hards, and the die-oftens (thats an amazingly accurate quote from someone else on the forums, if it was you, feel free to take credit!)
This is no more urgent issue than this right now!
There are things we can do about it.
Auto Squad SIMULATION MODE
These are two things I would like to see that would help with this.
I love the Tier system in Dust, I think it's a great unique element that no other shooter has. But there needs to be a place where new players are safe from that for the first little while. Simulation would be a mode where players earn 50% ISK and SP, and can only use starter fits.
Auto Squad would help players learn the game much faster, and have a better time doing it.
Ambush also needs a drastic overhaul.
- Remove orbitals
- Remove vehicles
- Reduce squad size to 4
Playing Dust is like climbing a ladder. Only there are no handholds at the bottom, and a bunch of jerks are already at the top crapping on the bottom.

What is this with reducing squad size in ambush? Squads are created before any battle is even queued into. So if I have a 6 man squad set up for ambush and skirmish, would the other two just be kicked out?
What's the problem with 6- man squads in ambush anyways?

The idea is to limit the effectiveness of a proto-stomp squad. Replacing 2 proto stoppers with blueberries would make a huge difference to a team. There needs to be a mode that is safer for people to hop into without a squad

Number 1 effective way to reduce proto stomps is to eliminate PC gained isk (passive farmville tm).
Number 2 effective way, fail connect all players to the TQ server as what happened yesterday.

I've been playing this game on and off since the beta when people could get in through the Dust space in PShome. I can agree that it's not fun starting out in this game. Though even in the beta there were one sided matches such as when Heavies were tyrants on the battlefield and when the winning side was the one that can field a tank and keep it up. Today you can rarely get a fun, yet tense, match since one side would have a squad or two of Protostompers and a couple tanks that no one can take down due to lack of effective AV. Meanwhile the other team is full of random people who are just going lone wolf. Every match is more or less one-sided the second you get out of the academy. Every match, regardless of whether or not I'm squading with buddies, I check the player list to determine whether I should use my Standard fits or my Advance fits (I reserve proto mainly for more important battles like FW).
We stopped looking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside us.

I said it before and I will say it again. The academy needs to be overhauled to actually feel like an academy and not just a regular match.

I've never understood why CCP doesn't address the NPE, it's the best way to increase revenue.
In most micro transaction games the new player is of paramount importance, not so in Dust. Usually you are meant to be hooked and see how fun the game is.
In Dust you are a lepper, you are meant to be spat on and laughed at. The game is absolutely no fun for you, nor is it meant to be.
I'd rather make money on the backs of new players rather than the stupid intentional buff/nerf cycle. |

Cool but instead of or in additon to simulatoin mode you should be able to chose what level of gear you want to go witth.
Example: I say i don't like proto-stompers so before the next match i check a box that says No Proto, or No Advanced, or even Malita Only.
I run advanced and I still get proto-stomped, this gives even people like me a chance to get rid of them.
Everyting else you said is Amazing, keep at it bro, auto-squad is an awsome idea.

Playing Dust is like climbing a ladder. Only there are no handholds at the bottom, and a bunch of jerks are already at the top crapping on the bottom. I just want the the Simulation Mode modified: -0% ISK/WP -200% SP/WP (Not sure if the weekly cap would be involved with this) -Meta lvl cap of fittings/items set to 2-3 (Allowing not only starter fits, but STD lvl variant items as well, to allow a "test drive" of variant items)
No ISK/WP pretty much makes SIM mode just like its name says: an environment meant for training, not earning one's paycheck. One could "invest" more money into said training, but the meta lvl cap would hinder anything too excessive.

I agree with everything said about the tiers based on the lifetime WP
Personally i can not proto stomp period, i suck at it but i can however rock a ADV or basic fit.
Unfortunately you are correct about how the newbies are getting squashed under the feet of veterans.
I fully support tier level matchmaking

EDIT: Though one would not earn ISK through the WP, simply participating in the simulation still gives one their minimum wage. Think of it as going to "paid, on-the-job training" but this mean you lose out on earning your "commission."
The idea is to have a mode for new players only. 200% SP would be a huge incentive for veterans to invade and stomp even more.
I'd like to see it as a low risk game mode where rookies can earn SP and ISK at a trickle, while learning the game and enjoying balanced matches. Whenever they feel ready they can step out into the real matches.

I understand that the concept of SIM mode is to give new players a place to learn, but we cannot protect them from getting stomped on, nor should we. If new players are introduced to SIM mode, then they decide to go into a Public Contract, there is a very large degree in the variance of difflculty. This is why I believe that vets are needed in the SIM mode, to give a proper feel for the life of a mercenary clone in New Eden.
The regulation of equipment largely reduces the chances of SIM mode becoming too one-sided. I like the MLT Starter fit idea, but this restricts newberries from being able to handle more than half of the in-game content provided in the marketplace. That is why a meta lvl cap was suggested. If CCP gets around to making an MLT version of everything, then great!
In the case of no MLT versions of everything, meta lvl capping would be an effective alternative of stomping control. Less slots and low level mods reduces possible EHP to a fraction of what is seen in ADV and PRO fits. Granted, a Gank is still going to dominate with an HMG, but they're running around in a suit that even newberries can take down with concentrated fire from at least two or three of them.
The earning of ISK/SP at a trickle actually helps newberries less. They should be receiving MORE ISK/SP than vets so they can specialize faster and get into New Eden quicker. An unskilled newberry can do more with the SP they earn than a vet who would need to grind more. A newberry can raise a skill from 0 to 3 in the same amount of SP it will take a vet to raise that same skill from 3 to 4. The 200% WP/SP would actually be more beneficial to a newberry since the cost of skills is much, MUCH lower on the starting-end.
