Has anyone noticed the increased amount of people running Proto? I mean it's just pubs, why put your best out there? Are you really that scared to die, that you have to use your top gear against MLT and ADV users. I wonder what you guys run in PC. I know that gear doesn't make you a better player, but when I get the jump and unload a full clip and you simply turn around and go pew. I'm Dead.

Sounds more like poor game performance...
Do the math.. Even with a basic fit.. You have a lot of damage output as far as math is concerned.

I already have 20+ fittings, its way more than I'd like really, but its basically all my guns on 2 different suits + specialised PC only fitings.
By going enhanced too thats another 20 or so fittings...
At least I use enh weapons on one of the suits, its just totally speaking a much better suit that way compared to putitng proto weapons on it.
And yes, the suit with the enhanced weapons are primarily for pubs, the other one for PC or if things get too rough, (and some other situations too).
And no, my max tank is 727 HP so if the described scenario happens its a case off poor shooting on the attackers end and me getting some nice headshots in.

A better question is "Why not use Proto in Pubs?" There is so much ISK and so many have nearly infinite amounts of it. Noone cares about competition, it's all about humiliating your opponent. |

To get a challenge? Well thats certainly a point. For me its more about going up against larger groups of players, attacking the strong not the weak point and so on. Anyone with a smudge of skill can be a "periffereee hero" in this game....

A lot of ISK rewards from events paired with new equipment means that everybody is trying their newest stuff.

What should I do with my ISK?
Run FW? Why? It's a one sided **** hole and I still get hatemail for running proto anything there.
There's nothing to do with the ISK we get except burn it in pubs.

Don't you find it boring? I mean, if you have a suit with twice the HP of most of the players who are either new, or just showing up in Pubs for a paycheck (let's be honest, it does feel that way from time to time), wouldn't you prefer to actually find some opponents that challenge you?

I'm primarily a Min Scout so the idea I have twice the EHP of players who refuse to use Proto is wrong. (I've made BPO fits with more HP than my Scout)
I have the ISK and SP to run them. So I will, if a portion of the playerbase decide to quit because of that then that's no problem of mine.

No the way I play in pubs is.
Some people, like me, likes gaming best with a level of frustration. Getting shot at from 3 angles simultaneously, going head to head vs a fatty (Dark Cloud keeps bithcing me for that part) in my scout suit - that sort of fun.
Its still challenging enough to go into "the great red blob" all alone, trying to take out as many as possible before getting spotted, or trying to kill as many as you can before you go down.
My argument is about playstyles - there is plenty of challenge for those who seek it, proto or not.
Seing how well I can normally do in an enhanced setup - the proto argument just seems like the biggest silly excuse so many players have first of all for their lack of proper co-ordination, but also for their lack of gungame....

I run proto because people run proto. The other reason is that I've grounded this game for almost a year and a half, so why not run my proto. The suits look better, weapons are black and when you see me in my scout ck.o it's to find you *** clackers. This scout don't clack. |

QQing about proto in pubs is the oldest QQ in the book. if you think your going to shame people into running mlt gear with you cause thats what you want to run its never going to happen. in a pub there is a corn ball around every rock with heavys with rail rifles or proto rail tanks or thales snipers so you cant blame people for wanting to kick the crap out of anything thats red. i like to go by the proto peace treaty when i play if there is some scrub on the other team that killed me with some proto stuff then mines comeing out and we shall see how much bank he has. but sometimes new players get mixed up in the firefight i try not to shoot them and only go for a select few on the other team.

Yup, the co-ordination sucks. Playstyles do make a major difference in the definition of 'protostomping.' It changes every hour. As a scout, if I run a proto
suit in pubs, no one will consider that stomping. But if I que up with a bunch of people, that's called stomping. The line is so thin its ridiculous.
So, its fair for you to earn that gear, but its unfair for you to use it? Its annoying, but you just gotta deal.

THE BLUE DONUT....that's why you are seeing more proto gear.... dns is full of very isk rich no talent protobears who, similar to child molesters get off on dominating the helpless....

*Can get 800+ HP on a basic Gallente medium frame*
Not everyone who runs proto does it for the HP. My favorite scout setups have on average less than the starter militia frames.

not at all I already troll beat you in your other thread... I have proto and the isk to use it but romping you in bpo fits is more fun....

I run ADVANCED AND PROTO in Pub matches.
The difference between the 2 is 1 Profile dampeners and a proto light weapon.
Both have 300EHP.
So even while being proto is not like i cannot be killed by the most basic of weapons easily...

I'm sorry if I have seem ignorant. It's just that I'm tired and went online to play a couple of matches and kept getting stomped by Protos. I understand that it's CCP's fault for allowing PC to get exploited and not implementing a matchmaking system. That is all.

OP, buy a rubber band, there about a dollar for 50 at Office Depot. Spawn in the MCC and rubber band your left stick to walk into the wall. Repeat until you have enough SP to get proto gear, and enough ISK to run it consistently. After doing so, ask yourself, "Why wouldn't I run this if I can afford it?"

Nothing wrong with proto in pubs. If it gives you an advantage why not use it. Rooftops can give a forge gunnner or sniper an advantage so they get on rooftops. Tanks give an advantage over infantry use a tank. Rail tanks have an advantage over blasters, use a rail tank. Cloaks give scouts an advantage over every class use a cloak.

You get bored of using regular gear, proto suits obviously let you use more modules than normal, so it helps you be the best. I like to proto in pub matches to treat myself to some actual fun because all I do is pub matches and its boring. |

I've ran proto a few times in pubs because it's my speed tank fit has 3 complex kin cats and I mean come on...once you run 11.12 ms you never wanna run anything else after that. But I just made a proto fit on an adv suit. On complex kin cat, enh pg upgrade, 2 proto weapons(Viziam Scrambler Pistol and Ishukone Nova Knives), some shields(complex mix) and a enhanced precision.

Perfectly valid point as said many times before. But the real problem here is for those that cannot run proto, or even advanced, because they're relatively new to the game.
Not only can they not match your gear, they are also at an earlier stage of understanding the game in general.

TL;DR
Now the game is a year old, the gap between vets and new(er) players is vast, because the only way to obtain better stuff is over time. Us vets are in a time bubble, untouchable by newer players.

Its nice to use proto equipment for once, but when i still get killed in 0.7 seconds with a rail rife and loose a 268k isk fitting, still hurts.

At least one of these will happen during a match - regardless of whether I'm wearing proto or not - if two happen I've not profited. I would have to die ten times in my most expensive valour fits to not profit.
However - when squaded up, I'll wear more expensive stuff because:
A) The rest of the squad usually is, and I want to keep up with them.
B) Im less likely to die in general if squaded (especially if we have logis...).
Squadding naturally promotes proto-stomping. Tiers are stupid.

Be interesting to get a breakdown of indirect killing sales versus direct. e.g. I tend to run around in ADV (sometimes PRO since the 200 free gk.0 suits) G/1 or C/1 scout suits with ADV weapons and complex EWAR / kincats.
I guess it's the suits that really dictate the level of stomping.

I don't think people are scared to die, that's a fact of life in New Eden. Keep in mind we've had some fairly substantial SP events in the past month or so, so there are many skills that have been capped which means there's a lot of shiny proto equipment just aching to be used. And really, where else would the teeming masses use their newly found toys? PC is essentially off limits to all but the most masochist of corps and FW is already an ISK sink running STD/ADV, why multiply your loses by another 5x to 8x? |

As the game continues to recieve free updates and expansions, there will hopefully be an avenue for newer players to get comfortable with Dust and its gamble-type of gameplay. PvE comes to mind when I say that. Supposedly this may be something in the future for the game. Hopefully it will allow newcomers to get a proper feel for the game. much like how alot of gamers like to hit up the single player campaign before diving right into multiplayer. It builds their confidence.
However, now is not the time for that. Now is the time for veterans to enjoy their hard work and persistence. Many of us have been telling all those CoD, BF3/4, Killzone, and etc guys to jump on board early on with this one, to at least give them that timeframe of passive SP accumulation. If you are late to the proto party, im sorry bra. You will get there too someday.
I typically run prototype gear against good opposing teams. I respect the Nyain Sans and the Teamplayers of Dust. I wouldt disrespect them by running non-challenging gear. It just so happens that this occurs Very often because good corps are active and always playing. If you get caught up in the crossfire for being a blue on their team then I apoligize, but I wont downgrade to standard or militia because that is detrimental to my team, not just myself. It is very selfish to run cheap gear like that when my teammates need the efficiency that hiher tiers offer. Plus, like many, we can afford these things. We have stockpiled weapons. we have fought valiantly in the factional region to accrue loyalty discounted prototype weaponry.
So pubs now are more like scrimmages for the big boys & gals of dust. learn to gamble with us.

It took me about 2 months to get a proto suit. I'm not sure that's quite the friendliest way to go about making a game, especailly one that's on a console lol.

Hopefully it will allow newcomers to get a proper feel for the game. much like how alot of gamers like to hit up the single player campaign before diving right into multiplayer. It builds their confidence.
However, now is not the time for that. Now is the time for veterans to enjoy their hard work and persistence. Many of us have been telling all those CoD, BF3/4, Killzone, and etc guys to jump on board early on with this one, to at least give them that timeframe of passive SP accumulation. If you are late to the proto party, im sorry bra. You will get there too someday.
I typically run prototype gear against good opposing teams. I respect the Nyain Sans and the Teamplayers of Dust. I wouldt disrespect them by running non-challenging gear. It just so happens that this occurs Very often because good corps are active and always playing. If you get caught up in the crossfire for being a blue on their team then I apoligize, but I wont downgrade to standard or militia because that is detrimental to my team, not just myself. It is very selfish to run cheap gear like that when my teammates need the efficiency that hiher tiers offer. Plus, like many, we can afford these things. We have stockpiled weapons. we have fought valiantly in the factional region to accrue loyalty discounted prototype weaponry.
So pubs now are more like scrimmages for the big boys & gals of dust. learn to gamble with us.

Get to advanced racial variants and that will already give you a fighting chance. Specialize deeply at first, and then branch out to make you more versatile. It took me about 2 months to get a proto suit. I'm not sure that's quite the friendliest way to go about making a game, especailly one that's on a console lol.
Lol I can see where youre coming from with that. I can agree on that a bit. I do like how ccp hosts alot of SP based events. While that is very good for veterans, it also gives newcomers a chance to shorten that timespan. More importantly, those are the chances to really get your core skills where they need to be before even going proto.
Alot of the vets use youtube and allied chat channels to assist new players also. Believe it or not, the Dust514 community is thriving, and is always willing to help players who ask questions and seek to be more involved with the game.
Any typical corporate website may host threads containing organized tutorial and gameplay videos to help newer players see whats in store ahead for the various paths they choose.
Nod Keras, Cyriously Moody, Gamerfreak, shoot even Lowratehitman, to name a few, come to mind when I say this. CEOPYREX should also be included in that part of the community. I highly recommend new players to check them out if they really want to get hyped about Dust. |
