Pretty much. Also, it's a fairness thing. A lot of people buy the boosters in advance, and save them for such events. Selling them during these events enable players who don't have them in back stock to buy them for the event, which can help out newbros who haven't been playing since the last Omega sale and stuff.

Just try to put yourselves in the shoes of a new player who sees this kind of stuff.
I mean boosters are a sad means of milking money but it's clearly effective, but what does it do to the image of this game, when there is absolutely no breathing room for new players?
Ultimately this is a complaint about CCPs pitiful excuse for NPE and End Game content, it's simply that the boosters make it MUCH more obvious and creates a very bad impression for newer players. Not that many of you think about how this game is received by the general public.

May as well make it off of the smart players among us. If the new EP is focusing on Boosters more power to him. Otherwise they'll go down that slippery slope of making AUR gear better, a little fitting savings here or there and suddenly CCP is nerfing our Frames encouraging us to buy AUR kit so everything fits.

Patience is underrated.
Boosters are overrated.
Why does CCP sell an item that makes a lot of profit without giving players a real benefit over the competition? Because it makes a lot of profit. Why don't they sell it all the time? Because limiting availability skews the supply and demand lines in favour of the supplier, meaning CCP can get away with keeping the price high and still make a lot of sales.
Does it make the game pay-to-win? Nope. Have I ever bought a booster? Well, I got one with a merc pack back in closed beta. It's still sitting in the space between characters. I'll probably sell it on the player market or something. |

Tell that to proto squads The issue is the squads, not the proto. They could probably still stomp you in militia gear. Often the problem is pitting these organized squads against random solo players. Proto gear is a red herring.
Bull ******* ****, I once fought off a full squad of DNS that were spawning in militia and std gear in my joke fittings. They then pulled out their proto gear and just overwhelmed me.
I'm tired of all the it doesn't make a difference bullshit. Mathematically 2-3 times your ehp makes a huge ******* difference ignoring other bonuses like reloading, dispersion, damage, etc. STD squads do not give me grief, but I'm the guy in other fps games that hits the top of the scoreboards every match because I have no life. This game has an arbitrary system that drives away serious competition from newcomers.
But by all means, you ******* proto scrubs keep patting yourselves on the back about how pro you are. |

Building on top of the fact that, once a player hits 12M - 15M SP, they're mostly working on new specializations (ie, they can do at least one thing rather well, at this point), I think I might stop purchasing passive boosters. At this point, it really does just boil down to patience for me.

The problem is that telling a new player to "wait it out" while they get **** canned for months on end doesn't exactly do wonders for our player count. Hence, our abysmal player count.
CCP needs to focus on providing quality content and working WITH the system they've designed in such a way that promotes both the growth of the individual and the community as a whole. Right now all it promotes is people stroking their egos thinking proto doesn't give them a huge advantage as they massacre our new recruits straight out of the game.
Dangling SP boosters in their face doesn't make things better.
knight of 6 wrote:DUST Fiend wrote:Why does CCP keep selling Omega Boosters during triple SP events? it's good business? why do little kids only make lemonade stands on hot days? In the short term sure, but when new players see the insurmountable odds they have to overcome and have boosters shoved in their face as a means to compensate for that huge span of time while getting raped repeatedly, it pushes players away, creates bad public appeal, and limits the amount of actual growth that this game will see.

dust and eve ae inheritly pay to win, you just dont field 16 players all in free grear and expect to beat a fully protoed out team thats just not how it works, if u want to win you have to put in the time and effrort to aquire the necessary gear and skill level . youeither pay in time, isk, or bodies. |

Well no sh!t they'll do better.
Better gear will help you win a tie on an equal skill level.
Everyone whines about Proto Gear. "Lets change the game modes to limit gear to ADV or STD"
Okay, then everyone will start whining about those "High SP squads".
You guys never stop whining. SP is the problem here, not gear.
CCP needs to implement a scaled cap, based on the total SP required to max out skills.
People on the low end of the spectrum get a higher cap, while people on the high end get lower caps.

Which is why 2500 people play a game that is free to anyone who owns a ps3. There's a reason a lot of flash games have higher player counts then this game. There are korean fps rpg shooters but none of them take the gear disparity to the levels this game takes them. I don't know who is so gullible as to spend money on this game, as a game that costs nothing it's fine, but I can't imagine paying someone for this grindy ****. Then again people give millions upon millions to Farmville and Mafia Wars so there you go. |

Tell that to proto squads The issue is the squads, not the proto. They could probably still stomp you in militia gear. Often the problem is pitting these organized squads against random solo players. Proto gear is a red herring. I'm assuming equal skill here. An equal skill squad of standard or mlt gear will not triumph over an equal skill squad of proto gear. Is that a problem? Not necessarily, by itself, no. But once you consider that there is NOWHERE for new players to escape to, or for Vets to go off and perform end game content (lolpc) then it does indeed become a problem, and it basically FORCES newer players to either get **** ****** for months, or pay out the ass to get to a point where they aren't at such a statistical disadvantage. Add in the fact that CCP has done nothing about Biomass ISK farms or PC ISK fountains, and you create a very solid, very real divide in the community between people who can't afford to run proto, and people who can't NOT afford to run proto.

the mental friction is so thick in here it burns. if the game isn't actually pay 2 win, why not just ignore the post like all the other troll posts in GD?
its because deep inside you, you know fiend is right and you dont want the game to be more accessible to new players lest they beat you with better skill on even footing. cant have that, no sir. |
