Good riddance.
It's development was a perfect example of how not to run a production studio. A classic example of CCP's inefficacy and wastefulness. And the fact the company is posting losses will spur them to cut even more of their excuses for projects. See CCP's financials that where posted earlier this year.
You might tell me to feel sorry for the staff that lost their jobs, but these staff where enablers to the poor management and direction the project had taken and thus rather then go out fighting just came in every day did the minimum and collected a paycheck.
Dust is the same way. None of the staff goes above and beyond, they are active to the most minimum amount in the community. And they ran a total of 1 or 2 Dev active observed games with the player base in the entire history of dust.
I could go on but why bother, They are snobs who will give the most PC of excuses for their lackluster performance, some sort of Bs about turning it around or how things will be better in the future. Fanboi's would would never give up on dust no matter what the results and will come to its defense. hopefully Dust will be disbanded after a year or 2 more of floundering around accomplishing little of tangible validity.
Or they will play the in development card thus putting them above all reproach. Because as we all know when something is in development its above all criticism. |

You have been misinformed on how the internal workings of a CG studio work. I work for a studio that produces 3d assets for Disney, Matel, Nick Jr. And a bunch of others.
The employees do what they are told. I have, on many occasions brought solutions to problems in the pipeline only to be ignored or not taken seriously by management. 2 months later we are replacing those elements me and my team flagged, and staying at work for extra hours to get it done. This takes away from the production time we are allotted which also detract from the quality of future assets, as manaent NEVER admits wrong doing.
CCP is no different, it's all about numbers and not quality of work. All they are concerned with is deadlines and financial forecasts. If CG companies listened more to the boots on the ground, they would not be in the position they are.
Classic case of poor management.

Can easily be both, who says they are not cutting both and that its not just a part of the next years fiscals? or that WoD was easiest to terminate given contractual obligations to different groups thus they shove the entirety of the losses onto WoD even though dust is also bleeding cash. Next years financials will certainly tell us a lot. |

A canceled project is evidence enough of poor management. They hired staff that either couldn't do the job or asked too much.
If the building of a house was cancelled, it's on the developer, not the crew. It's why the captain goes down with the ship, because it was the leaders fault they ran a ground.

I do I also understand when you continue to work for bad leaders and are a competent individual you enable that poor leadership. And your only option? walk away. Most people wont do that, thus they enable. Again like I said about the devs, most will rather just collect a paycheck rather then leave. |

Classic case of poor management. Have you got any evidence that this is the case at CCP? Come on Gyro .. you read the bug posts and notice that a lot of what is written has been problems for a while , are they addressed ..??.. the players who continue to post the same problems would say not .
Introducing patch after patch which increases the bugs and that's attention to detail ??? Fluxes don't knock out cloaks but can kill the shield's on a vehicle , personal and some equipment but that's working as intended ???
Rendering issues , not being able to pick up a vehicle on a mini map or if you have , one second it's there and the next it's not and they inconsistently show up on passive scanners because they don't have a signature but the signature of the driver .
FG's not firing and rail guns firing until empty but the user is not firing , hit detection problems along with releasing patches with unbalanced stats on suits and problems with getting the bonuses to register but it's suppose to be alright because it's a " free " to play game that the community spends " real " money on .
There are a number of instances where dedication can be question . You forget that they have a job as well so to be complacent on the part of the community while that same community supports their product , should not be tolerated for too long .
Stop asking for tiercide , your killing variety and the fun of this game at the same dam time .

I'm a modeller, not the project manager. It is not the responsibility of the troops to give commands but to follow them. If the PM on WoD made mistakes, then the project will suffer.
Trust me, if I could fire management on my current project I would. But they don't exactly tell their bosses the truth in order to keep their job. They will lay blame however they choose. I think WoD and the redesign of dust before launch is proof enough of failing to reach milestones.

Man but you see that by staying and keeping your head down you do enable, hey man I have done it to but I recognize what it is. So few companies have ways to address the failings of their leadership. Your resume I get it, however you should be as active as possible in finding a new job with another company, starting your own or doing contract work. or finding someone who needs a good modeler who does indie work and getting in on that. Trust me staying can be just as damaging for your resume and your personal life. Too many people look at just the financials. Poor leadership takes a personal toll on you. |

Blizzard has cancelled plenty of projects - including things that they were working on like starcraft ghost or warcraft adventures, does that make them bad devs? No, it doesn't. Every dev cancels projects, including ones that were being worked on. It is simply something that happens.

bwahah. I love how "management" is this blanket term for bureaucratic ineptitude. It's hard to say what the situation is without actually being in the middle of it, but I for one hope that my children (if I ever decide to marry in the distant future) and my grandchildren (in the even longer future) get to play Dust. I imagine by then it will be this uber game with all sorts of social and real world ties (and the customization we've been promised).
btw, the place I work at installed cameras. I later found out that (via secret emails) they're not there to make sure anything valuable is not stolen, but to make sure we're doing our job. o_O despite us having never been written up for anything. oh well. management.
