Good riddance.
It's development was a perfect example of how not to run a production studio. A classic example of CCP's inefficacy and wastefulness. And the fact the company is posting losses will spur them to cut even more of their excuses for projects. See CCP's financials that where posted earlier this year.
You might tell me to feel sorry for the staff that lost their jobs, but these staff where enablers to the poor management and direction the project had taken and thus rather then go out fighting just came in every day did the minimum and collected a paycheck.
Dust is the same way. None of the staff goes above and beyond, they are active to the most minimum amount in the community. And they ran a total of 1 or 2 Dev active observed games with the player base in the entire history of dust.
I could go on but why bother, They are snobs who will give the most PC of excuses for their lackluster performance, some sort of Bs about turning it around or how things will be better in the future. Fanboi's would would never give up on dust no matter what the results and will come to its defense. hopefully Dust will be disbanded after a year or 2 more of floundering around accomplishing little of tangible validity.
Or they will play the in development card thus putting them above all reproach. Because as we all know when something is in development its above all criticism. |

The employees do what they are told. I have, on many occasions brought solutions to problems in the pipeline only to be ignored or not taken seriously by management. 2 months later we are replacing those elements me and my team flagged, and staying at work for extra hours to get it done. This takes away from the production time we are allotted which also detract from the quality of future assets, as manaent NEVER admits wrong doing.
CCP is no different, it's all about numbers and not quality of work. All they are concerned with is deadlines and financial forecasts. If CG companies listened more to the boots on the ground, they would not be in the position they are.
Classic case of poor management.
And when you support that **** management you enable it. |

The loss was entirely due to a write-off of assets, which is very likely to be the capitalised value of the WoD code. So the loss and the layoffs were likely the same event - termination of WoD. This right here. A lot of people were thinking it was a bunch of useless Dust code that was written off. Well, it was WoD apparently.
Can easily be both, who says they are not cutting both and that its not just a part of the next years fiscals? or that WoD was easiest to terminate given contractual obligations to different groups thus they shove the entirety of the losses onto WoD even though dust is also bleeding cash. Next years financials will certainly tell us a lot. |

Classic case of poor management. And when you support that **** management you enable it. I don't hire, nor fire management. You don't understand the politics I have described. I don't enable management to make dumb decisions. They do that themselves by ignoring the problems presented to them. I'm in no position to twist arms of people who have never opened 3d rendering software but insist things be done their way. If you work for a living, you'll understand this.
I do I also understand when you continue to work for bad leaders and are a competent individual you enable that poor leadership. And your only option? walk away. Most people wont do that, thus they enable. Again like I said about the devs, most will rather just collect a paycheck rather then leave. |

I'm a modeller, not the project manager. It is not the responsibility of the troops to give commands but to follow them. If the PM on WoD made mistakes, then the project will suffer.
Trust me, if I could fire management on my current project I would. But they don't exactly tell their bosses the truth in order to keep their job. They will lay blame however they choose. I think WoD and the redesign of dust before launch is proof enough of failing to reach milestones.
Man but you see that by staying and keeping your head down you do enable, hey man I have done it to but I recognize what it is. So few companies have ways to address the failings of their leadership. Your resume I get it, however you should be as active as possible in finding a new job with another company, starting your own or doing contract work. or finding someone who needs a good modeler who does indie work and getting in on that. Trust me staying can be just as damaging for your resume and your personal life. Too many people look at just the financials. Poor leadership takes a personal toll on you. |
