I remember the first time I fielded a fully kitted out, heavily skilled into, put together with math and love, tank. It was glorious, there was carnage, I could take damage like a champ(most of the time), but most of all, it felt like this was a tank. It was heavy, it was slow, it was a thinking man's death machine. If I was caught with my pants down, I was turned into flaming wreckage.
I remember AV being a deterrent unskilled, but lethal when skilled into.
I believe the new tanks are a step backwards from this. There is very, very little punishment if any for screwing up against anything short of another tank. as you can just roll away faster than swarms can track, and somehow, CCP managed to break forge guns again.
I think tanks should be rolled back to 1.6 modules and skills, with the current state of AV. the scale was tipped in AV's favor then, but now it's just sad. AV is not a deterrent unless there are multiple ADV or better, or someone made a specific breach forge fit with stacked mods. and even then, you can just roll out before you really start to hurt.
Bring back heavy, slow, tough tanks with skills that actually mean something!

I don't think there would be any objections from either parties if we reverted to 1.6 Vehicles, but kept the 1.8 AV stats.

AV got the nerf it needed, but tanks got overbuffed(and simplified to the point where MLT is basically as good as anythign a real tanker can put together thanks to the idiotic idea that modules get no better as you level them besides cooling down faster)

R.I.P. Pre-1.7 Vehicles & AV, you will be missed.

well, i remember my latest pre-1.7 Missile-Madrugars being around the 30 000 EHP mark including properly calculated-in damage-reductions when active hardeners were active and the extra-HP from active rep's'n'boost's
(that's right - "actively managed" hitpoint-bars that were together able to soak-up as much damage as a CRU has armor - but only for the duration of active hardeners of course - still forges and super-swarms nearly insta-popped those tanks without hardeners on).
my best EHP Tank fits that still carry damage-mod and proto-turret of today however, have between 8 800 and 10 000 EHP during active hardening - what unfortunately means that a proto-rail & double damage-amp tank kills them in 4 shots (which is 3.6 seconds minus lag after the first hit).
so today's tanks rely on speed and agility, this does not just not feel entirely right as tanker - it also means that AV with their inability to keep up in speed have to rely entirely on just scaring tanks away for a short time or kill them by traps or their own stupidity/ underestimation of situational danger. |

yeah... no. I mean 1.6 when tanks were considered ****. You know why? they required way more investment SP and ISK wise than anything that countered them.
but once you put in a metric ****-ton of SP and kitted it out just right, it was awesome.

well...I would. The gunlogi of 1.6 was crap. Every build was the same- madrugar, 2 small blasters, scattered ion, heat sink, 2x hardener, nitros, heavy rep, 120mm plate....no. 1.6 was better than 1.7, but 1.8 is closer to Chrome than 1.6 or 1.7. Tank need a lot of work; vehicles in general......but ccp is headed in the right direction. i foresee some AV buffs down the road.

And still factored eliminated by a Swarm Launcher on a roof hitting from from anywhere on the map. They may not kill you but you couldn't do much without getting shot to utter hell. It was frustrating just taking damage without knowing where it came from because invisible swarms.
I prefer 1.7, even if there are less fitting slots for the Madrugar and Gunnlogi. The reason is because from Beta to release, the only fit you needed as a Madrugar pilot was 3 hardeners staggered, Plate, and Repairer and High slot was a Heat Sink. That was simply the best fitting pure and simple. When PG was nerfed out of beta, 2 hardeners staggered, Plate, and Repairer and High was a Heat Sink. Again, it was simply the best option by miles.
1.7 has "less options but more choices." I have different setups now. One that is faster, one that is more tanky, one that is meant to be more of a passive, one that is better against vehicles, and whether or not I want to use a Passenger or two. There really isn't a "best" option from what I have tried, only "better at X."

huh, I shield tank. always have, always will. Maybe that's why I want 1.6 back. when you had all your relevant skills maxed and threw on passives and 1 active for emergencies, you were practically immortal. not the best for killing stuff since you had no speed, but you could passive heal through swarms. up until then though, it was terrible, the worst decision you could make, but seeing a maddy show up all bluster and showboating, only to get smacked into the floorboards was priceless.
also, dunno if it was a glitch or not, but the active seemed to have no stacking penalty with the passives. It made sense to me because it was basically just for surviving orbitals or getting ambushed by massive amounts of enemy fire.
I miss the hardener being a "NOT THIS DAY!" feeling when I activated it and withstood orbitals/ multiple tanks/AV, not my first active module going into a fight.
I also miss 27 round firing streaks with my railgun with the heat sink running. FWOOMP-THUUM-THUUM-THUUM-THUUM... I love caldari suppressing fire.

I honestly thought this was going to be a cry thread that tanks were too weak, and I was ready to be pissed. I'm quite glad I was wrong.
I fully endorse this thread 100%.

I think we can all agree shield tanks and missiles were underpowered when compared to their respective armor counterparts.

Anyone who ran a 120mm plate heavy eff. rep 3 carapace harderners armor tank knows that av was not OP at all in 1.6. Hell even the people inexperienced enough to be running the 180mm plate heavy rep pg exp 2 carapace hardener tanks knew av wasn't op at all. But all the super scrubs that ran anything different kept complaining that they were getting raped by AV that had 3x as much as SP in their fits as the scrubs did in their tanks.
My friend was kind of crappy at tanking and always said av was op, then I helped him with fittings and also would sometimes rep him in my charybdis. In the course of two weeks he was astounded that we were sponging av from half the enemy team with 2-4 consistent proto av as well.
Av was not op. It was retardedly easy to go 30+/0 consistently in 1.6 and before. And now its even easier.
There was one thing that was op though, which was prof 5 triple damage modded swarms, because swarms did glitched explosive damage that did way more than it was supposed to, which led to 4.4k damage per volley to unhardened tanks.
Your post is making me facepalm very hard right now.

Yeah once I had a friend repping me almost 100% of the time with his Charybdis and I was in my Falchion. Towards the end of the match we were redlined so I was on a hill and he was hiding behind it while I was simply soaking up a squad full of AV with proto swarms and a forge gunner. Each time someone fired I'd shoot a volley of missiles at them and kill them and they'd keep spawning in trying to kill me. Finally at the very end they dropped an OB on me and due to partly my fault in choosing the wrong direction to flee in, they managed to kill me.

I had a tank just for repping other tanks. and a logilav that *le gasp!* was used for logi work on tanks. had a buddy who had 11k armor stacked on a lolfit. it was epic to heal that thing.

Well, I believe that the Missile Reload should have been designed like the Shotgun.
The only thing I completely refuse to bring back from 1.6 HAVs is the collision damage against Shields. I'm glad that got toned down.
