Squads. If you go against them you need them. Especially good ones. There is no casual play option and I feel a lot of qq really comes from this mechanic.
I usually roll deep in team members and "stomp." But sometimes I don't want to spend the extra time coordinating, I just want to play a few rounds doing my own thing. Very difficult to do consistently. Sure there are certain fits that might make it easier, but pulling a logi or a std frontline is simply not going to cut it against any semi coordinated opposition.
I like squads, I wouldnt want it any other way. I just wish there was some kind of game mode that was more casual and less time consuming...

The answer to squads as a solo player before was to simply stay out of their way.
Now you do that, and the scouts pick you off relentlessly and unless you're another scout, you really stand no chance.

Squads could use to go back to 4 players. With all the new WP to be had 6 just earn orbitals way too easily.
CCP you better nail 1.8, as it stands 1.7 is a total disaster.

Correlation doesn't equal causation. Good players and vets tend to run squads because it is a smarter way to play (you tend to loose fewer suits), and they have been in the game a while and have social bonds with friends. Make them all play solo and those same players will still probably do reasonably well. A better answer is to stress the importance of squadding up in the NPE, and help newer players get into training corps as early as possible.
Best PvE idea ever!

If only there was some type of invention that would attempt to create balanced teams. A solution that would divide the number of squads equally among the two teams in order to create a more enjoyable experience for everyone. We could even call this invention "matchmaking"
Yeah, I know, over the top. Really that is what dust needs, a matchmaking algorithm. If it adds 30 seconds for my wait time to get into battle, I think that would be just fine.

I said it before, got lots of hate, but I'll say it again. Squads in public matches should be limited to 4 players. If you want to do FW or PC you can still have 6, but if you're doing pubs then only 4. Having 6 players out of 16 in a public match all coordinating together is too much power. And yeah I've heard all the counters to this, "Why are you trying to nerf teamwork?" I'm not trying to nerf teamwork, have all the teamwork you want in FW and PC. But in pubs lets try to have a better experience for the people who want to play solo or just with one or two friends.

We just need more solo options.

Number 1 cause of issues in DUST: CCP's decisions compounded by CCP's refusal to address, for months or years, broken game mechanics caused by those decisions.
This is already written into DUST's history. Question is, will it be DUST's epitaph?

This is so true. I played a couple matches today because I had an hour to kill. Played on my main that has calmmando, assault, and logi and had a miserable time, went negative, lost ISK. Got pissed and switched to my Gal scout alt and was able to manage 4-5 KDR make ISK, and almost have fun if I wasn't running around the same tired old unchanging maps.

The irony there is that scouts are perfect for running solo. Assaults, heavies and logis all need to support each other and are best suited for squad combat.

It's not that I am not proficient while running solo, it's when your on a team of solo players. A distinct disadvantage when the other teams solo players focus around a coordinated squad.
I had played a bush where we had one 3 man squad and the rest we solo. A proto squad on the other side pushed in, cloak killed, and separated our already individualized team.
I am just saying that there is not a good casual mode. I guess a scout and cloak may be the answer but I am a Minmatar logi. Only squad play for me. Or death.

The matchmaker works, problem is the leet players chased away all the new players. Tiny playerbase makes matchmaker useless. Average was somewhere around 2.5k players on what, 3 servers, 24 timezones? Glad to see people reasonable on the forums, but you realize you represent what remains after months of fotm chasers buffing their ego and murdering a game.

I'm unsure of the algorithm currently employed, but I would hope that it would weight K/DR, then WP/DR. That way, the players doing the best in those areas are facing like-skilled individuals, and on down. Squads would be weighed as individuals, if that works.

Bringing the warbarge back in pubs would also help immensely. It allowed teams to squad up and study the enemy roster so you could take an educated guess at how much of a fight they were going to give. Sure the (no-longer) randoms in the squad may still suck, but at the very least you can tell them to stick with the greens. Strength in numbers and all that. |
