Gallente. Your main enemy will be the Cal scout which may see you, no one else will. Gallente has a more flexible slot lay out (more lows) and the BPO's are damn awesome now (1 high, 3 lows).

Really just depends what you want to do. The gal is the most stealthy and has the most options for fittings due to high amounts of pg available and for those who want to brick tank it has the low slots to do so. The Caldari scout (my personal preference) is great for being able to see everything and plan an attack route accirdingly. With 1 comp precision enhancer and maxed skills you can see most undampened/uncloaked scouts and a few cloaked ones as well.

Both are good. Gallente gets more EHP because of Armor but Caldari will likely be faster than. I prefer Caldari because it isn't Gallente. From a practical aspect, the range on the radar is wonderful.

Basically what this guy said. Gallante is for hiding/camping a CP(you can stack a few profile dampeners to avoid high level detection), Caldari is for hunter seekers. |

Both are Great. ACtually, except the Amarr scout, all scouts are really powerful.
Caldari if you prefer FAST HP regen (the 50 per sec shield recharge) and better radar functions. With a Profile dampener and a range amplifier in your low slots you can be both stealthy AND have good range and precision so good passive radar.
The Gallente now has 3 hp per sec repair , which is nice, but suffers from speed loss while trying to increase its HP levels unless you use Ferroscales. I chose the Gal because with it i can equip a profile dampener and become trully radar invisible. Equip a range amplifier, and still have 2 slots for speed tanking.....BUT,i had to sacrifice High slots to get Scan precision enhancers so my HP is rather low....
It really depends.
Gal: Great vs other scouts that gave good passive scan. Gal can truly achieve low scan profile while retaining good radar range. Good radar range and overall good PG.
Cal:Best Radar performance. The 2 Low slots might be a problem considering the amount of GOOD low Modules vs the amount of GOOD Highs. For example, A caldari cant achieve the same speeds as a Gal or Minmatar because of the only 2 low slots. I can Quip 3 Kinetic cats and a Range amplifier and be FASTER and have MORE radar range than a caldari scout. But the caldari scout could equip 2 Precision enhancers and the Gallente has no way of surpassing this amount of scan precision. Its trully give & take.
The Minmatar is best for Nova Knifing, Speed tanking and HAcking speed. The Nova knife bonus on this suits equals 5+ Complex damage mods for knife and the HAcking speed bonus equals a Full Complex Codebreaker, which are pretty hard to equip due to high fitting requirements.

Thanks so much for the responses thus far guys, I appreciate it.
This post is for a corpmate who used to be a Minmatar Assault. He's sitting on a few million skill points after the 1.8 respec, and was having trouble deciding between the two scouts. His playstyle is a fast flanker -- and we virtually always play in a squad. He uses a RR as his main weapon.
My gut says Caldari would play better to his strengths and style, but I wanted to solicit the forum's opinion before he spent those few million skill points.
Please keep the comments coming, and again my thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and observations....Leadfoot |

Roger.
Minmatar would be the go-to suit for his playstyle, but fitting constraints are a problem this build. And folks are running in packs which makes knifing more difficult this build (compared to last).
Gallente's probably his best bet. Low Slots are key for a flanker / infiltrator, and he can specialize further into ewar, biotics, or both.
Caldari's excellent for recon, but you won't have enough lows to dodge radar. Damps are pretty f*cking important for a flanker. |

I'd say caldari.
Sure gallente have more low slots, but caldari can plan his attack and enemy position. With 1damp and cloak only another caldari will detect you (and focused, but theyre sht).
In prevsious posts there are already informations about them both, im gonna add that : you will see every scout except dampened gallente. This is just great, if you know that you dont have any scout trying to catch you while youre going do so. |

I have Gallente, Caldari, and Minmatar scouts all to proto.
I usually prefer using Minmatar for knifing all the new heavies and mediums but it's not a great anti-scout suit unless I catch them at a distance and can hose them down with my BK-42 ACR. Bringing knives against a scout shotty who is aware of you is usually a quick way to die.
I switch to Gallente if there is a Caldari scout trying to hunt me, or Caldari if there are a lot of other non-Gallente scouts running around and cloaked. |

Sounds like your friend is new to scouts, but with flanking and stuff not so new to how to play 'em.
I would recommend getting his feet wet with the Gallente scout.
It's a good medium scout suit, that, assuming lvl 5 skills in it, has very nice innate low profile and long range scans. Good slot layouts offer a diversity of fittings styles along with the CPU/PG (again, assuming lvl 5 in relevant skills) to fit. The 3 lows, and innate armor repair, offer the Gallente more independence, and more opportunity to stay behind enemy lines longer.
I don't think you could go wrong with either scout, but I will say that only having 2 low slots can impose alot of fitting limitations. At least I always feel like I am sacrificing something on my Matari scout, though, other than the cost, I'd be happy running proto Matari scouts since they have 3 lows.

Talk to your friends and corp members. My little brother switched from Minmatar Scout to Gallente Scout and he loves it. I love my new Caldari Scout, because fast recovery is perfect for hit and run attacks. In a squad our suit bonuses are complimentary.
Additionally, you may want to consider the other roles, like AV. I have almost discontinued my Assault AV fits in favor of my Scout AV with cloak. I wouldn't be as effective with a swarm launcher if my bonus was for hacking and NK, but the scan range is always used.

I must disagree with Scout Registry , sadly for me...
I think the Caldari Scout fits better his style. At proto level, equipping a Cx Range amplifier and a Complex Kin cat in your low slots, and at least 1 complex precision enhancer in your high slots results in a VERY capable flanker. With above avarege speed, scout stamina and a very powerful passive scan. So powerful you will be able to scan even scouts without profile dampeners... As a flanker, knowing where people are is a must, and the Caldari Scout can be ''TANKED'' while not loosing SPEED for it...(By ''tanked , i refer to 1 or 2 shield extenders XD)
Now , im playing Gal Scout. I find it extremely good, but since active scanners are not so popular anymore i kind of feel like the EXTRA profile dampening is not working for me , at least not all the time, and i kind of wish i had faster HP regen and better scan precision...
I'd say your buddy should try out the Cal scout. He wont regret it, specially if he plays with other corp mates frequently. BUT WARNING, the Cal Scout needs the Passive Skills of Dampening, Precision and Scan Range at very high levels for full competence. But i must admit when all 3 are at level 5 and you equip those modules...heh...oh man.
