Yeah this is a rage rant. If you don't like it read a different thread. Where the hell do I begin.... First off it throws you into the thick of it with almost ZERO explanation on dropsuits, weapons, fittings, corporations, skill leveling, and BASIC game mechanics, and then after the pathetic 5 second tutorial it has the nerve to say "You're ready! Go get em' tiger!" Lol what a laughable joke. If you're new, expect to create multiple characters before you figure out your crack from a hole in the wall.
Once your pathetic excuse for a tutorial is done and you play all of like 3 matches with fellow noobs, you get dumped in matches with people with gear that's 100 times better than yours. You'll be all optimistic at first until these jackals wipe the pretty smile off your face; at which time you'll find yourself attempting (in vain) to pump all your rounds into a guy who'll just turn around drop you in 2 seconds flat. And why is that? Because there is NO skill level segregation. So after you've blown all your measly starting SP you'll realize that you blew it all on that awesome gun you wanted, only to realize you leveled up Light instead of Heavy and you need the appropriate dropsuit to use it. Ok so I'll just level that one right? Wrong, you just blew all your SP on the wrong things, so good luck building that back up anytime this decade....and you need to consider CPU and PG. Just wait and see how much fun you have trying to create a fitting every time it gets stuffed in your face that you don't have enough CPU or PG. And then you'll just have a blast opening THAT can of worms because remember that cool gun you wantes to use? Well just forget that for a while because the Devs thought dropsuit leveling was SO much fun that they decided to make TWO DIFFERENT SKILL TREES FOR IT. Gimme a freakin break. And you know what makes it even more frustrating?? THEY DON'T TELL YOU JACK. AND THEY NICKEL AND DIME YOU WITH SP TO THE POINT WHERE IT'S DOWNRIGHT INSULTING. So unless you have a stinkload of money to spend, just expect to get rectum raped over and over while it takes you a year just to get a few mediocre guns at best. While the paid players dance over your corpse. Players need to be separated by skill level. And hey, here's a message to the Devs.... Why not actually REWARD the people who spend so much time playing your games instead of insulting them with a lousy 3,000 SP per fight. It's a freakin joke. And why is everyone so afraid to rant? Stop being so politically correct and just say what bothers you and maybe you'll actually see some of the changes you wanna see in the games you play. Y'all act like a bunch of baby blue boyscouts on here like "GEE WHIZ this game troubles me something awful!" when you know damn well you're throwing your damn controllers in a fit of rage 4 times a day. So freakin fake. That's all I got. Peace. |

I think CCP likes having very bad NPE because it encourages players to make bad SP investments, thus increasing the amount of grind they need / encouraging them to purchase boosters to make up for lost time.

Apply to "Nyain Chan" Corporation, tell them you are new in the application mail. We will do everything we can to help you understand and enjoy this game. bear in mind nyain is mainly japanese, but a lot of us are english / american speaking players too.
It is no mystery as to why NPE (new player experience) is horrible, we as a community just have to help the new players through what CCP wont help them through.
edit: if you are wondering why nobody rants (even though i occasionally cant help myself) its because ccp literally ignore rants 100%. I have never ever over the last year and a half of the fourms, seen a ranter get a dev response. its always the asskissers.

Love how people play this game and act like they have never played another game before. Lol if you want to blow you SP b4 you read the descriptions and figure out how you want to build you character that is you own fault. Why does someone need to hold your hand and explain that the L is your wepons slot is for a light weapon. Pretty self explanatory if you ask me. |

I am still new to the game having played a little over a month now. Most of your points are spot on. I am on my third character because I had no clue what I was doing. Finally scoured these forums to try and learn anything. It is an incredibly frustrating experience. But I am still here.
The game and community needs new players to survive and thrive. It's a game and supposed to be fun. I fear that most new comers are not as determined to stick through all the arse kickings before they get frustrated and quit.

Starting SP need to be uped to 1 mil, and they need to completely rework and expand the BPO starter suits to includ
3 scout suits -mlt shotgun and speed mods -racial mlt rifle and tank+regen mods -mlt sniper with ewar mods
1 mlt heavy -with mlt HMG basic with worse fitting and worse range) with regen mods
4 med frame suits -tank fit with racial rifle -tank fir with AR like now because the AR is still the easyest gun for noobs to acociate with -regen fit with a mlt rep tool -shotgun fit with mlt uplink
These forums must be located in the Californin country side, there is whine as far as the eye can see.

Everyones been through it bro, there was absolutly no academy or anything when i startedbut i was smart about it. real talk tho if I was you I'd do this: Don't buy any other games buy as many passive 1 month boosters as you can put them on your first character then don't play it. Go back to the academy on your other characters and other PSN ids. Play academy games and skill into something new every time, send the left over isk to your main guy, delete all characters except the main with the boosters and repeat. Try and cap your main every week with a 3 day active booster if possible then use the formula I recommend above.
Once you decide what to do spend points on the main but create these suits to generate more wp for higher isk gain.
Mtl scout with a hack mod, and uplinks
A mtl heavy and forge to destroy turrets an tanks
A sniper
A fit with mtl nano hives
Every match spawn scout, hack the home letter for 100 wp, drop link, hack supply depot, 50 points, drop hive, switch to forge, kill two turrets, 200, switch to scout, hack furthest letter from action drop link, 100 points.
That just made you over 500 wp and you never even killed anyone yet

Interesting. I always wondered what the difference was between the two corps. But knowing a smidgeon of Japanese, I thus infer from your post that "Nyain Chan" is kinda like a training corp for "little mercs" to learn how to grow up into Nyain San? lol...

This bit, i dunno whether it's the best. If the guy wants ISK, maybe best thing to do is to just grid in ambushes with zero-cost [STARTER] fits. Pretty easy to rack up millions of ISK in a few hours that way, even if all you do is die. On average, 100k per 10 minutes even if you do badly. If you do okay, more like 150k per 10min, and it's pure profit. Plus this way, you keep the (admittedly small) WP, rather than throwing it away on burned alt chars. |

1. Find a corporation to join. Some corps (like mine, unfortunately) won't accept you due to being a new guy, but a lot of corps love to help out new guys.
2. Always play in a squad. It helps out an absolute TON and you will get ganked way less.
3. If you don't have a mic, go buy one. Communication is everything and it makes the game a lot funner.
4. Research whatever you plan on speccing into, beforehand. Don't just spec into it because it looks cool and end up sucking. Look at the bonuses, and really thing about what you want to do in Dust.
5. Specialize early in the game. Specialization is everything. Think about what you want to do and spec into nothing else but that. If your speccing into logi (an awesome role for beginners because it makes you a ton of money, WP and SP early and you don't have to kill. They're also extremely helpful to a team. Nothing is better than having a cool ass logibro rep you and give you nanohives, revive you when your down or put down drop uplinks to help out the team in a kickass game of domination.

Not reading all that, so I will just post something for you.
I have always held the opinion that preparing rookies is the domain of the player run corps. Newbros who solo and don't join a corp never get a chance to become actual bros.
They have to make this leap themselves.
Once they link up with a corp, their new player experience becomes something the corp needs to pay attention to and if possible, improve.
Exactly how each corp approaches this is up to the people running the corp.
Documentation, squads, vets on comms, all of these things are essential.

I feel you man, I went through about 15 characters in beta before I actually did something beneficial. But that was back when you had to get like 10k sp to leave the academy, now it's like 2k sp or some stupid shite like that. Also, I've ranted about 4 times on these forums and got nothing but "You're butt hurt, get good, nobody cares" so I just said F.uck it and kept it to myself. I still more things to rant and rage about on the forums but I'm not going to bother. Also, if you join Nyain Chan they'll probably drown you with isk... so it may be a good idea until you start to understand the game to the point where you want to take off the training wheels and go balls deep

I was here when this game had come out and since i had no intention of paying for boosters or anything i skilled up normally i was around when everything felt clunky and stupid and i would be happy if i went into a game and got one or two kills and even i said f this game but the thing is i don't want to be a quitter so i stuck it out and now i average 10 or more kills with a finite number of deaths. So to complain about proto users is a waste because i look at it this way u could die 10 or more times and be fine wallet wise if they die more than 3 there going negative no matter how many kills they get so all im saying is just stick it out and keep learning the game like how to avoid un winnable fights and help were you can and as time goes on and you skill more you'll be able to help in different areas because if you think this is bad then you would hated the old dust with a passion.( and before any1 says i use proto gear no i find using proto in pubs to be stupid and it doesn't portray your skill at the game but ppl will still do it so i deal and if i kill a proto with my adv gear im always happy

I wish more players could get a starting experience like I had.
I started on day one of uprising. I was greeted by no tutorial at all but an academy (that was not full of alts proto'd out) that did not boot us until 10 or 15k warpoints. I also quickly met beta veterans who were glad to help because they were loving the flow of new blood I suppose. Once I graduated from the academy I was greeted by even more helpful vets that I was this time in match with and spent plenty of time discussing skills etc.. with them to learn my way around.
I have tried my hardest to pass this along and do the same for newbies but they come out of the academy not even knowing how to access different parts of the skill tree or even how to do an actual new fitting making it very difficult.
