Thales. The one and only thing you are guarenteed to lose within 60 seconds of your first kill posted using a Thales if you are in a match against me.

Why?
It's not the fact you are 250/500 meters in the redline. You will find me there some matches.
It's not that salvage is broken. My merc hasn't recieved anything in salvage since December... no bs, ever since I went on record stating salvage is broken, funny coincidence?
It's not that Scotty has stacked a team against you. It happens to everyone.
It's not the fact your generally in a pseudo Heavy suit.
It is because it is in my opinion Thales have no right of place in a Public match. It is as simple as that.
For everyone to understand the process of how I can accomplish this match in match out?
All blueberrys should have this fitting in stock at all times... it works wonders against Thales 'operators'.

Run up to red taking a dirt nap.

Try to get back in dropship, if it's not on fire.

I didn't know people hated Thales this much.
I mean yeah, its a sniper, but if you let a sniper kill you more than once, you need to learn how to use cover better.
Nothing says "F**K YOU!" like a direct Flaylock to the face.

I never really had a problem with Thales. The suit I wear in particular can't take excessive beating, so I don't stay out in the open.

I drove a sica into the redline to kill a thale's user once. he was in a 1600 hp proto heavy suit had to shoot him twice with my railgun. the mail was worth it though. |

I was hoping to be able to do this with my logi mk.0 Minmatar Precision Rifle (Explosive) with prone and bipod and 1 kilometer over the horizon range table, as per CCP video I saw 2 years ago. Still waiting.

I release to CCP full permissions given to data capture my character for unlimited time period.
Specifically in regards to turning my salvage ratio's back on it is very evident it was manually turned off imo. It has been 4 months since I stated salvage was broken, and since that day I haven't recieved a single item from salvage. Please, fix this somehow.

I'm pretty sure I have hundreds of kills with it as well.

Yup, I had a tough game yesterday in ADV, went 19-12, was facing up against proto suits, one sentinel with 1100 armour
went 17-15, another guy in proto goes negative with about 13 deaths.
So what kills me most of the match? The guy with the Thale as I'm trying to play the objective.
Redline snipers have no place in the game PERIOD, how CCP designed a game where you can get 2 people sniping
the objective to ensure nobody EVER goes near it is beyond me!!! Snipers can literally pin you down and clone you out
at an objective all because you're trying to play the objective.
CCP if you want everyone to hug the outskirts of the map and farm the players who don't stick with the pack
60m away with a rail rifle (so they can avoid snipers) then you're going the right way about it!
I've never seen a game which allows players to sit invisible, unrenderable and certainly invincible 100s of metres
behind the redline, able to dictate what happens at the objective, without actually being involved in the game.
nobody should have that much power without being down on the field where the battle is!
The bridge map is still a complete and utter joke, sometimes I've seen 6 snipers on the enemy team, it's like
nobody wants to play this game, they just sit on a rock somewhere because it's easier for them to get kills.
Maybe they really do suck and they did run on the ground but got sick of the OP FOTM spamming.
At least 1.8 is a step in the right direction what with increasing TTK but we need leaps not steps! This game has been out
for a while now and is slowly being left behind because it's not what it should be, time is of the essence. 2 steps forward with weapon balance but 1 step backwards with some questionable decisions not limited to the weapons but "other" changes in 1.8. |

I had massive lulz yesterday. My squad was kicking ass but losing ground on the bridge domination map. I go to respawn and see 9 blue dots on top of dingleberry mountain. We decided to hell with victory. I spawned in with my forge gun and proceed to the closest sniper. I stand in front of him. He moves, I move. I punch him in the face...he drops me ammo??!!?? I continue punching his face until he runs away. I head to the next sniper. I punch him in the face...he drops ammo?!?!??! So I continue punching his face until he runs away. Go to the next one and spend the rest of the map trying to call a LAV onto him...he was wise to my plans and moved three feet to the right.
So here's a protip: Snipers are filled with delicious candy, punch them to receive ammo!
We can pickle that.

Yet another QQ Kitten about unfair OP gear in the Red Line except when he is doing it. And he admits to it.
Let's establish the beginning of the discussion with the most important fact: There is no matchmaking in Dust514.
Many Mercs will only play pub matches. FW is weird and if you don't want the LP gear then all it does is cost you gear, not pay ISK and is queue sync heaven for multi squad warfare. PC is worse and fewer play it, now that district locking is gone there will not be much ISK incentive to play PC.
So where exactly do these QQ Kittens expect anyone that have Officer Gear salvage to use it? Anywhere that is not where they are would be the only answer I can come up with.
Nut job suicide Mercs have always been part of Dust. We had Team Killers with grenades, LAVs (aka murder taxis), derp ships have always been used to scrape snipers off any high point and, of course, we have expanded recently with the Jihad Jeeps.
Don't use a Thale in the open. 
And so it goes.

Hmm...Thales are annoying, but I never experience them enough to truly complain about them. Alas, complaining in general is just stupid unless you have some sort of useful information, or idea for it, whilst keeping yourself from looking like a complete redneck who yells at the neighbors kids to stay off of his lawn with rifle in hand. But, I do have to agree, Thales, and officer weapons aren't meant for pubs, or factional in absolute entirety. The salvage payout for those weapons is low enough to prove it so. But, the veterans have farmed officers for a long while now, and they have a nice, and large stock in their inventory of officer weapons, therefore, they get brought into pubs, and factionals. The Thale is a perfect example of this, as it is a sniper rifle! Snipers rarely get targeted, and seriously...who the hell uses a sniper rifle in a PC match? Not very many, I can tell you that. So, with that in mind, the Thale gets pulled into pubs, and factionals because it never gets used in PC. Overall result, this leads to it being the ultimate "gank weapon" for Dust 514. Considering this full reveiw of my own experience, and to the best of my knowledge, Thales should be removed entirely from the game.
BUT, after 1.8, they will no longer be the ultimate "gank weapon." Wanna know why? Because damage mods are lowered from 3, 5, and 10%, to 3, 4, and 5%. Now, imagine...close your eyes and blissfully think of the outcome. I can see it, god is speaking to me! A weapon...powerful, yet unable to kill a heavy in a single shot, even with a headshot! Oh praise the lords! God has anwered our prayers.
CONGRATU-*******-LATIONS EVERYONE, no more whining? I beleive so...
Edit: I can be a huge pr!ck at times, please don't take offense to it. Or do...either way, I'm not wrong about this. Unless some guy comes along and says, "It'll get lower damage output, but still one shot a heavy. I did the math, here's the link: XXXXXXXXXX"

I have 42 Thales in my inventory. I used one once in a match. Maybe I should fit it again just to induce enemy rage. It seems like it may work as a tactic to draw the enemy off of objectives.

In my opinion, Thales are the only TRUE sniper rifles in this game, due to the fact that they kill most infantry targets in one shot (you know, the way a sniper rifle is SUPPOSED TO!). |

Yet they fail to realize what they are actually doing to the game or how much of a ***** they are for using their red line crutch.
If you snipe from the red line, or rail tank from the red line, grow some balls, leave your safety zone, and actually join the fight.
But then again the very reason these players exploit the red line is because they are dickless cowards and often they are terrible players so I guess red line abusers will continue until CCP does something about it.
Gun control is not about guns...it's about control.
The only way to ensure freedom is by having the means to defend it.

I remember sat there with my thale's once, sat there watching dropships scanning for me"scan attempt prevented"..... twas a fun day sniping. Finally one guy realised that I wasn't even in the redline. I track him as he tries to find me in the city. Wolfman's PCP scp ended his search before he actually saw me.
Now for the "no right"..STFU. Where do the have a place? PC? That whole thing is a mess, don't play it. FW....lol. Anyone has every right to run whatever suit they want, with any weapon. Back in 1.6 I used to jump out of my friends tank with a balac's GAR to swiftly remove FG/AV naders and swarmers..
I will concede evertime I see a Thales I go hunting.

I can't actually think of a game offhand where a sniper rifle instakills infantry without a headshot.
And in games where they instakill with a headshot, it takes a little more skill to do.

The thing is though, all maps suffer from ****** design.
A good sniper finds a good vantage point to snipe from. Good vantage point = high ground with good overview of ones surroundings and the target.
Now look at most maps in the game. Almost all of them are "bowl"-shaped, with the redline covering the only areas that are good vantage points for a sniper.
So what do you propose a sniper should do? Run around with a sniper rifle in cqc and look like a complete idiot and get killed in the process?
Don't blame the snipers just because they're doing what a sniper should do. Blame ccp for inventing such a stupid concept as a redline to begin with.
Oh and in b4 "you crutch using scrub": I don't even have the skills to be able to use a Thale... |

I got 6 Thales that I will probably never will use, so whenever the Player's Market comes out I'm hoping for some officer HMG trades for them, increase the number of Thale's red liner snipers have just so I can get something useful!

I just grab my Incubus and find the perpetrator (Cal Logi with not dampening usually) and blow them up. If I lose my Incubus, I lose it.
Officer weapons always get me to throw isk out the window. Especially in FW.
xSivartx is my Heavy. There are many like him, but he is my own...
So, other Logi's back off, those are my Warpoints!

THAT IS LITERALLY ALL I GET FROM SALVAGE.. And 9k330 fg and occasionally a thales, that I will later use and lose while hunting another thales like I always do

It just so happens all the good spots are in the red line (ie manus HILL).. now, if ccp actually put some good sniping spots outside of the red line then you would have the joy of melee ing him till death. I for one only snipe when I get spawn killed multiple times in different areas, when there is an annoying enemy sniper (then I snipe from their red line) or when I get Manus hill

There is something inherently stupid and broken in a game when all player needs to spend ressources (ISK, suit, salvage) to play the game while a player seldom if never gets killed and get huge amounts of kills sitting in a position that the engine ensure you cannot see, this is called an exploit, IMO the sniper ranges are like rail tank rails, somebody at CCP likes the fact that there is an exploit where you dont have to bet any resources or not a lot and get away with big salvage like The Headless Horseman.
Keep exploiting the game, you actually help CCP root out all the flaws in the game, when all your cheap tactics get cut down you will probably leave this game which will be good ridance anyway for the rest of us who really go for the objective.
This reminds me why all the snipers I know in Dust really likes to play domination, a game mode exclusively made for people that want to play duck hunt. Please stay in domination script kiddies...

Whatever you do do not use a Thales in a match I am in If you do, and you kill me I will hunt you down, and if you are in a proto armor stacked suit I will use an OB on you, I have done it before so do not test me.( ob if I am in a good squad.)

When I counter snipe, I counter snipe hard.
*gets shot by sniper (or sees Thales on the kill board)
Switch to Amarr sentinel ak0 with:
1794 EHP, 1 complex damage mod, proto tac sniper rifle
Then you:
Get shot (laugh as you have ~1500 hp remaining), aim towards the hit marker
Find the sniper, then double headshot em using a mouse.
If they are a heavy do 3 head shots

The plain jane level 5 Minmatar medium frame has 5 high slots.
And for the record public use of a Thales is totally cool with me. You will be hunted. Since you know as soon as that kill hits the feed you are being hunted then it's totally cool to do it. There is no other weapon in the game that gets that reaction.
My countersnipe gripe: I hate seeing the enemies entire body and they're are completely behind cover. All of a sudden I got fricken x-ray vision over here. So stupid.
We can pickle that.

In my opinion, Thales are the only TRUE sniper rifles in this game, due to the fact that they kill most infantry targets in one shot (you know, the way a sniper rifle is SUPPOSED TO!). I can't actually think of a game offhand where a sniper rifle instakills infantry without a headshot. And in games where they instakill with a headshot, it takes a little more skill to do.
I don't really care about games though. In real life, a proper sniper rifle definitely insta-kills someone, or the sniper simply missed.
Not a lot of "wounded by sniper" people out there honestly. |

lol I'd like to see this as an event of some sort, it'd be an amazing change of pace for Dust514. Or rather inflate suit prices to upwards of a mil per frame and watch what people would do.
Self preservation, although more prevalent in Dust than any other game I've played, could be better implemented here IMO
