Japan was fully prepared to resist invasion with pretty much EVERYONE in their country (Civilians were being trained to repel invaders as well). Despite the moral repercussions of dropping Fat Man and Little Boy, you still have to remember that the actions actually saved american lives in the long run. And that is the reason why we did it. Justified? Not really, but then again, nothing is really justified in war. You just want to get out with the least damage to your side as possible.
