It sickens me how pre-rendered this is. Did CCP at one point actually have the budget to make something look that good? Or did they just hope it would pick up enough steam for them to be able to update their game faster?
Not whining, just asking a genuine question out of curiosity?

It took CCP a couple of years for Eve to get to where it is.
I'm still laughing at the fact that they think they can pull it off again in a console. If it was on PC then maybe.
They're being set back by the system's capabilities. It's not completely their fault. Maybe it's only 70% their fault.

See people can tell your a PC gamer because you shove your superiority in the face of others, and seem to present of lack of internal security. I'd like a PS4 build though.

You do know CCP originally developed Dust on an entirely different high performance engine.....then settled for Unreal 3 when they realised Carbon would melt our consoles.

That was an early trailer built in the Carbon engine, which they originally tried to run the game on.
Unfortunately, whether because of sheer overpowered-ness or poor optimisation for the system, the engine melted several PS3s, so they had to move to something less processing-intensive in order to actually make it viable. |

To our detriment. Carbon was what attracted people to Dust 514....what we have now only traps them here.

oh ya one of the older trailers, everyone understood that a project this big is going to take time. For those of us that got the beta code we knew that, I was kind of disappointed in whatever the name of the build was before chromosome. But it was a beta so I quickly got over it. So back then it wasn't too hyped, that trailer was just showing the possibilities of dust 514. All the hype around last fanfest and the lack of progress between last fanfest and now is just not cool at all. I kind of feel like CCP could've used the money they spent making those trailers on the games development instead.

Sure but Carbon was available to build on in 2010.....nearing the end of the PS3's life span, CCP had to have realised that when they were ready to release they would be bordering next gen......

I still honestly hope we get Carbon back one day....the graphics looked so sharp and elegant, the power behind it...... even the assets like the fighter and LAV looked incredible.

Indeed it did look great, and so much more seemed to already be finished and ready.

lol that's actually what I thought after Uprisings release but more like " ok it's not too bad right now, still a lobby shooter just like in chromosome despite all the changes, looks like heavies aren't too happy though. we'll probably be able to get out of our quarters in the next update and have more things to do" oh man such disappointment nearly over a year later, nothing has changed despite these updates.

Ah, this situation reminds me of the same ordeal that Bungie faced during the pre-release of Halo 2. Well, long story short, Bungie released a trailer of Halo 2 during E3 that showcased a level of graphics and gameplay that Bungie did not yet establish with the game, and what happened was that Halo 2 was rushed out with large chunks of the game butchered.
Meanwhile, Bungie's trailer was done on the assumption that the R&D at the time was correct, it turns out that their expectations completely changed over time due to more variables and limitations being introduced as they researched the technology further, and slowly the situation melted, leading Bungie start cutting off and re-making Halo 2 into the version that was released.
Now, Dust 514 perhaps suffers from the same issue. The R&D at the time looked promising, but at the same time newer limitations and technical issues were introduced which led Dust 514 into the current state which is between being an actual tactical shooter inspired on Battlefield 2142 to what the design documents sitting on some desks at CCP say.
So, bottom line, the trailer was done with expectations of the end product before the technology that was aimed at the time met up with a concrete wall that stopped its progress and led to a short stagnation and in turn that stagnation led to what Dust 514 is now and to the future of Dust 514. |

hmmm does like a pretty similar situation , and they did delay halo 2 a bit . I never owned any of the halo games but my buddy did. We played co-op campaign for halo 2 whenever i was over and it was pretty fun.

One thing that really stuck out in that trailer was the phenomenal sound design. I wonder if CCP could revisit those and incorporate them into the game (especially the sounds of the MCC fired missiles)?
