There are worse games with better "gameplay videos" and half of that looked like it was an eve cutscene anyway. Yes it does look prettier but prefer ps3 unmelted personally. No reason why the game cant be better then that on ps4 or computer with a 2.0 version of the game.

Joel is correct, the problem is that the trailer linked in the OP was what they originally envisioned for the game, but they were used to developing for PC rather than consoles and brutally overshot in regards to what a PS3 (an 8 year old piece of hardware) can handle. |

There was a time when CCP was on a high; an arrogant, delirious high, with DUST 514 and their Carbon engine. DUST was to be an extension of the whole ambulation, Incarna concept. The development then crashed, systems crashed. CCP tucked tail, lowered their aspirations, settled for less and still took the wrong turn.
Now we have an Unreal engine based game on a console with no connection to EVE other than branding. EVE players didn't care about it, it got overhyped before development and now, console players could care less as well.
Right now this is a massive salvage effort with a big do-over process taking up most of the development.

Carbon is a backbone engine mostly you can plug other engines into it or take parts of carbon and shove them into similar other engines.
UE3 engine (not to be confused with UDK) we have is excessively heavily modified that unfortunately cannot be ported as is over to UE4 without significant amount of work. It be easier to port in parts of UE4 at this point.

This is not a big deal frankly. We know they had Unread Engine 4 in house, also Dust was originally demoed on their own engine not UE4. And they use PC development boxes in places that are not Shanghai. Although what they use in Shanghai is unknown I would be surprised if Shanghai was ever involved considering the timing.
Why you would care about something like this is odd to the extreme. You have a misplaced sense of sick as a pretty trailer is something studios do; It gets the PR, external press, developers and potential customers all excited about the various things that might happen.
It has only been the last few years where actual game play footage was important to show in trailers. Considering the age this was done before that became common place. Not to mention Dust didn't exist at that level back then.
EVE shows all these pretty, pretty pod peeps that are the results of surgeons and the higher level of functionality of their own products on PCs. They are not game play for EVE, merely advertising. That is the same for the trailer. Getting upset about advertising pictures means you need to take a walk, outside, away from video games. You might want to pack a lunch.
As far as the trailer sickening you is merely a side benefit.
And so it goes.

And the entire point of PR and promo trailers is to hype up your target audience, so you get people and most importantly investors interested in your game and your company's plans.

I'd like a PS4 build though. i used to think the console decision was good but he's right it is holding back the game. we can't have more players it already lags. there's really no hope for open world play on PS3 which is really what dust should be. we're stuck playing the redline with no end in sight. system resources are at an all time strain. i wish it would tax my sounds instead it taxes my frame rate.

Look at this demo from 2009 Fanfest. I really hope we have interesting objective-based game modes with a commander in the MCC managing the deployment of assets like scanners, etc. Capturing null cannons is pretty shallow and lame, capturing mainframes to power your MCC's capacitors so it can recharge shields is a lot more dynamic and compelling.
When we get huge maps with lots of players, I hope we move in this direction for fights.

If it was me... I'd get the balance on all the racial suits/vehicles/mods nailed in on PS3 with the current user base while I built a PS4 client.
Then I'd run them both at the same time for 6 months to a year, the only difference being a big graphical upgrade on the PS4 version, and get FW and planetary conquest in 0.0 working with a better eve-integration.
Then I'd launch on PS4 only and up the player count and add things only the PS4 could deal with.

That is an extremely old video dating back to 2009 long before CCP ditched the carbon architecture in favor of the Unreal Engine. And as others have said and as CCP has repeatedly said, that is just a vision of the future.

Dust was never developed in carbon. That trailer isn't done in carbon either, it well predates the first demos of carbon by nearly two years. IIRC at that same exact fanfest we saw that trailer we got to watch the devs play through their first barely alpha build and boy was it ugly made minecraft look like it was running on crytek. Dust has always been running off an unreal engine, in fact they got into a little squabble because they had started dev before actually licensing it. As a side now a dev now long gone once mentioned that Dust development had been taking longer than expected because all the art was being done first for unreal 4 then down scaled for unreal 3, even if true its likely that this practice has been scrapped in order to try to rectify how far off the dust dev time table has been pushed.
Anyways, Carbon showed up a few years later making its debut for the new character creator in eve and then Captain's Quarters, which was really a dry run since it was at the time planned to have World of Darkness running the carbon engine. Carbon can do some really neat character model rendering, the tech demos they gave at Fanfest were pretty damn impressive. Unfortunately, carbon is a giant resource hog, computers were dying right and left just running the tiny captain's quarters. With the Incarna debacle halting all resources in walking in stations (thus carbon development) carbon was largely scrapped. The final blow was when they quietly announced that WoD had scrapped all their carbon work and dropped the engine.
In summary Dust was never meant for Carbon and Carbon is dead, no resources at all are being devoted in fixing its problems and it will largely only exist as the current Eve character creator and tiny pointless room, any future walking in stations tech will likely never use it assuming the eve population ever lets them explore that area again.
Speculation: Any revisit to eve walking in stations would likely involve scrapping all Carbon related assets as using which ever Unreal engine that Dust is currently using to allow better interfacing walking around stations. (having 2 engines interacting in the same space would be a nightmare) |

Sounds like a plan. I would add a view things. PVE for PS3 and 4. As well as bigger matches on the PS4, like 32vs32.

Ya seems like it , but even so it seems we wouldn't be getting much more than we've gotten so far anyways if they didn't make most of those trailers.

The WoD team are actually responsible to both creating the game, and making the engine run better and easier to develop for. They have shown the tools they created last FanFest.
Carbon will run WoD.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.
