Most people will make the mistake of using the cloak to attack when its best suited for an escape after you already alerted the enwmy of your presance by killing a few.
These forums must be located in the Californin country side, there is whine as far as the eye can see.

The cloak will help scouts cover open ground, move around cities, and evade/escape.
As far as actually killing, a good scout should never be seen by its prey whether he has a cloak or not.

It should only be used for a offense when you need to assault a room with only 1 or 2 doorways and they are both being watched.
Sadly, it might not be good for that if AA tracks you as you walk by nod the shimmer is really bright. Your gonna need a lot of chaos to sneak by.

Knowing how CCP balances(or lack thereof),I think this has HUGE potential to be a gamebreaking feature.
I played enough Crysis 2 MP to see how cheap it is,and there is the same potential for it here.Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the feeling that the cloak is going to produce more QQ threads than the RRs. |

Really the cloak will most usefull for basic movemen to get to a position or to get close to a null cannon. Climbing ladders and crossing open spaces will be much easier with a cloak.
For offensive actions its quite too limited for escaping as well (ok against stupid players it will work) as the reticle will reveal your posiion by turning red.

You can introduce anything to get QQ. You can give them a perfectly balanced weapon or the ability to change your weapon color and they will QQ. This fanbase is all about whining and misinformation.
I didn't play Crysis 2 MP, but the Crysis 3 version was decently implemented. However, the "strong shimmer" state was way too common. And don't forget that Crysis uses dynamic cloak. You have a few seconds of cloaking time and can activate and deactivate the cloak with split-second reaction. Using the cloak badly (by being a dumbfuck who fires from cloak) easily costs you all of your cloak energy. Meanwhile, the Dust cloak is a very static system. You push a button and then you are invisible for a while. Any dynamic tactics will **** with your interface, except for maybe melee + recloak. You also have at least thirty seconds of cloak, in contrast to the constantly changing drain in Crysis (Which caps out at about a minute while standing still). Plus, Dust has far bigger maps than Crysis 3.
The real question is how hard the cloak is to see with low shimmer. High shimmer will probably be way too obvious. Other than that, it seems very gimped and situational, in contrast to the Crysis and Planetside approach. |

I'm excited about cloaking and am looking forward to getting stuck in. My main is sitting at around 34 mill (37 after payout) and will be my ewar merc. Speccing into Gal and Cal scouts and keeping Gal logi for the scans.
Gonna grab it on this merc too but he needs some core stuff taken care of first (thanks 3 mill SP payout!).

Although I plan to immediately train cloaking to 5 I don't think I'll equip it on all my scout fits. Good scouts already operate without one and having two equipment slots for uplinks+RE, nanohives+RE, RE+RE, uplinks+scanner and other combinations will really making scouting interesting. Once a scout has staked an area to hunt for his prey the cloak may not be used very much.

I'll mainly use the cloak simply for crossing the many large, barren landscapes without fear of constantly getting one-shot by redline snipers.
As for anything else, I do just fine currently without a cloak so I don't see it becoming a priority for me. |

Yes, you uncloak. And then you can instantly mash the button again because melee doesn't magically put your rifle in your hands. You still have the cloak, which will react to your input without the selection wheel. |

I had this idea as well. I call it the Sugar Ray fit.
However, this is mostly a fun idea and so far doesn't seem realistic. Even with myofibrills on, you will have to do a lot of hitting. And since you decloak every time you melee, you have to recloak.
Plus, given that the shimmer will make you visible when moving in CQC, there is no guarantee you won't be visible enough not to get mowed down before you can pummel someone to death.
As a whole, I think the way that this was carried out minimizes the odds of a cloak being OP (ie the shimmer, not being able to use weapons while cloaked, needing 50% cloak stamina left in order to use).

I look forward to it tremendously. I have been waiting for something like this since closed beta so I'm a happy clam at this point.
I know a lot of people will have disagreements as to whether the cloak should only be used defensively or offensively, but being that I am an experienced scout in Dust with years of FPS experience with games like Halo and other games that incorporated cloaks, I can say that the cloak can be used either way based on this experience depending on the play style of the player.
Honestly, you and only you have the right to choose how to use the cloak. No one else should have the right to tell you how to use your suit. If you want to a cloak on a logi suit, that's up to you. The logi suit will be gimped but you can use it none the less. Or you can use the cloak on a suit that is built for it like the scout suit.
Honestly, I can definitely see the Minmatar Scout being the go to suit for speed, stealth and hacking since now it's been confirmed that you can hack with the cloak active and the Minmatar will have the hacking bonus on top of that.

Didnt like it in killzone. Didnt like killzone period. But my hope is the timer runs slow enough to where it wont be op. Optically the game(without hd) can be pretty hard. Cloaks only add to that. Hopefully it will be niche/sniper class mainly.

People will say the same thing for every thing such as MTACs, speeders, MAVs, drone units, market pvp, PvE, etc. There is no point in holding something back just because of a simple fear of what others will do with it. Just let it be and see what happens.

However, Dust TTK is actually very high. It's only an issue because of the dual-analog setup, as opposed to mouse controls.
Edit: Disregard post if I understood your post wrongly. TTK high/low is kind of confusing.

- Scouts use overshadowed by other Frames (yet still allow cloaks to be useable by them)
