Since its installment, the Academy was a failed containment for new players as it did not provide them with additional selection of game modes and had a silly WP cap to graduate. New players were kept under the illusion that upon graduating they might stand some chance of playing against a few vets. However, the vast majority ended up getting butchered over and over again while CCP remainded dense as they believed that a low WP cap and "New Player Experience" (**** btw) was enough. For months, many of the vets insisted that WP cap should be raised by a huge amount and even remove SP cap for early players but so far there's no hint of a good incoming change. By removing the SP cap, early players won't have to put up with this game for longer than they should so that they quit much earlier and move on to something else.

Give newer players between two and three million SP to start off and lift the weekly cap until they hit nearer 10mill SP.
Without the Battle Academy you wouldn't get all the douche bag players going to farm newbies for easy ISK as well. |

I completely agree, any new players who join this game will realize the terror and inequality after leaving the Battle academy within a few matches makes Battle Academy extremely useless.

No way, I say everyone just do their part. I have been sitting on an alt that has around 1.5 mil SP. I need to vent my frustration of being proto stomped on my main (which has around 6.5) by going into the academy and slaughtering everyone unfairly. This way, they get a taste of being hopelessly outgunned AND I get to pad my new KDR sniper. Nothing says, I am a member of a team like 43 charged sniper rifle kills and 0 deaths from the redline.
*Hey, you think I'll get some officer weapons from the academy? It would be great to play my 2nd match with a Thales :P

I made another alt last night then graduated after 2 games just to be proto stomped by squads while I only have 600k sp...I'm a good player but I found out the sp difference is Wayyy to much, especially for solo players. I could get on my main and proto stomp but what fun is that?

not to mention the fact that they initially started off with a 12 000 WP requirement to graduate and then that requirement was brought down to 1200 WP for those new players.

I said this same thing a while ago, though the idea that a low WP graduation requirment being the problem is laughable. At this point i'd imagine nearly everyone in BA is not new. When I brought the issue up months ago, I was bashed for "picking on noobs". Now that everyone is out of the closet with their BA antics, BA is a running punchline, and raising WP grad requirments helps the isk farmers, not new players.
Make isk non transferable when you are in the BA, and wipe out any isk upon graduation, forcing players to spend isk on equipment before graduation, then the community can tell itself it might be starting to care about new players, as opposed to their wallets/entertainment.
Even with this, many would still go to the BA to stomp.

They need to make match making work or we will just continue to see most of the new players gone after their first encounter with a full squad of even ADV level players.
Until then lets save the newbs time and run them off in the first 1-2 matches. |

Of course I agree, this seems like a rather good first step.
Elite 24m+ SP Upper Tier 18-24m SP Veteran 12-18m SP Experienced Tier 8-12m SP Lower Tier 4-8m SP Novice (replace battle academy) .5-4m SP
Dividing the game based on SP is one way t fix the match making process when combined into a # or effective% based on SP + average WP (when a team of 5 is together, the top 3 player averages will give the team a rating).
Players can be paired in a match with a group +/- 1 relative to their SP or SP+WP (effective rating).
Edit: A player should receive 1 re-spec as a graduation gift at 4m SP and must be played before he reaches 8m SP. A player under 4m asap should also be allowed to use any std weapon or sidearm. |

New players should start with 1 million SP and be uncapped until 5. Replace the academy with the option to play only against people under 5 mil or go into the general population.

Incorporated into battle academy should be an active tutorial or boot camp maybe an active story mission that introduces new players to all the battle mechanics and how they work. Afterwards as stated by others new players should be in academy for longer before graduation.
Or have better matchmaking making so under skilled players can face more lower tier players. As it is now two good matches and your out of there. I don't blame vets for using what they spent countless hours grinding to skill into but there is a great divide between skilled players with leveled skills an suits versus freshmen.
Dust could go the route of other true MMO's and have a ranking system to place combatants, however considering both FW & PC are open combat modes this could only flourish in pubs. The problems that arise in this type of setup however is that the higher up in ranking you go the less people you will have to play against because...
a) At the highest tiers competition becomes centered around maintaining or increasing said rank an alot of people eventually tire of this grind.
b) On the over spectrum you will have highly skilled an leveled players purposely losing matches if they rank up so they are demoted back to low tiers to stomp with little retaliation.
Apart from all this maybe EVE has the final solution for this dilemma, so how does EVE handle the new player experience versus vets.
P.S. @OP I don't agree that battle academy should be removed it is a step in the "right" direction but it needs more tools before it can be called a success.
