Scanning Table 1.8
Google Docs: LINK HTML version: LINK
Column A describes 'Scanner Types', their background colour depends on their suit/type:
- Heavies have a light yellow background.
- Medium suits have a dark yellow background.
- Logistics suits have an orangey background.
- Scouts have a light purple background.
- Caldari Scouts have dark purple background.
- Active scanners have a red background.
- Active scanners with the Gallente Logistics bonus have a dark red background.
Column B describes the 'Scan Precision' of the scanners. Column C-R describes, in pairs of columns, the number of, and type of, dampeners you need to fit on your suit to escape detection for the scanner listed in columns A-B and the 'Scan Profile' of your suit with those dampeners fitted. The background colour for columns C-R is fixed to the number of, and type of, dampeners fitted, light colours for basic dampeners and dark colours for complex. The hue is changed to show that more slots are needed.
Caveats:
- There is (or used to be) a bug in which the order stacking penalties are (were) calculated, if you equipped a basic and a complex module it would put the stacking penalty on the complex module instead of the basic one. This bug is not taken into account in the table. So CCP if you are reading this please comment on wether it is still in the game or not. (So that I can update the table to take it into account if necessary.)
- The dampening bonus from cloaking devices are assumed to not incur stacking penalties on dampening modules, though there has been no word on wether or not they will, or will not, have stacking penalties. Again CCP if you could comment on this so that I can update the table to reflect how the game works.
- The table is based on the preview values for 1.8 and as such they could still be changed before 1.8 is released, if they do change I'll try to update the table as soon as possible.
Comparison 1.7 -> 1.8:
Commandos & Sentinels
- Scan Distance 10 -> 10
- Scan Profile 65 -> 60
- Scan Precision 60 -> 55
Assaults
- Scan Distance 10 -> 10
- Scan Profile 50 -> 50
- Scan Precision 55 -> 50
Logistics
- Scan Distance 10 -> 15
- Scan Profile 50 -> 50
- Scan Precision 50 -> 45
Scouts
- Scan Distance 16 -> 20
- Scan Profile 45 -> 35
- Scan Precision 45 -> 45

Currently, either the reverse stacking penalty, or rounding up is present which means a medium frame needs 2c instead of 1c+1e to avoid 28db scanners. This has been confirmed numerous times. I hope it's fixed in 1.8.

You are right, I'm hoping it is fixed in 1.8 too.

I find the reduction on scan precision with the medium suits welcoming.

Updated the OP with the new change. (Scouts Scan Precision 45->40) Added a table where cloakig devices count towards the stacking penalty of profile dampeners.

I'm thinking that the stacking penalty error for negative modifiers will probably still apply in 1.8. I'm also thinking that stacking penalties will apply for the cloak, but even if it doesn't, cloak + 1 complex will still have the same dB value of 18 either way, since it's rounded to the nearest whole number.
Hopefully I will be proven wrong on both counts :) |

More nuances to the scanning system is nice, hopefully they'll add more E-WAR soon.

I love the table and use it a lot, so thanks very much. Just one point though. I have heard that profiles and precision get rounded to the nearest whole number and that a tie will favor the scanner, i'm not sure if this is true or not though. Does that mean that a scout with 2 complex precision enhancers (23.79) can scan a cloaked scout (23.63) as both would round to 24 and favor the scanner? This would change the table somewhat. |

I was looking for this forever lol CCP should sticky this.
Regarding the rounding up bug, that isn't a bug as far as I know. Eventually, it's better off for the game since there could be problems if left at decimals (I.e. having .00000001 hp left). I turn all my floating values into integer values to avoid that. What the computer does is that instead of rounding down if it's closer to a certain number, it rounds up even it may be 20.01 (un which case it would be 21 with the new value). That said, I'm not sure if CCP does that since it's possible to have 0 hp left and still survive. The health being shown are integers, but the actual health we have are floating values. Then again, I understand for having floating values around since skills maybe leave them like that (like having 2.6 armor repair). If so, why won't they show actual health rounded up with certain significant figures? Last I checked, that was possible.
Just what the heck are you doing, CCP? I'm curious now lol |

Haerr wrote:What if cloaking devices and profile dampeners have stacking penalties when added together? I looked at both the scanning tables, and found this:
A non-Gallente scout with one enhanced profile dampener has a signature of 19 dB when cloaked, one point below the precision of a prototype Duvolle focused active scanner.
If there was a stacking penalty involved, the signature of the non-Gallente scout would have been 20 dB with one enhanced dampener and cloak, enough for a Duvolle focused active scanner to pick him up.
So I got noob cavman to help me with this specific fit(thanks!) to see if there was indeed a stacking penalty, he was using a Caldari scout with one enhanced dampener with max profile dampening skills and a cloak, while I used a Gallente scout with a Duvolle focused scanner. We did the test a few times, and on each time the scan attempt of the Focused scan was prevented when cavman was cloaked.
So to summarize, no, there isn't a stacking penalty when you use profile dampeners with a cloak and vice versa. I hope this helped you.

More people really need to read this. In so many threads you see people saying 'just stack precision enhancers to combat scouts' when the cold reality is that unless you are another scout, you have few if any options to scan scouts down, and thats assuming the scout choose to not fit enough damps to become unscannable!!

This needs a lift! Really appreciate the work you-Šve done here!
Two questions remain from my perspective: 1) Are the values rounded up? 17,72 -> 18 , 21,35 -> 22 , 21,35 -> 23 2) What does does matching number result in? Cloaker has 17.71 sig and my precisions is 17.71 too. Pick-a-boo?? |

Where have you been, Scout!?
1) Values are rounded to the nearest whole number. Tested and Confirmed (1.8). 2) Ties go to the Hunter. Tested and Confirmed (1.8).
Now get your a** to the Barbershop. And get educated!
