That range amplificatiin and precision enhancement were great ideas for sp lied.
1 advanced scanner>lvl 3 for both easily.

Passive scans are more fun though once you level them up... much more fun~ No warning, no sounds, just the slash of knives and a name on the killfeed. Shhhhhh, it'll be over soon... your proto suit doesn't have to suffer anymore...
Sometimes I miss never seeing tanks in a battle... then I remember the mystical flying soma, and I can't help but smile.

He will be wrong in 1.8. But for now he is completely correct.

The electronic module skills are are only useful for gallente scouts but they ARE useful. Stack 4 complex range extenders and you get something around 100m passive scan. Stick on a complex precision enhancer and you're a walking proto scanner with no warning and can shoot at the same time. Granted you'll be paper thin and won't be able to fit anything that'll deal a lot of damage but you'll be able to see EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.

IMO you need both range incr. and gallente scout at level 5 before it gets useful (and only for CQC). Add a complex module (or two) to that and it's pretty sweet.
Guess it's only viable on scouts though, since other suits need to dedicate almost all their slots to the scanner before it's worth it... They really ought to increase the passive range on larger suits a bit. |

Just the passive skills themselves are nice to have on a Heavy suit. (And if you're playing on a fuzzy, little, shot out piece of **** TV they're a ******* life saver.)

Except his point is about SP investment- those skills are still a great SP choice. It's going to pay off big time. |

Technically not a proto scanner, you will only scan down to 32.4. But yes it's nice.
If you do go pure passive scanner you will be paperthin but can fit pretty much anything you want in the weapon, nade, eq slots. Range Amplifiers, precision enhancers, and dampeners are all fitting friendly. And extremely cheap.

Passive and active scanning have somewhat different purposes and If you can't see the utility of the passive skills then ignore them. Those that use them will have an advantage over you.

passive: You know where they are, they don't know where you are. great for firefights as a scout "oh you think you're going to be clever and camp in the corner of the A building? Cook grenade, door you weren't looking at, and gun you down before you even know I exist
Active: DEEEEERRRRRP I AM NEEDING OF CRUTCH! also, the enemy team knows you're there, and the enemy scouts know you're an easy target.
If you hear the words "WORTH IT!" look about, something hilarious just happened.

Shhhhhh, it'll be over soon... your proto suit doesn't have to suffer anymore... i know right? that's why I love my scout gk.0. with scout 5 and range amps to 5, it has like a 32 meter scan range passively. pretty much only other scouts even have a chance of sneaking up on me, and even that rarely happens.

That kind of min/max fit might have a niche role but just gaining a few extra meters of passive and a few extra decibels of detection can make the difference in seeing that surprise ambush on the other side of a wall.
