And not much is known about 1.8. Threads in the feedback and ideas like this one and this one give us glimpses at possibilities for 1.8, but minimal comments from devs. We can only assume they are reading our feedback. The images in those threads haven't been updated with any new data so our ability to continue to provide feedback is hampered.
The respec discussion thread that was created contains only one dev post: the initial one stating
CCP LogiBro wrote:Note that this is not a confirmation that we will or will not be providing a respec in 1.8, this is merely a venue to discuss it. No answer, one way or another, in regards to the respec. Some players feel alienated by CCP, others feel outright hostility for refusing to comment on what is a fairly one-dimensional issue: do the changes in 1.8 warrant a respec? If no answer can be given, can players be told what is going through CCP's collective minds? Let us be a part of the dialogue. As of right now, we are simply talking to ourselves.
PC locking is crippling an entire game mode at the moment. Corporations gain millions of ISK with no risk; essentially a slap in the face of the "High Reward = High Risk / Low Reward = Low Risk." model that Eve Online worked so hard to create. Little discussion of possible solutions is taking place, unless it is being done with CPM, who aren't commenting on the topic. The effects of the runaway ISK mint that is PC 1.0 will cause these elite corps to the be defacto rulers of the soon-to-be(?) eve marketplace. Perhaps CCP is counting on PC 2.0 to correct the issues, but we only know what you tell us and so far that isn't much at all.
HAV's continue to steam roll. Swarm launchers feel like you may as well be firing bottle rockets at a Humvee. Scouts... well not much to be said that hasn't already been said. Perhaps 1.8 will give you folks some love. Who knows. Not me. Devblogs have been promised, but not delivered.

You don't get it. Its not going to fix anything. If you look at the problem, the real problem, you will see it is CCP. They keep us so focused on game breaking garbage that we never notice that nothing really changes. Every patch it's just shuffled about. Same garbage just reordered.

Good summary of most of the top issues but devs usually go dead silent around this time before updates, until patch notes are released. I assume they are reading and discussing our ideas the best they can but don't want to start a feeding frenzy on the forum this early. |

But is that what we should expect of them? Making changes without input from the community is one of the reasons 1.7's vehicle "balancing" went so poorly.

Lighten up dood. No one is forcing you to play this game. I think adding the other suits that were missing is a big step. The last couple updates have been pretty solid except with the usual balancing issues. |

True enough, I'm just stating the fact that the silence isn't unusual. Certainly I'd like more feedback but they are probably busy implementing what they have now. What would you like them to change at this point about 1.8? |

If I knew what 1.8 contained I might be able to answer that question. Unfortunately, even though we have threads asking for our feedback, they don't commit to the content anytime in the near future. For all we know this stuff could be scheduled for the first expansion.

That is a failure on CCP's part, but not the reason for it happening. The poor vehicle/AV balancing could have been avoid if the changes were posed to the community beforehand. I'm sure the AV crowd would have had a great deal to say about the nerfs in 1.7. As a SL user I know I would have...

go up and read my earlier post. CCP will always have an imbalance. Its for selling boosters and aurum. If we had the gear we wanted we could just play and have fun. There will always be something for the people that chase k/d and OP gear. They are the ones that spend money. At a point that easy cheese needs to be changed because people are skilled in. New Op gear is either dusted off or introduced. People spend to get into that. Over and over. Having the merc you want and making informed decisions has very little to do with it.

That happens with every game. There are always tryhards that will do anything to make themselves feel better by using the best gear. Are you suggesting that CCP does it on purpose to make money?

"And not much is known about 1.8", nope, much is known. 3 new sidearm weapons, 2 new racial light suits (Caldari and Aarr) and their scout specializations, 3 new heavy suits (Gallente, Minmatar, Caldari) and their commando and sentinel specializations.
On the subject of scouts, they're getting cloaking equipment (to which they'll get a bonus to) and a 2nd equipment slot. I don't know how you can say "Who knows" on the subject when you just linked a big source of info on the subject.
We also know there will be a mass driver damage buff, and a laser rifle buff. Also a rail rifle and combat rifle nerf (and maybe other weapons) to increase the time-to-kill.
We also know war points will be awarded fr damaging vehicles.
There is actually a lot that we do know about 1.8.
As for the respec thing, yeah, it is frustrating not to hear what they're thinking of on the subject. I made my case as rationally and as best as I could (and I think I did a good job https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1849419#post1849419 ). The community is behind respecs, so I really don't know what the holdup is.
The PC thing does suck, there is a bit of news on the subject: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1854942#post1854942 not that promising, bu its something.
The AV/HAV thing is indeed a serious problem.
Its not even the month of the patch yet. As much as I want devblogs, its not like their late with devblogs, so I don't see why you should be mad or concerned about it.

Having a poorly balanced game causes you to lose players. Without players no one will buy your aurum gear and boosters. This is a stupid business decision and no marketing team would try to create a steady revenue stream using the method you described. It might create a burst of revenue for a short period or time, but then it would dwindle and eventually die as the player base left. It would make CCP far more money to create a good game that lasts (see: Eve Online) than a bad game that fails.

we do lose players. The monthly cycle is where FoTm came from. Letting us skill up and use the weapons we want would be bad for business. Why would we buy boosters if we matured enough to work on other aspects of the game? Did you ever notice that GET AUR is at the top of every list in the market?

To max out more non-essential but still useful skills, skill into other dropsuit roles, become vehicle pilots, and try out other weapons. Plus grinding SP is not the future focus of Dust. The grind may be a large portion of the game now, but it won't be forever. CCP will rely on the metagame and politics inherent in the New Eden universe to keep players in the long term. Not an SP grind.

Yes. Companies are in business to make money. In other news, water is wet. Again, CCP will make more of the aforementioned money if they create a good game, than a bad one.

T-minus three days until March and we've had one devblog featuring CCP FishWalker. While I appreciate hearing from some of the quieter team members in Shang Hai, this devblog contains precisely nothing of what we need to hear (see OP for specifics).
We've been promised devblogs "in the weeks leading up to 1.8". If we assume the latest 1.8 will be rolled out is 3/31 then we will not be given any information until mid-March? CCP is aware that a dozen titles launch in March for PS3, right? Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Dark Souls 2, BioShock Infinite GÇÿBurial at Sea Episode 2GǦ (DLC but still). Destiny is not being released in March, but if you hope to retain some of the playerbase that might leave for Destiny you are going to want to keep us engaged.
Want to know a terrific way to keep us from being engaged? Tell us nothing and keep feeding us lines about repecs being discussed internally.

Planetside 2 in april, the 2nd, ps4
