During PC matches, we have enemy players with dropships midfield before half of our own team even loads into the game. This can only be attributed to a high-speed internet connection and solid state HD and provides an unfair advantage to these players.
CCP, this is what you need to do to fix the issue. If anything, in PC matches to start. Program a 15 second game delay for all players. Other mainstream games do it...I have faith you can, too. This will allow all systems to load the needed data and it will level the playing field for both teams. It is absolutely ridiculous that one force can have troops at a mid-field objective before 15 of the opposing players even see the initial deployment screen. Scrublord. Troll. |

Based on my experience with PC, you could not be more wrong.
Those seconds are the MOST important of the game -- defenders (and the uplinks they lay) are at a huge advantage in this game, and even moreso in PC with coordinated defense. |

They who? "They" developers, should guarantee a game as fair as possible. It actually happens to play with crappy connections and you can't do anything about it (my case). So, yeah, if they want to have a wider range of players they should work more on lag compensation and optimizations for HDD.

I was looking at how an SSD works compared to a regular hard drive and realized that there is no fix for this (not that this is a problem). Regardless of the spawn timer, the SSD will allow people to spawn in sooner because their game will load faster. The more recent games use the hard drive as additional temp storage along with the RAM. Being able to read from the drive quicker (the way an SSD allows) makes everything run a lot smoother. Especially since this game runs purely off the hard drive.
I hope im not talking out of my a$$ here, but thats how I understand it.

That's why you don't "wait for everyone to load", you create a 15 second spawn delay. |

I don't think you really understand how SSD's work and why they perform better. I also feel you failed to read the entire thread to develop a proper argument, leading non-sense you've contributed...thus wasting space on CCP's forum database.
Let me break the mechanics down barney style, special for you SgtMajSquish MLBJ. Then maybe you will be back up to speed with the premise of this argument.
Hard drives have spinning magnetic platter in which data is written. To read this data, a read/write head will moveit can reach from the inside of the platter to the outside. Imagine a doughnut SgtMajSquish MLBJ. From the center the bottom is the distant we need to be able to span. This is done with the read/write arm.
Next, the platter spins since this read/write head on a read/write arm can't move to any point at will on the platter. A drive controller will coordinate the data stream request and move the head to the proper sector on the platter to read data. When drives are fragmented it may need to jump to multiple spots to read the entire request. Keep that part in mind. It's important SgtMajSquish MLBJ. A seek time is where the read/write arm positions the read/write heads to the spot it needs to be and can take around 12 milliseconds. Then there is rotational latency where the up/down position is found but the sector needed is not under the head. This can take 5 milliseconds. The read time is how fast the drive spins the sector under the read/write head and is negligible compared to the previous times.
Now that may not take long if the entire data request is laid out in sequential order, which is probably not likely. So for every jump you are adding 10-20 milliseconds to read. Here, some pictures from a class I took a couple years ago may help you understand SgtMajSquish MLBJ. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/5ewqf.png
Now, an SSD doesn't have a rotating platter. It pulls the data state(1/0) straight from circuitry. So you the seeking speed is negligible. There are other factors but this post is already getting too long.
So, the original argument, I am bringing back to light is the seconds gained by an SSD. I have an SSD now and after playing on both sides of the fence, I can tell you it is unfair when you have a 4-6 second jump on spawning into the game before most do.

Yes, PC's are critical in the beginning moments. There's a previous thread where we talk about an SSD squad of mercs setting up shop(and spawners) to killbox the other team. |

Slowing the drive is unnecessary. Instead, people are proposing a cooling period between the match loading and being able to call down RDVs and/or leave the veil. This, in theory, prevents one side loading in faster and gaining the unfair advantage of an early deployment.

There's a previous thread where we talk about an SSD squad of mercs setting up shop(and spawners) to killbox the other team at the beginning. The people saying it's all about tactics are missing the point that there is a small disadvantage. A battle should be the wits, skill and coordination of a team against another. When you killbox the team from the beginning this model is lost.
Well there shouldn't be a "killbox" at all in this game. Unfortunately the spawning still needs some tweaks as mentioned in many other threads. But even then the SSD vs a button masher to spawn in would be maybe a second difference in the team game. |

Thanks for the lesson in hard drives. The issue that people are having with spawning is that on the standard hard drive i could count to 5 before i spawned after the timer stated 0seconds. This has been removed since i swapped the hard drive. There was always a couple seconds of lag whenever the initial wave of vehicle were spawned in. That also is now gone due to the SSD. IMO I suggest everyone who is serious about this game to swap over as it is one of the easiest things to do in the world. Now this spawn jump only works when you have a squad behind you. Many times in domination I have gotten to the objective and been forced out due to the fact that the rest of the team is still 30 seconds out. The load speed of Dust with an SSD cannot be fixed. It can be reduced from the boost that it is now, but as long as games are using vRAM the SSD will always be superior.

I don't see the removal of the warbarge as a good thing. It just leads to more unorganized battles. At least with the warbarge people had a chance to squad up, now it's a free for all if you don't join the battle in a squad. But this is a discussion for another thread.
