Stacking penalties will apply. With four complex you'll get 107.17 meters. |

In terms of passive scanning, 107m is very good, especially since passive scanning itself is far better than active scanning. For most people though it'll be overkill and unneeded. For example, three complex would give you 95m and two would give you 75m.
I've been running a passive scan scout and for city maps, 45m is plenty. This is even without active scans from squad support.
I'll most likely only run one or two range amps on my suit when 1.8 hits. |

This, plus the fact that data is constantly refreshed and is thus 100% accurate (within its scan precision) makes passive scanning so much better than active. |

If I were you, I wouldn't bother skilling either of these up if I wasn't going to run scout myself. You most likely won't be able to get your precision low enough to detect scouts after 1.8 anyway, and the range is very limited without the scout's range bonuses. |

I'm curious to know if walls and other visual obstructions interfere with scanning; when playing as my ninja scout, I usually lurk inside of enclosed areas and wait for enemies to approach a node to hack. Occasionally, I'll see the red dot appear on my map but most of the time I get nothing until the enemy either starts the hack or enters my field of vision. Conversely, I've been in matches as a heavy and, when guarding a node from the top of the stairs, I'll have the enemy begin the hack from less than 10 meters away. I have to move down the stairs a bit before I can actually target the red (and have him appear on my map.)
I've also had opponents run right by both my heavy and scout suit to reach an objective and never notice me.
Chances are, on your minja you weren't close enough to an enemy for him to appear on your passive scans (16m without modules or skills), or when they were close enough, you already had them in LOS anyway. As a heavy, your scan precision is so high that you could only passively scan other heavies within 10m of you.
When your passive scans are skilled up, you see through just about everything so long as an enemy is within your range. Some have said you can't see through terrain, but I haven't found this to be the case (i.e. I can still passively scan a guy who's hidden in a ditch in the ground). |

A lot of things, but 107 is pretty impressive. Believe me, that won't help you when you're 10 metres near a red dot behind a wall and you don't know its a heavy.
Just means you gotta lead with one of those remote explosive contact grenades that fatties are complaining about ;)
