Ok, gents, we asked for cheaper tanks OR tougher tanks, but got both AND a skill tree that only asks a couple mil to get a good fit.
I don't like being an accidental FOTM fa99ot, and I don't think any of you do, either.
So, what do we want? Nerf tanks? Buff AV? Increase prices? Make SP sinks?

For starters, AV needs to be buffed.

Also, in addition to a price increase or nerf, we need stasis webifiers to slow down tanks so they don't just quickly escape and regenerate like nothing happened.

I also thi webs would fix all our problems, tanks just acelerate and move to fast, you get a decent hit on one and they are across the map hugging their redline supply depo in a second. Also put in mountng and dismounting delays, and doble the vehical recal time. |

An AV buff would be most helpful. I know firsthand how bad AV is as I used to run forge and swarms all the time months ago. Swarms need to be fixed. Tanks also need something done with their speed.

cut the blaster range, if they are going to fight infantry they should be able to fight back. Remove the warning from prox mines. make retreating a threat. No more hauling ass after things get too hairy, you have to make a slow methodical retreat or risk destruction. Fixes most problems within the redline.

Start with roll back the old charge time of the forges. As a forger it's all need to be done.
Once you try "HMG-FAT" you never get back...

Just buff AA weaponry and slow down tanks. I know there is that graphix issue with invisible swarmies, but that not fault of communty. Its Badly made optimilization by CCP, thats reason why i dont agree with all this nerfing on infantry in way to make Armors more effective.

Limit one hardener per vehicle.
Have a uniform uptime and cooldown amongst the tiers. Have resistance increase as you go up the tiers.
Slow tanks by 25% if not more.
Let all turrets, large and small, keep their power.
Add some freaking dispersion to large and small blasters.
Iffy on a price increase if all the above are implemented. |

Why don't they buff AV to not 1.6 stats but slightly there, since HAVs are able to tank a lot more due to the new Hardeners. Increase the HAV price to 120,000+ as well as module price. Also tankers can not fit more than one Hardener.
That's all I can really think of. Pretty hard to balance something like this without breaking something. 1.6 I was able to tank swarms and Forge Guns decently though without much problems, It was just too much ISK was the problem.
Now I tank rarely, since what I like is considered a scrub tactic

Swarms need a buff. Forges are fine, in my mind. AV nades shouldn't be able to threaten a tank at all (unless you're almost dead).
Tier hardener effectiveness with meta. We don't need militia noobs making tanks as strong as proto tanks just to ambush in the 20-30secs their hardeners are active. They make noobs superheros (I should know ).
Tank prices are fine. 300/500k for a good, skilled ADV/Proto tank, respectively, will be fine once AV gets a little buff and lower tiered mods get nerfed a little.
Remove 1 module slot of the opposite strength for militia tanks (Sica loses a low, Soma a high) and fit pre-fitted turrets, sucking up more PG/CPU. With lower powered mods, fewer slots, and noobs camping in tanks, they should be fine, as is.
Reduce rail turret range to 350m effective and max 450 drop off. 600m is a ridiculous range for our maps size, and the fact that they don't lose accuracy or damage over that range is preposterous. 350m is a far enough range to stay out of range of forges and other tanks and will limit redline sniping effectiveness.

Yeah I don't like the way tanks are now, I dislike the fact that anyone can call in a tank now that isn't much weaker than a fully skilled tank and rip up the battlefield, tankers I know myself included are sick of running tanks every battle just to counter all the militia junk running around able to swot dropships from the sky and blast protosuits to pieces for next to nothing.
Buff swarms, forge don't need any buff they are fine and cause dropships and tanks that don't run away quick enough no end of trouble, nerf militia tanks base HP and PG/CPU, reduce the effectiveness of blasters against infantry but increase its effectiveness against vehicles. |

Now I have been in DUST since the Merc Pack allowed closed beta access and i haven't ever been a dedicated tanker, so my opinion on matters of tank balance probably means squat to most, but tanks right now are absolutely ridiculous. Cheap, incredibly effective in all areas, and only really threatened by another tank. I don't know about you but I don't think tanks should be the best counter to EVERYTHING including themselves, it isn't really fair.
While it sounds interesting, I don't like the whole "Waves of oppertunity" CCP was trying to achieve but hey, tough **** right? I have no say on that matter and will adapt to it regardless. What we have now however isn't anything resembling "Waves of opportunity" in fact nearly the opposite. An example of how unbalanced things are right now would be a match I had today in fact.
I shotgunned a tanker in the back who I happened to come across as he was recalling his tank (Loving those HK4Ms :D) and preceded to steal and roll around in his Soma. I have very low experiance in tanks, have 0 sp in the skill tree, and honestly wasn't even trying to survive in this POS. I rolled into B and noticed REs on the ground, shot them, and continued. Suddenly a WSL wielding proto Amarr logi jumped out and let loose on me. I went to turn on hardeners and found this tank didn't have ANY active modules equipped. To my surprise however I out repped his damage, killed him, and rolled away only to be at full health in less then twenty seconds.
After laughing at how silly that little encounter was I returned to B and began to open fire on any poor red dot who wasn't already cowering in a building. Yet again the WSL returned; however this time he had the help of a scout with REs.The scout hit me with three REs as I sat still (on purpose) trying to kill him which brought me to 300 or so armor; which the WSL then easily finished off.. (This is how I knew it was a WSL) If I was a skilled tanker or had any experiance or SP in tanks that situation wouldn't have happened; I basically HANDED them the kill and it still took a proto swarm and REs to kill me in a tank I stole! Not to mention I didn't even have any hardeners which this whole balancing issue is supposed to be built around.
Onto the matter of a solution: I have no idea how to fix this outright, however we need to be careful or we risk making things even more imbalanced in either the opposite direction, back to what it was pre 1.7, or even more in tanks favor. We need to do one thing at a time until we achieve near balance; then use little tweaks here and there to finish the job. I don't want tanks to be underpowered deathtraps nor do I want tanks to rule the battlefield; I just want them to be a playable role while remaining fun to be in and fun to try and kill.
In my opinion start with an AV buff; then try the other options one at a time. If balance is still not achieved with all four options exhausted try combining two at a time. If things are still imbalanced after that then maybe this "Waves of oppertunity" idea needs to be rethought, or just dumped all together as a last resort.

AV is fine. i've gotten taken out by AV just for hanging around too long.
The problem is specific GÇö blaster tanks in ambush. Nothing else but that needs fixing for AV vs Tanks. Rail turret needs fixing for tank vs tank.
Drop that blaster RoF or restrict tanks from ambush and done.
Tanks don't win skirmish and my missile gunny or maddy hasn't really griefed infantry in any significant way.
I'm sick of ppl complaining about AV and tanks when what they are talking about is a specific criteria.

I'd like to see the AV weapons un-nerfed, and perhaps the plasma cannon fixed (it's never been good, but if you think about it it SHOULD fill a valuable niche as a valid anti SHIELD AV weapon available to medium and light frames)
as mentioned in the OP, CCP seems to have taken everything every tanker wanted, and implemented them all at once. lets walk back ONE of those changes and take it from there. |
