I'd imagine the whole game will have to be rewritten for PS4. It's not a matter of making a few minor adjustments. CELL =/= x86. In an ideal world CCP will have been devloping the two side by side somewhat so that they don't have to start from scratch but who da duck knows.

This game will never be seen on a PS4. Just my opinion. Nor should this LOL Lobby shooter ever be seen on a PS4, unless it goes through some major changes.

The game is developed on PC, and ported to the PS3's Cell.
That's why it runs like ass. What we're actually playing it on is the system it ISN'T meant to be on.
The PS4 is closer in architecture to a PC, and even without the massive boost in power it would run far better on it. |

Not necessarily true. If Dust was on PS4 now, it would have a lot more competition. Half of all PS4 owners bought Killzone because it is their big brand name shooter with a lot of marketing push, Dust being available on PS4 would not of changed it.
Also because the Dust NPE (New Player Experience) is still really poor right now, I'd wager all we would of seen is a high peak player count early on and then most people moving on and never willing to give Dust another chance. I say it's best CCP waits for the key moment to bring Dust 514 to the PS4.

Half of all PS4 owners bought Killzone because its a console exclusive shooter not available anywhere else, and because its one of the only available games on the PS4.
Fewer games = less competition among the consumer base, not more. I didn't buy killzone because of its annoying marketing push. I bought it because it was just about the only damn thing there was to buy.

I believe the scenario you have just described is the exact one we find ourselves in on the current PS3 platform, the only difference is that more people would be buying PS4's in the future and its player base will continue grow, whereas the PS3's are becoming obsolete and its playerbase is continuing to decrease.

I believe it was hinted that the Newcastle studio was supposed to be working on the PS4 client, but they got reassigned to Valkyrie.
Gonna be funny when they find out that there is almost no playerbase for the Rift. |

Killzone is a popular brand that has always sold well (and has never been a launch title before and still sold well) and had a huge marketing push for the PS4 version. I'm not saying all purchases were made because of this, but a lot were. You can't just assume because Dust would also be a PlayStation exclusive that it would of had the same success.

I've played every iteration of killzone and yes, I can indeed assume that. Sony has never had its own Halo, and Killzone has always tried to hype itself up as the Halo Killer. People don't buy the game because its good. They buy the game because why the hell not. It's not like they have anything better to play. |

Absolutely Dust finds itself in the same situation, but the thing is moving to PS4 is a great opportunity to get people to try your product again. If Dust was already on PS4 and in this situation, they wouldn't have an opportunity nearly as great to get people to try their game again once they got it further along.

The new player experience that Dust boasted at 1.0 would have driven PS4 players away. Hell, the new player experience in 1.7 is only marginally better than 1.0. Dust will need functional PvE and something resembling proper matchmaking before it will retain new players with any level of consistency... and that is probably 6+ months away. Imagine bringing Dust to PS4 with such a godawful new player experience.
Also, a lot of adult gamers (the kind with full-time jobs, kids, and social lives) don't buy the newest gen consoles when they first come out anyway. Personally, I'm not buying a PS4 any sooner than a year after it's launch. Eve Online and DUST both seem to aim at this audience more than the 15 - 20 year old demographic most FPS's are targeted at.

Never said Killzone was a Halo killer, don't believe Sony ever tried to sell it as that, I believe that was some magazine statement awhile ago that got a lot of publicity. Killzone games typically release in the middle or late generation and still sell very well even with lots of competition present. Regardless of what you may think of the quality of the franchise, the success of Killzone Shadow Fall was a lot more than simply being a launch title. Sure that helped, but it wasn't the only reason.

CCP in their infinite wisdom believe they wil get a re-review on the PS4 and it will wash away the abominable scores they got on the PS3.

Gonna be funny when they find out that there is almost no playerbase for the Rift and CCP has made yet another blunder in the name of Jesus Features. I believe CCP started work on Valkyrie not because there was a big player base for Rift but because they simply thought it would be an awesome experience. Plus it won't require Rift to play. That's what cool about CCP opposed to other game companies, they aren't as interested in hitting the biggest market possible and are instead interested in creating game that they think are cool. Just look at how they have refused to try and dumb down EVE for a wider market, or heck look at how they handle themselves at Fan Fest. CCP is perhaps the best example of a game studio making games for gamers by gamers.

No, CCP is a good example of what happens when you have a schizophrenic managerial staff that can't decide what the hell they should be working on, and a bunch of programmers that constantly make excuses about what to develop next because "That seems complicated, lets put it on the backburner forever even though we just advertised it at fanfest". |

You're being misled. Let's not get so fixated on a headline.
"Almost half of PS4 owners also bought Killzone 4" could also be read as "Less than half of PS4 owners chose to buy Killzone 4". How many
Without asking Google, how many PS4 exclusive launch titles can you name? What exactly is competing with KZ on the PS4? And KZ4 was purchased by less than half of PS4 owners. That doesn't sound like a massive success to me.

If my fixation was on the latest and greatest, I wouldn't be on my PS3 in the first place. I have a gaming PC which far outranks even my PS4.
What I'm into is a gaming experience that has an active playerbase and doesn't look and run like ass. Dust has a small playerbase, and both looks and runs like ass. The PS4 simply happens to be able to fix all of those problems.
Until this game can hit a 30 FPS consistent minimum it isn't even a legitimate competitive game.
And it doesn't matter how many PS3's have been sold across the world. Many of them are collecting dust, many of them are broken, many of them are owned by the same people, and all of them have access to a much bigger library than the PS4.
It doesn't matter how you do the math, there are going to be fewer people interested in Dust on the PS3 than on the PS4 simply by virtue of the size of the competitive library. |
