Really? Another one of these? So like True Adamance said, the Commando will be seeing some serious improvements in 1.8. But regardless, this idea makes no sense. So the obvious question: does this also mean that a light weapon slot can't be filled with a sidearm? Because that would be the only logical conclusion. And if people are only using the Commando as an Assault suit with more health, they're honestly doing it wrong. It's designed with a second-line suppression role, and it's new bonuses should help cement that even more.

Vespasian Andendare wrote:An easy "fix" to the wrong-class weapon "problem" may be just to buff suits when using their appropriate weapon class. Assault suits get a bonus to light weapon damage--say, 15-20%, but light weapon damages are nerfed 15-20% across the board. So, when using an assault suit, you put out full damage, but when using Logi or Heavy suit, you put out reduced damage (to emphasize the intended role of the suit). But in no case should creativity be limited arbitrarily. If that happens, Dust will be just like every other shooter out there. This seems to be the approach CCP is going for with 1.8. Logis will be the best with equipment, with Racial Logis being the best with a specific kind of equipment, respectively. It looks like they're trying to encourage more role-definition and specialization.

Until there are more heavy weapons things should stay as is
The problem with doing what you propose is that it totally gimps sentinals and basics at mid/long range.... If there was a heavy mid range anti infantry weapon then I would be all for it Maybe the suit with highest total ehp available is not meant to xecel at EVERY range and EVERY situtaion. But those who think the only way to play dust is by stacking as much ehp as possible will surely goe for heavies... I guess noone could complain If all suits could use heavy weapons. Currently the Heavy/sentinal is the ONLY suits with exclusive gear (and a very powerfull as well). And thiy excusive gear makes NO sense. If dust was abou excusive gear why can any suit use Assaultrifles or cloaks? Not every suit can use Cloaks. Sentinels can't.
I think you misunderstand how the weapon slots work. You're able to fit a smaller capacity weapon in a higher capacity slot, because it' well.....smaller. Makes sense to me.
I think you might also misunderstand how the suits are designed. The ability to wield heavy weapons is one of the advantages a Sentinel has over other suits, while having drastically less slots (including no Equipment) is a disadvantage. I'm also betting the Pilot suit (if we ever do happen to get that thing) will only be able to wield a Sidearm as well. If you have an issue with certain suit-to-suit balance, that's another discussion. But completely altering a mechanic of the game because you don't like Heavies with Light Weapons is pretty silly to me.
