Us Dropship pilots have been backstabbed by CCP since the beginning of Chromosome. I mean, you can tell who the real pilots were when all there was to fly were Vipers, Myrons, and Eryx's for Caldari. All we could do was fly around blueberries who half the time would sit on a turret (since you couldn't remove them) and fire them at the enemy MCC literally the whole match.
Not to mention that pilots got literally NO points for transporting anyone, which was practically their only role unless you found a competent gunner (which was rare).
But this was still before railtanks got their true popularity, and afterburners were pretty much god-like.
Tankers are being diagnosed with a new disease; Cancer of the Assault Dropship.
Many of them don't survive.

Been here since November 2012 - closed beta vet. Wow.
I hate this game. I am also addicted.
It feels uncomfortable to play. It doesn't feel polished. But my stats obsessed, slightly autistic male brain loves the modules, equipment, weapons. The constantly adjustable dropsuits and the numbers that go with everything.
I dig the universe of New Eden. The lore is cool. The artistic and aesthetic design of the game is also amazing in parts; even though the graphics don't always let it shine. The potential, the potential, the potential.
This game has given me OCD for a skill tree. I want all the SP. All of it.

Been here since E3 2012. Fought through E3 build, Precursor, Codex, Chromosome and Uprising 1.0-7. I don't give a **** about the short comings of the game because I have my expectations in check and just like playing, watching the game evolve and engaging the community and the devs and I know that in time it will just get better and better. For someone who is already more than content with the current state of the game (imbalances and bugs aside), that's good news.
Like many here, I strongly believe in the vision of CCP. As a visionary type myself I can appreciate the many pioneering steps that they're taking with the tech, the programming and the game design that comes together to create the industries first cross genre, cross platform space FPS.
I also stay because over time the lore of New Eden sucks me in more, I think it's a ******* fantastic IP and I can#t wait to see all the different avenues of engagement and access that CCP is developing. EVE, DUST and Valkyrie are already solid steps on top of CCP's movement towards putting the lore and the stories of the past decade into comics and a series.

I remember when I first started playing Dust. I hopped in a squad with Sgt Kirk and "gunned" in his tank for a bit. I was just along for the ride while he murdered everybody!
PRO was pretty fun back then. It all went downhill when CBJ got it into his head that 10,000 members would be the way to domination.

Maybe it's the backstabbing, or the accounting, or the matchmaking...I like it. I especially love the forums BC of all the trolls. We're here because there is a whole universe for the taking. CCP is obviously getting their kittenpoop together and sooner or later they're gonna let the dogs out(i.e. us).
Then we can crush the bejeweld thrones of the Nullsec alliances beneath our booted feet.
The bonus cookie is that if you are the console FPSer who happens to be one of history's great generals & can take down the Mittani's empire you will get your Wall Street Journal/Forbes/The Economist/New York Times/The Guardian etc. moment of fame. Not bad for a console shooter.

Old closed beta vet here.
I play very casually (I don't have time for more with 2 kids and full time work), but when I DO play... I find myself playing Dust. I guess what drew me in was the universe of New Eden, since I had previously played EVE but had to stop since it took away too much RL. With Dust I can still be part this fantastic universe, but in shorter (and more controlled) doses ;-)
I will be here until TQ closes shop.
Ps: Also, as a professional software tester since 12 years, I can fully sympathize (and recognize) the massive amount of work and dedication the Dust team have given this game during this last year. So I just want to say, kudos on a job well done! I am looking forward to 2014.

A mixture of it being free, not having much else that excites me, and the occasional good squads I'm part of. Don't get me wrong, the game is plenty messed up, but I play scout, and it makes it hard to notice some of the minor quibbles when you vaporize under a stern reprimand from a heavy or medium suit.

I'm here because the game is not some streamlined, flashy, shallow FPS for the masses.
I'm here because New Eden is my second home. I may have moved from flying starships to flying dropships but my story still takes place in a familiar place. Eventually, all my characters will have a stronger connection.
I'm here because many of the developers are part of the community. Its like a family where we complain, fight, plead, threaten and still stick together because this is ours. Mother may take away our toys or make us take our medicine but we soldier on because it makes us stronger.
I'm here because the game is still evolving. Each release causes subtle, and not so subtle, ripples through the tactics and feel of the game. Mercenaries have to adapt or die.
I'm here because of commitment, hard fought loss, more horridly expensive loss and then well earned victory.

Still here primarily since this, like Eve, is a good game worth committing time to for the sake of some good entertainment.
And unlike other POS franchises that release sequels that make a game sadly obsolete, I am hoping Dust, like Eve, will be a game that will endure for years to come. Call of Duty, Modern Warfare, Halo.... uuugghh, hate the idea of sequels that make games obsolete.
Plus here's to hoping the game will continue to improve. |

I stayed because I just like the game, and I like how it'll constantly be getting better.
I think a big part of me staying here is that I keep mixing things up; if all I ever did was run the same fits (slightly modified every build to meet the FOTM), I would probably quit too.

My corp is what kept me, I randomly jumped in a squad with my CEO. I told him how I was ready to quit because of the fact there were only recycled player corps at the time and making my own probably wouldn't happen.
He offered me directorship of swamp, he explained that he been in eve for 10-12 years (can't remember precisely) and that I can do what I want with swamp, there were about 12 members in it at the time, all noobs. I trained them and watched them grow into decent players and now we have joined an alliance and are ready for pc, luckily we behave 3 beta vets as well that joined a bit later on, they helped a lot as well.
CEO is on a break though, tempo is a temporary corp until he gets back.
My advice to other beta vets who are bored is to stop playing with people who only care about their stats, some are very subtle about it, but you'll know.
Stop giving a fk so much, its a game, you win some and you lose some.
Stop giving a fk about your 'image' in a game. I see many people caring about that trash far too much, I was 17 once.
Stop corp hopping like some desperate crack ***** or joining flavour of the month corps, that can't be fun and you have no foresight in doing so, clearly.
The game is what you make it but hurry the fk up ccp seriously lol.

Still here cause of the yet-unrealized potential, and because of other mercs I enjoy playing with. The depth and difficultly of Dust tends to screen out immature players, and I like that, and so I stick around despite it's flaws.
I liken Dust to golf -- it's an infuriating game, for the most part, but the moments of brilliant play make all the crap worthwhile.

I've been here way before chromosome. I believe the build name was Codex? I've been here since mid-codex. Female character models didn't exist and it was still all caldari suits and most forum avatars didn't exist. I was actually Amarrian at first then I went Gallente. Countless suns and moons passed and I'm still here and kicking. This game has a certain "pull" to it that I hadn't felt since playing ME1. It's addicting. |

Not bitter but I feel guilty about getting people to spend time/money on Dust and the game still being in an unfinished state a year later. That's not cool.
V-C is a small community of guys but I "sold" guys on Dust and they spent real money because I vouched for this product and we still don't have the beginning foundation of Dropsuits, Vehicles and Weapons.
We still have ONE game mode and a variation of that. I tell guys to do what I do.....rather than get frustrated, save your money, take extended breaks since the SP is passive. Check back periodically for progress. Still, i don't want to be saying the same thing next Christmas.
Replication Veteran: On hiatus until we have 10 game modes, jets, all racial suits/wpns and EVE has a reason to care.

I guess if it wasn't for PRO, I wouldn't have even known much of anything about Dust. The only reason I was in MPT was because of PRO's move from MAG to Dust.
The only reason I'm still here is because I've invested way too much in this thing to just drop it and move on. Ever since the Trials I've seen this as an investment, I've put in time and money, and it's been far too much to just cut my losses. I'm here till the end, only time will tell whether that means I'll be here to see it flourish or I will crash and burn with it.
That, and I can't go abandoning my corp and the people that have made it this far with me. Although a few actually make me question why I still put up with it *cough*AJisn'tthatgreatandispracticallyabackgroundcharacter*cough*, oh sorry, must be coming down with something.

Its a pitty when that lore gets in the way of game play, IE amar with up link bonuses and minmatar with RT. |

I am still here because for some stupid reason I feel like this game will eventually be great. I am stuck hoping and waiting for the day when there are much larger maps, proper balance, and other things we all know severely affect the fun we have in this game at times. The sad thing is I really only play now for the SP to be able to remain competitive when such a time exists when I feel this game is amazing.

Unfortunately my main cannot post on the forums at this time but I started over a year ago. I think at the end of December 2012 or the very start of January 2013. So yes just over a year.
"Ups and downs" is the best way I can describe this game. As much as I have loved a lot of the cool new stuff, levels, features and weapons - I still miss the core gameplay of chromosome. It just felt more fluid and more engaging. People actually had to fight intense battles, sometimes one on ones could last a good few minutes. Now 99% of the time the engagement is over in seconds or split seconds.
Is this because of AA? Is it because of changes to the core shooting mechanics? I am not sure. But still I enjoy the game and I do generally have fun. I just hope that sometime this year the game will really start to take shape. |

Just remembered something that I don't think I've heard mentioned in a really long time. Probably the one comms glitch that was actually funny and interesting and not a huge pain in the ass.
RandomPlayer1 - "Come on people we're gonna lose of we don't take some more letters" RandomPlayer2 - "What do you mean? We already have a huge lead" RP1 - "Wait, what? We're way behind" RP2 - "No, I'm pretty sure we're ahead, unless..." RP1 - "What the kitten, we're on opposite teams!"
That was hilarious, if it happened, you could either keep quiet and get intel or trash talk all the people you were killing. Sometimes, you'd be telling teammates where you were and a red dot would suddenly come out of nowhere, like he knew you were there. |

Squading with randoms sucks, solo is no better, and I'm rocking my starter corp because I got tired of paying taxes to a corporation that 1: Doesn't run PC & 2: All corp mail was either players whining about taxes or corp officers telling members to suck it up or leave. |

I decided that I will be with dust for the long run. Due to the fact that this is a shooter where you will be able to impact new eden. It is far from it now, but CCP will pull it off some time in the future. By that time, I will have huge amount of SP, while the bandwagon jumping players will have 500k. Its gonna be delicious tears. |

Who remembers the bug where people would die from jumping off of a small mound or hill? That was annoying as hell |

I suddenly feel depressed after watching that.
I'm here simply because other games don't cut it anymore. I was hardcore into Battlefield but I haven't touched it since I got the $20 merc pack that got me into the Dust closed beta.
I did take an extended break from the game for a couple months. The frustration with every build since Uprising dropped had simply burned me out. Bugs, terrible PC performance, wonky mouse controls that CCP doesn't seem to want to fix (being able to aim is important, isn't it? )
Of course, I came back. To the same shite. I still see potential and have hope that CCP will keep fixing (and probably breaking) their game until they get it right.

We all know why we are still here, we're all masochists.
Also sp's are addictive.
If you are reading this then you are on the forums, leave immediately to retain your enjoyment of Dust 514.

The potential. Eve Online is a unique game and the possibilities with DUST are just amazing.
That being said, so far... not so much.
