If you are unhappy with the current Tank 514 please put a +1 in your reply. Maybe if CCP can see how many people they are p*ss#ng off, they might change something. I can't play this game like it is til mid Feb/March or whenever the next update is coming, something needs to change! |

tank spam has been added to the list of ridiculous additions to this game. Cap for number of tanks on the field should be reduced.

I can handle one tank quite well. But not three at the same time plus infantry trying to shoot me plus annoying dropships.
Furthermore, the Shield or Armor hardening module stacking on tanks is ridiculous. It's even more ridiculous to almost finish a tank just for it to roll at superspeed (afterburner) behind cover, wait a few seconds and come back with almost full health...WTF?
At least it makes destroying tanks much more satisfying than before. So keep on coming ;)

+1 When CCP attempts to fix the game balance then ill likely come back to playing hours a night. Till then i may get a couple games in a night, just to see if my feelings change.

I played a Domination match last night and for about half the match it was infantry only and it was awesome, both sides giving it absolutely evrything, and the clones were going down almost 1 for 1, BUT after the enemy brought in three tanks and about four of us changed to AV it just went to cr@p. AV ineffectual against tanks and we just got mowed down again and again by enemy infantry. It turned a game that i felt was great fun into a pile of cr@p. This really has to change !! |

Meh, don't really see them all that much, and when I do, it usually isn't that much of a problem avoiding them. I was working together with a tank driver, from my corp, earlyer today. I was running a std plasma cannon and std AV grenades in a scout suit, and him and I took out about nine or ten tanks in a skirmish, and he was the only tanker on our side. It was fun. *shrugs*
I've had moderate success with this fit solo as well. I think AV grenades are just about perfect against a tank now (they used to be way OP). The plasma cannon feels a little UP but I only have Lv 1 skills so that really remains to be seen.
The only real problem I have is the shield/Caldari assault dropship. There is no real viable infantry counter to this monster. Swarms are pretty worthless against it. Hitting a dropship with a plasma cannon is damned near imposible, and by the time you charge a second forge round the dropship is nowhere to be found. Had an ADS camping the hack station on the Alfa on the bridge map earlyer today (the "D" "E" "A" outside city map - can't remember the name, and there was just absolutly nothing I could do to get ride of that damned ADS. This was very frustrating.

The tank spam in my oppinion is not the problem. Issue is the balance between AV and tanks. And the balance between the different AR rifles that is just way off, I will never understand why players complaining about OP duvolles in previous builds accept the stronger ARs released. Lots of tanks can be fun, if they were easy to destroy considered their price tag, should be comparable to a dropsuit of similar price. Imagine if they in EVE online makes a cheap T1 Cruiser, that will be cheaper than frigates to produce and in the same time be indesctructable. That could be fun
Wearing the tinfoil hat I could get the idea it was on purpose from CCP, to make a new FOTM which makes players to abandon previous FOTM, spend isk and aur to be kings of the new FOTM, only to have it changed 2-3 months later and go chasing the next FOTM. A rather good business model if they could keep it less obvious. In current build it is tanks, rail and combat rifles. And I refuse to skill into any of these three. |

Even though I've resorted to using a 2x damage modded rail sica on certain maps; it's just so much easier to take out tanks that way and those pesky gnats too.
CCP: Is it the most asinine way possible to do this? Yes. Then that's how we're doing it.

I usually see a thread like this and just keep moving; however for the past two weeks I've been training friends of mine to play and I've had to pay more attention so I can give them advice on how to improve. Now I don't know how many of you train newbies, either ones that are your friends or people you just met, but it is extremely painful right now for newbies even more so then usual.
I usually tend to only get frustrated at DUST when I lag excessively, experience a game breaking glitch, or have immense amounts of bs death I.E. Spawning in and dying immediately, the entire enemy team using the same OP weapon, or getting sniped and not being able to get revenge or counter snipe because the enemy is in an unreachable location and/or head-glitching. (I don't mind being sniped; in fact in most games I myself prefer to snipe, however DUST sniping offers me no challenge nor a thrill when i kill or am killed, so I don't do it.)
Onto the point, now that I have been training newbies I'm forced to pay attention and notice when my team is getting stomped by full teams of proto, tanks, when our blue dots are inept, and when Scotty gives my three-four man squad of myself and three complete newberries the finger, putting us against two experienced squads who proceed to welcome my friends too New Eden. I usually do fine when I'm not going AV to try and scare a tank off for a couple seconds so my newbies can get in some practice, but I watch them getting trashed and there isn't much I can do about it.
I've been here since closed beta; I have had my share of beatings in New Eden and come out stronger and more prepared. The difference between my situation and my newbies is I had the chance to fight back, learn from watching more skilled players, and the opportunity to evolve with DUST as it grew. There were no unwinnable battles for me before 1.7 outside of PC and if I lost I took it as a lesson and worked to improve; however this update has thrown that completely out the window and now i find myself in one-sided battles that seem to be happening more often each day. To be honest it is more the fault of matchmaking then anything else but our current version of tanks isn't helping any. I myself wanted tanks to get a buff, they were in a bad place and needed help just like alot of things in DUST, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind nor is it any better then how unbalanced it was pre 1.7, it is just in the opposite direction.
To make a long story short tanks are making my newbies cry and I am running out of CONCORD approved tissues and once those are gone I fear my friends will not stay too enjoy DUST for very long.

The problem is those Militia HAV Pilots and their Rail Guns, redline or no redline, they're too effective for their cost. Just ONCE I'd like to cruise around in my Missile Gunnlogi without being asploded from an enemy Rail Gun from god knows where. If they manage to sneak up behind me, that's fair. But even in a CQC situation, my missiles are no match to their shield hardeners coupled with their insane damage output. A MLT Rail Gun and HAV should not be able to withstand my Damage Modified XT-201 Missile barrage. This also brings up the fact that Missiles need their reload system changed, individual-missile reload please. I shouldn't have to wait five years to reload all 12 missiles when only a couple are needed to finish off the target, meanwhile they have their way with me while I reload. Also, why the hell do Missiles have a damage drop off? Maybe the efficiency % is lying to me but I don't think distance traveled is going to effect the explosive potency of a missile.
It always comes down to me having to use a triple Damage Modified Rail Gun Gunnlogi to take out enemy Rail Guns from a mile away. I hate fighting Rail Guns, I hate having to use Rail Guns. They NEED to be changed.

I actually think the problem isn't with individual tanks vs AV, but with tank spam vs AV. I'm cool with it taking 2 or 3 AV infantry to counter a tank, but when you have 3 or 4 red tanks on the field you can't give up that many people. The root of the problem is how cheap the hulls are; people can afford to lose them.
Double the price of an HAV hull (leave weapons/modules alone, they are properly expensive) and people can still afford to bring them into pub matches, but not in the same numbers as they do now. The number of HAVs called in becomes manageable for a small group of dedicated AV infantry, and we have a much more balanced game.
Some people say that it should take a tank to counter a tank. These people are wrong, end of story. A tank can be the best counter to another tank, but it shouldn't be the only option.
*note - this does not apply to dropships. Swarms no longer have the range (and never had the speed) to be a good counter to any dropship with a pilot paying the least amount of attention, and forge guns are not a reliable weapon against such fast moving targets. That is a much more complicated issue than HAV spam. |

I agree with this 100%, Swarms are ineffectual against dropships . I have Wyrkomi swarm and applicable skills and really battle to take out dropships even with other AV guys , the theory of being able to "chase them off" doesn't work either as they repair so fast that you get maybe half a minute respite before they are back again.

Amen. I have gone madrugar with missiles or rail because why not? The madrugar is better with the Caldari weapons than the Caldari tank? I can run basic armor mods and come up with the better advantage every time.
The HAV skill is for all tanks so you get the madrugar free with purchase. The damage mods go on the high slots so you get the defensive mods. The rail and missiles fit just fine on the madrugar. Rails do less damage to armor.
I'm sick of infantry complaining about tanks when it really is only the armor tanks that pose a problem and even then only the blaster is a problem for infantry.
A shield tank with missiles has become laughable.
If this doesn't change I might actually grow tired enough to leave this game.

For me...it's a pain but I'm not unhappy with things. I can appreciate the ups and down of the game's development because I know it's something that will change, and soon, so you deal with it the best you can. It's a challenge, yeah, but I have a lot of fun with tanks. Whether I'm the hunter with my REs, testing the wits and/or awareness of the driver or being a ghost and stealthing my way around the rolling death machines, it's something to adapt to, experience and eventually move on from. 1.8 will surely bring the adjustments we need and everyone will be euphoric from the complete overhaul of suits and variations and weapons and stealth and the good times will roll so just knuckle down, kill as many of the bastards as you can and wait for the nxt evolution of the game in a few week.s

Average/Pro tankers are fine IMO. They skilled into tanks and it's their specialty, so they earned the skill and rights to use those tanks. Basically the equivalent of someone skilling into a certain weapon they fancy.
Scrub tankers on the other hand (you know, the idiots who die countless times then proceed to camp in their tanks afterwards, driving like a drunkard) shouldn't even exist in this game. I'm not even kidding. It's ridiculous.
