This is nothing more than a spammy, like farming thread.
People will have a chance to endorse specific candidates before they can get on the ballot in the first place, so this thread is mostly moot anyways.

It's an early poll, I'm dubious how effective it will be, not many people are voting on it, and I think using a poll website or Google Form would be more effective, but he's got 0 Like alts posting all the character names. I would hardly call it a like farming thread.

I have earned my likes the hard way, though 12 months of hard work on improving the New Player Experience. Anyone who has ever wandered into the Rookie Training Grounds forum will know where my Likes came from.
If I was goring to GÇ£Like farmGÇ¥ I would do it on my main, rather than a bunch of no skill, zero like alts, which I already said I would Biomass after the election.
This is as close to a poll as you can get with the limited functionality of this forum. It also allows people to remove their likes if they change their minds so it maintains a continuous tally as the campaign proceeds.
I am trying to get people interested and involved in this election, because it is important to the future of DUST and I want people to take it seriously. I want people to put some real thought into who they vote for. I want them to consider the candidateGÇÖs capabilities, rather than just voting based on who makes the funniest Troll posts. The post for each candidate includes a link to their platform and discussion threads. I will add information as we go.
The poll is to show which candidates people take seriously. It shows someone looking into this Election thing for the first time which Candidate Platforms to read first. As I look at the poll now, the voting seems to reflect a legitimate assessment of the candidate abilities. The strongest candidates are already getting the most votes.
The poll also gives people an opportunity to show their support in a central location where all the candidates can be compared.
I was planning on devoting considerable time and effort into covering this election to insure we get a large voter turnout and that people have the information they need to make an informed and intelligent decision at the ballot box. But if I am going to get beat down by members of CPM0, then that takes a lot of wind out of my sails. I really hope that you will reassess your sinical impression of what I am trying to do here, and I hope that the rest of CPM0 takes a more charitable view of my efforts than you have expressed here.

If you are doing coverage on the election what about a "would like to see run" section. That way people like me who don't really use the forums (only here as Dust Uni channel mentioned it) can tell the wheat from the chaff? I mean I can't tell who is really a good runner or not. I mean some of the posts are pretty lame but maybe the runner is actually better than it seems from their post?
They are all just names to me making promises. Anyone who might run but isn't yet we should watch out for? Or maybe if a low vote count runner is actually better than a high count runner (friends buffing numbers etc to distort it).
thankey thanks.

Deep, promises are promises, ideas are ideas. Don't be afraid to ask a candidate what they've actually done in their thread. Most of us will relish the chance to answer any questions. Mind you, once the election process ramps up, there will probably be more standardized questionnaires to compare/contrast with.
This is all VERY early yet, so do not fear, there will be a lot of extra resources at your disposal to narrow down a candidate you feel can best represent you and the community at large by the time you can actually vote.
As a note on "vote count", since you're not the first person to mention it, I haven't asked anyone to vote for me in this thread. I am certain my number probably includes a few alliance mates or friends, because some of my alliance are prolific forum readers in their own right. But I'm as curious where things currently stand as well as anyone else, so I wouldn't want to distort Fox Gaden's results by pushing friends t ovote.

I am always interested in ideas about how to help undecided voters, particularly people who donGÇÖt normally browse the forums, quickly and easily access the information they need to make an informed decision.
In this thread I am providing links to candidate information and to the threads in which they lay out their election platform and answer questions. It is often hard to get a true assessment by reading their initial post, but if you look for posts where they are answering questions posed by other players, you will get a much better sense of the scope of their ideas and their understanding of the development challenges of the game.
Asking about what tangible contributions they have made in the past is a very good line of questioning, and can give them an opportunity to show their commitment to the game and to serving the DUST community.
I am aware of the potential for manipulating the pole results, but it does not appear to be a problem yet. Besides, such manipulation could easily backfire by stimulating opposition to someone perceived as less qualified who suddenly seems to be a threat, where they otherwise may have slipped in under the radar.
So far I have chosen to remain somewhat neutral. Not completely neutral mind you, as there are some candidates that I have more confidence in than others after reading their election material and looking into their backgrounds, but I try to give every candidate a fair shake. I am trying to facilitate each candidateGÇÖs efforts to present themselves.
If people want to create commentary threads with a separate post for each candidate, analysing their experience and giving an informed opinion on their qualifications for the position, I would consider including links to the commentary posts in each candidateGÇÖs section. This could help people consider the candidates from another informed perspective. I would have to be satisfied that the commentator was giving each candidate a fair shake without showing too much bias though before I would add links to their commentaries however.

I am trying to centralize access to Election 2014 information. If you run across anything that you think is important or relevant, it would be very helpful if you post a link to it here. If I agree, then I will include it in the appropriate place in my coverage.
Same goes for contact information and other relevant information that I should be posting. Post it in one of my threads to bring it to my attention, and I will copy it to the appropriate place.

Someone said in D Uni that we get 7 representative (or was it 6) Is this likely to be the full list? Seems a bit of a small pool? Is anyone else likely to run? Four of those guys don't even seem to be trying. If this is the best we can do maybe It should be delayed. " of the more voted runners even were in favor of sponsorship from an external gamer site with perks thrown in.. WTH is that! I only just managed to pass my college course on politics and even I know that you don't take 'gifts' no matter how non bias the giver says he is and how he won't be asking for preferential treatment.
Supporting that type of project just shows a clear lack of judgement and actually changed my mind as to who i thought I'd vote for. |

Deep Shallowness, I know for a fact there are interested parties who don't intend to announce until CCP announces the official details of the election. So you can certainly expect more people to run. And of course, once the official announcement is made, a lot more people will be taking note on these people and what's going on.
The number of representatives haven't been announced, but I believe CCP originally wanted 7 in CPM0, but only got 6, and 7 is exactly half the CSM. So it's not a bad guess that that's the number of CPM that will be elected, but we really don't know at this juncture.
On the sponsorship thing, I specifically posted that I was not in support of taking any sponsorship. If someone decides they want to give me crud, I'm going to give it away to the community, not keep it for myself.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

EDIT : My FIrst forum like for this! I am on my way boys! I think we can safely assume that more will run. I can think of at least one other person who I expect to run, who has not announced his candidacy here yet.
All of this is based on CCP saying that they plan to hold the election before Fan Fest. The election has not yet been officially launched with blogs and a dedicated sub forum. I expect many people are waiting for the official start to the election before announcing their candidacy.
The quality of the candidates who have announced so far does vary. There are definitely a few who have not put enough effort into this yet to be taken seriously.
As to the Sponsorship post, I believe that both Soraya and Jackel said that they would give away any sponsorship rewards they were given. So I donGÇÖt know how you can take that as support for sponsorship.
Although I think the sponsorship proposal was well meaning, I agree that it is probably inappropriate. The communication support part is fine though. It is probably best to think of Xion Shad as representing a media outlet. So it would be like a politician being interviewed on the news or a talk show.

That's good to know....Give us a clue... Is he/she on the forum/you tube a blog?.. gasp an existing CPM?

I don't buy that for a second. Taking 'gifts' from en external or interested party even to then pass them on still has a candidate saying he will take payment, in AUR (real cash) no less for his position. These gifts are only passed to him due to his CPM status. Passing it on or not makes no difference. If you are CPM I will give you 'gifts'. This is candidates saying they will accept special treatment.
If a politician took $1000 from Big Oil then passed it to a charity what would the voting base think? If charity is the givers intention he should skip the middleman (CPM). No CPM member should expect or require anything to do the job. Election to the position is the reward.

If you were CPM, how would you prevent people from sending you a GAME code for an AUM pack in the in game mail?
In real life when someone in a position of responsibility receives and unsolicited envelop of money in the mail, they usually publically disclose having received it and give it to charity.

I would acknowledge I had received it and publicly return it. If return was not possible I would destroy it. If it was anonymous i would contact the police and hand it to them as the source is unknown. Could be drug money for all I know.
Also that's different. This is an open offer of gifts prior to an election. The correct response is "no thank you" |
