Also that's different. This is an open offer of gifts prior to an election. The correct response is "no thank you" Semantics.
They said they would "not keep" the rewards. You say they should "not take" the rewards. While I think you are right, there is not enough of a difference between those two positions to warrant painting those candidates in such a negative light.
This is starting to look like a deliberate attempt to discredit some of the front-running candidates. It looks like you are trying to artificially create a controversial issue so that when the candidate you support comes forward they will be able to respond in the GÇ£rightGÇ¥ manner and use this contrived controversy to separate themself from the other candidates.

It's a similar topic to journalism, where it's very taboo to receive gifts. In most cases, review units sent to them are intended to be returned, but in the case they aren't, public giveaways are quite common. You state who provided it, and ensure there's a fair and balanced system for giving it out.
I would certainly recommend Shad "skip the middleman" and give things directly to the community, I was merely commenting on what I would do if given a "sponsorship" of any kind. As I stated, I do NOT expect or require anything to do the job, and I don't want it.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

Nope. I just think it's cool that a game has real players being reps. And the election is an interesting thing to take part in. There isn't much going on with it as you said so I just looked at the recent, and pretty much only posts. When we vote here in the US we do look at everything the candidates say, and this seemed an interesting topic to me. I like impartial reps, and this to me as a warning. but that's just me. I guess others don;t see it that way.
I, personally, get more insight into people from this kind of topic than from the banal promises politicians make. Often the real person is in the side topics, not the campaign itself.
I never really used the forums until the CPM thing was mentioned to me. I like that stuff. the normal QQ is dull. Also you seem to be defending people, which is cool but are you running an impartial thread or not? |

I was impartial when I got here, but like everyone else I have been forming opinions based on what I read in the candidates posts. Just as after discussing this issue with you I now have a clearer idea as to the appropriate way for candidates to respond to sponsorship offers. That is, I basically agree with you that they should reject sponsorships if they are given that option.
I defended them because I felt you were being unduly hard on them, considering that your position and theirs did not appear to be too far apart. Of course I am Canadian and we do politics differently than you do in the US. It is a cultural thing.
I considered trying to remain completely neutral in covering the election, but finally decided that I could make a better contribution by providing informed analysis. My commentary thread will come out later in the week. In this thread I am trying to give all candidates equal treatment in the poll posts, by providing whatever contact information and supporting links that the candidate has made available.
I keep an open mind, so my opinion on each candidate's qualifications for the job will be subject to change based on how the election unfolds. I don't tend to become attached to my viewpoints.

See that's a cool response. You were able to admit that your view has been in some small way altered by what people say even if you think they are too aggressive or disagree with them. You admit that you will display some bias but at the same time do your best to honestly represent the candidates views and do a fair analysis. I can respect and trust in that.
A human wrote that reply.
Also i don't have some master plan, I am just trying to take part in my own small way. Us low SP players with no name or rep can dream of being CPM superstars but it'll never happen. So being active and taking part in the election is all I can hope for. I don't think tough questions or a bit of a poke is a bad thing. |

The electorate will likely learn as much from the two of us debating as they will from the candidateGÇÖs platforms. The job of commentators is to challenge peopleGÇÖs perspectives and make them look at things in a new way. It leads to a more informed decision at the ballot box.
As for low SP players with no name or rep.... there is always CPM2...

It's important that everyone participate. Not only by helping select the best candidates, but the total number of votes placed will help emphasize to CCP how important the CPM is. Every vote truly does count in this election.
As a side note, CPM is not superstardom. It's masochism. But if it's something that interests you, now or later, there's nothing stopping you from doing whatever you want in this game. It just takes time and dedication. It is entirely possible for a guy to be brand new to the game this week, and a minor community celebrity the next. Talk to people, do things. People will notice.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

It is important to note that Spartacus DustGÇÖs dramatic rise in the Poll was not accompanied by any increase in posted responses in his campaign thread, nor has there bean any apparent outpouring of support for him on The CouncilGÇÖs Chamber forum. While his campaign is certainly worthy of consideration, I would suggest taking this Poll result with a grain of salt.

I have decided to accept candidates as experts, in the Expert's Poll, because this is not just a vote for one position. Candidates will care deeply about who they have on the Council with them. Candidates should vote for themselves. Candidates still must have posted constructively in 4 other candidate threads to qualify. (Their own thread counts as the 5th.)

My poll increase, came after talking with people in our newly formed alliance, you'll notice we recently picked up Quebec United, and Latino Killer Corps, both corps of different nationalities and foreign languages, you said take it with a grain of salt, but I am also reaching out to the other nationalities, my candidacy doesn't only represent the English speaking population of Dust, as I had translators to help me unite different corps of different languages to come together, I have been talking with their leaders about the CPM. You can still take it with a grain of salt, I have no idea if they used alts, I do know after speaking with them they whole heartedly supported my goal of One Universe//One War.
Also I will have friends helping me tackle the language barriers, so we can reach out to the other aspects of the community.

I was not suggesting that you were doing anything wrong Spartacus. Most of the candidates have large groups of supporters. What is throwing the Poll off is that many of the supporters of the other candidates who have come to vote have also looked through the other candidate threads and voted for all the candidates they thought where good, while your supporters have just been voting for you and then leaving again.
I added the ExpertGÇÖs Poll to show results for a controlled group that has been considering all of the candidates' campaigns.
Ultimately it does not matter who gets the most votes since there will probably be around 6 winners, give or take. (We donGÇÖt know the size of the Council yet.)
Reaching out to different language groups is a good idea. Not only does it expand your support base, but it allows you to represent the needs of those other language groups.

(By the way I am open to having multi lingual people translate my guides and repost them on other language forums, as long as they post in my original guide to let me know they are doing it, and indicate in the translation that I was the original author, with a link back to the original document.)
I'll try and get someone to help on that last part :)
I think most people see the forums as kind of useless, when it's a great source for intel, recruiting, allies, knowledge on different play styles and more.
It's sad how few people use the forums.
